• You are a good person, son.

    True friends never die.

"May there always be work for your hands to do, may your purse always hold a coin or two. May the sun always shine on your windowpane, may a rainbow be certain to follow each rain. May the hand of a friend always be near you, may God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you."

    - Irish Blessing

God bless you and may your friend rest in peace :(

  • Evan, you're amazing.

My deep condolences for your lost friend, RIchie.

I'm just happy that he'd made such a big impact on your's and so many other's lives in the time he spent with you all.

It must've taken a lot of bravery to put this up, you already had my respect, but now you've got even more of it.

Have a blessed day, Mr. Magic.

  • It has been one year since you've been gone Richie. I still miss you. RIP Polarbeargod

  • This is probably the most beautiful youtube video I have ever seen. I never knew Richie, but it's clear you did and cared about him. It was really brave of you to post this video, Evan. PErsonally I cried throughout this video. Keep up the steam!

  • Last time I talked to Richie was a year ago today. Didn't know him that well but I still thought I'd come back and watch this video again. He was an amazing guy and always supportive of any art, good or bad. A true inspiration. He first inspired me to become an artist. I have a lot to thank him for. RIP

  • may he rest in peace

  • Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend.

  • I didn't know Richie but I can see how much of an impact he had with others in the Magic community. When someone passes that has that much love for the same thing we all love it affects us all. I didn't know him but I wish I did.

    RIP Richie

  • thank you evan erwin

    R.I.P richie

Even you are a gift to the comunity . PBG i dident know him vary well , other from what ive seen on the show , he seemed tallented in what he did , and like you he was and still is a tribute to the comunity, and for what i see i think we have lost a big part of our comunity with PBG.

    R.i.P

  • Richie was always there. He0s still there. Watching yoou. always

  • Though I never met Richie Proffit I had seen a lot of his artwork. I had always kept the idea of becoming a professional artist in the back of my head but now I have gotten inspired. Thank you Richie for igniting a passion in me and doing something that no one else could - getting off my ass and getting back to the drawing board. RIP Richie I know you're up there turning cardboard sideways and drawing up more masterpieces.

  • That was a good tribute to your friend. Nothing to be embarrassed about missing one of your own. May all his friends and family find peace in this tragic time.

  • RIP RICHIE he was an amazing friend and artist. I miss him so much and I am sure everyone he knew misses him, he was a wonderful person and an incredible friend. I don't think I will ever find another friend like Richie.

  • I say Wizards R&D designs a card in Richie's honor. It would be a great way to show their thanks to the people out there who, like Richie, love the game of Magic.

I wouldn't care what it does, I just think it would be one of the coolest things that Wizards could do for its supporters.

  • Yeah magic brought a lot of people together, it brought so many people to better understand each other, gave people new things to talk about, but losing something is just as hard as ever getting it, so for richie, a man who loved the game and was very passionate about what he did, rest in peace.

  • I'm sorry for your loss. Your 100th show was awesome and I'm sure he would have laughed hard from it. I didn't know him very well, but his artwork was amazing. Cya on the forums and keep up the good work on TMS.

  • Hang in there Bro, this should make us all appreciate our brothers and sisters that play.

I know I say all of this at the risk of sounding corny, but I Love this Game and the community that it has created. This game would not be the same without the players, like Richie Proffitt.

Thank you for posting such a touching video and my thoughts go out to his family and friends.

    May he Rest in Peace.

  • It is always tough losing a friend even the ones we never get to meet... Magic players are all family in a sort of way. The ones who knew him personally the lose is great, but for the millions of Magic tribes out there will miss him in spirit ~Paddywak

  • My condolences Evan!

    Be strong!

I whise ever one of his famelie condolences. keep making show richie.

    greating a fan

  • My condolences Evan!

    Be strong!

  • This was one of the most touching and honest and most heartfelt tributes I have ever seen. Richie must have been an awesome guy to have friends who cared so much about him like you and others do. Magic is truly a close, tightknit community. My son and his friends taught me how to play, and he showed me your tribute. Richie's family and friends will be in our prayers. May the event held in his memory be a raging success. Blessings to you.

  • I didn't know him, but was more than aware of his work at MTGsalvation, and the tone of his posts always seemed friendly. I feel for you Evan, I can't even imagine losing one of my friends. May he rest well.

  • You have my condolences and may he play Magic for all eternity. Wish I could have met him. I love Magic but he probably loved it more than me.

  • My condolences. May he rest in peace.

  • I wonder if he will play Magic with Jesus... I bet he plays w/u control xD

  • be strong evan

  • my he rest in peace

  • PolarbearGod was a great mod.

    i'll miss him.

    -J

  • Evan Im really sorry for your loss Its difficult to lose a friend I know. U should honor you 100th show to Richie I think He would of like that.

  • its so horrible to lose a friend..i know first hand. I use to be a big yugioh player and i would play everday with my friend kalvin, we even got him into magic competitivly in our clubroom. Then one day just like any other day he was being stupid saying gay jokes, slapping mens asses lol...then he was gone..crashed into a pole at 65 miles an hour skidded out on wet leaves in the road. Just gone forever. My heart is with everyone who knew this man. Life is precious cherish each moment

    -Xelnagaph

  • I was thinking of trading away my winter orbs, but I might decide to keep them in honor of you.

  • RIP PolarBearGod.

    God bless you.

Thanks for all your work on mtgsalvation, you were definatly a rumor god.

  • RIP PolarBearGod

  • Rest In Peice PBG....you and your family are in my prayers

  • he'll be tapping our cards for us from heaven

  • This is devastating. I've been thrown into a state of mind that no combination of words can describe. I never knew Richie personally, but I knew oh so well his love and contributions to the game. This is a terrible loss for everyone. I will be making a cross-country trip to Richie's memorial tournament, as well as donating as much as I can.

    R.I.P. Richie Proffit

    1977 - 2008

  • I'm sure Richie would have loved to have the 100th magic show dedicated to him.

  • I suppose Richie's final gift to Magic was to bring the community that much closer together. I did not know him personally or even on the internet as some other viewers did, however I believe I can somewhat begin to comprehend how great he was. My condolences extend to you, Evan, as well as to his family and his other friends.

  • very sorry for your loss Evan :( stuff he posted on the forums will be missed by all. i hope you come up with a good plan to honor him. take care.

  • damn....I loved his stuff that he posted on the forums Ill miss him even though I didnt know him personally.

  • That was touching, I am very sorry for your loss Evan.

  • I didn't know Richie well, but what I did know of him was a kind, caring, fair person, who did love the game, and not just the game but the people who played it and shared his passion both of the game and the art. A hole has been opened in the magic community and on MTGSalvation that will take a long time, if ever, to heal. I know I will miss his posts and his cheerful demeanor towards new players and artist enthusiasts.

I know that I am not the only one.

  • What was his job

  • i'm sorry, evan

  • My condolences for this loss.

  • Out of curiosity what was his favorite deck to play?

  • i can relate man.. magic is my place of escapeism. i feel like my magic friends are like my best friends. im al the way with ya man

  • I can relate bro...my senior year last year the funniest nicest guy died from a epileptic seizure...a few months ago a magic buddy was hit by a car trying to help a car that went off the road in a storm...Definitely do this benefit tournament...I think a lot of people would come out for it...I feel for you and everyone who knew him. The only thing I'd ever seen of him on starcity was "
The stack means nothing to Chuck Norris - he always has priority.
From SCG forums.

  • Condolences, I knew him from mtgsalvation, we'll miss him :(. Whatever comfort these words are to him, I hope it helps his family and his spirit wherever it may be.

  • I'm just another guy on internet, that always see "PolarBearGod" on many magic foruns. But I'm feeling strange... is like someone that I see everyday that now I'll not see anymore... and I'm feeling very sad about it... :(

  • This is awful.

  • Amazing man, friend, uncle, artist. When life throws "us" curveballs we dont know how to act, but that man had the best outlook on life dispite everything he had to deal with. I will continue to pray for his family and friends. It hurts my heart to know he's gone. I love and miss Richie, it hurts to the bone. I wish I could have spent time with him and I regret not being able to go to his funeral. :((

  • I have only known Richie Proffitt for a short time, since Feb of this year, but he was one of the greatest people I ever met in my entire life. And we didnt ever get to meet in "real life" either, but Richie was the type of person that was so open and honest that you actually could get to know him THE REAL HIM over the net. He never changed, he was just Richie.

  • What was his job?

  • if you watched the video, you would know or google his name.

  • I did both i couldnt tell now what is it?

  • read the info^

  • Ow thank you so much that told me everything it really told me EXACTLY what his job was thank you so much....

  • I've known Richie for almost ten years now. He was always a good friend to talk to and always made me laugh. We always talked about someday meeting one another. But sadly we never did. I will miss him so his sense of humor and ability to make me laugh no matter what. You knew even over the web he was a great guy. I know he is now in a better place where he won't ever suffer. I hope to see him again some day. My prayers go out to his mom and his family and countless friends he had.MISS YOU RICHIE!

  • Richie was a close friend of mine. The pain everyone is feeling from the lose is unbearable. I'm not surprised at the out pour of affection from people that knew him and new of him. Thank you very much.

  • My thoughts and prayers are with Richie's family and friends. I'm just another player out there who loves magic, and has been touched by this loss. Rest in peace, Richie.

  • Evan, For this memorial tournament, how about standard with every deck featuring one copy of winter orb.

  • Damn, I feel for u bro. I know if something happened to one of my Magic playing friends, I'd be there right away. I didn't know Richie, personally, but I wanted to let u know it's ok to let it out; damn, just try to avoid drinking too much, like I do.

  • Though I was aware of his contributions to the community I never got the chance to meet Richie. Now I wish I had been able to. My condolences to Richie's family and friends; and thanks to Evan for being the pillar of the community that he has been. You know you are doing his memory well.

  • Condolences to Evan & everyone who knew Richie.

  • Sorry bro :) Hopefully ( Well at least in my hopes!) there are plenty of magic cards in heaven! RIP

  • Did not know the man, but I am terribly sorry for the loss. Rest in peace.

  • I'm VERY sry for EVERYONE's loss that knew and/or met him. Even though that I knew knew him, I'm sure he was a GREAT person. Once again, I'm very sry.

  • Wow.

I am at loss of words.

He was such a nice and helpful person.

    He will be missed.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video. Richie has been one of my best friends for almost 10 years and the news last night left me in total shock. Even knowing he wasn't doing well doesn't lessen the shock, pain and heartbreak. Evan, thank you again for posting the video. I think the entire world should know how lucky we all were to be blessed with a spirit as sweet as Richie's. Richie lived and breathed MTG. A benefit tournament very fitting to commemorate his memory and help his family.

  • Rest in peace, Richie. You were a great artist and you will be missed sorely. We at MTGSalvation will never forget you!

  • you will be missed Richie :(

  • RIP Richie We all will miss you.

  • I only just saw our post on Salvation. PBG posted all kinds of great stuff in the custom card forums, the Mill, all over the site.

That is terrible. My heart goes out to you and all his family and friends. This is a horrible tragedy indeed.

  • I"m so sorry, for you an all the friends and family of Richie. This was hard to watch, I hate watching people cry, makes me want to cry and I hate crying. heh...

I have extreme respect for you being able to make a video like this, thank you for posting.

  • It takes a man to make a vid like this.. I feel you Evan.. I am sorry to hear about your friend passing away.. He would be proud of you!

  • I know what it's like to lose a very close friend of mine. It's been years now, still feel the loss. God bless you for posting this video and putting yourself out week after week with your Magic Show. Strength and serenity. We're all with you, no matter how near or how far in this shrinking world's measurement of miles and hemispeheres.

    R.I.P. PolarBearGod.

  • My regards to everyone who was close to him... I know how it feels to lose someoone that you are close to.. I met my best friend playing magic and he passed away a little more than a month ago.. I met him in 1996 at a local tournament here in Jacksonville. It is really hard to have someone that close to you pass away..... I hope everything gets better for you.

  • You have my sympathies and respect for posting such a personal side. You are right you know. People like Richie, the magic community and of course you Evan make magic the gathering come alive.

  • Richie was a wonderful person. He had great talents and the biggest heart. And it's tragic that something like this could happen to someone that was just so awesome.

My heart goes out to his family and his friends. I never got the chance to meet him and give him the biggest bear hug I wanted to. I think if you cry over the loss of someone that you've never even met, they had still managed to touch your heart. He will always have a place in mine.

  • Thank you for posting this.

  • I send my regards to you, his friends, and his family. From the posts I've read, I can see he was a good man and very much respected among the Magic community. I'm sure his spirit will linger with us around the forums and our hearts. It's our job to keep him alive within us. Good luck with everything Evan. Don't worry, I'm an ugly crier too.

Seriously, though, take care and good job. Someday I'll find a friend like you.

    ~Lord Sage~

  • There's no reason to be embarrassed at all. I empathize for you. I've had tragedy strike but never with a close friend. Hang in there.

    H4WK

  • respect

  • death is so surreal...

    good job evan. RIP richie.

  • Nicely done Even. I hate to see such an upbeat guy so down.

    May PolarBearGod live on forever!

  • R.I.P. Richie. Respect.

  • Thanks Evan. Although I never had the pleasure to meet Rich, I know, from your vid, that the Magic community is greatly diminished for his passing. Thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family.

  • P.B.G. You will live on in the hearts of our winter orbs forever.

    R.I.P. Richie.

  • Evan I'm sorry for your loss.

R.I.P. Richie, my Winter Orb goes out to you.

  • if you do a benefit tourny I'd try to make it even though penn state is far away from you, and good luck on episode 100 it's really cool doing this for him and I am with you on yout loss

  • RIP Richie, aka PGB, a true legend and a great man.

    he shall truly be missed.

  • I'm not a big commenter but i really thank you and the community for making outstanding work like this to help the community as a whole. There are various types of personalities and egos but things like this make us come together as a whole we will all miss you Richie!

  • another lost to our community. i hope his legacy will continue on. lets dont forget richie.

may your soul be guided to the heaven mr. PolarBearGod

    peace to all

  • This community of ours, as magic players, is probably the best one that I have ever been a part of... all of my best friends play magic and I cant see us stoping anytime soon. I just started going to tournaments a few months ago and everyone was so kind and welcoming, what a great network of great people...

R.I.P. PBG we won't forget you.

  • I'm sorry for your loss too...I got a little teary there myself. I know what you mean about the network of friends that forms- Magic is what brought an estranged friend and I back together. I'll try to participate in whatever memorial you guys do.

  • Thanks for this Evan. Makes us think about why we play the game and how we really are one big community, egos be damned.

Keep up the good work, if no other reason than for PBG!

  • Sorry for your loss. I just lost a good friend as well. I will pick up magic again for the tournament.

  • RIP from seattle

    RIP Richie

These tears of pain I weep to the skies. Not bitter drops, but water made divine. Each gem of sorrow slips, no longer mine. But proggered thus to echo other cries- Divine Offering

  • RIP, The loss is hard

  • Hmmmm, weird! A video of something real and from reality? True amateur video being used to convey real issues with real emotions? Five stars.

And goodbye PBG. It hurts to see you go. Thanks for being so awesome.

  • RIP, thank you for sharing

  • damn this is sad :'(.. RIP...

  • This is such a heart breaking and real video, Evan. Thank you for putting your heart out there for us all. Richie will be missed and his efforts will not go on forgotten.

  • I've never spoke or wrote to Richie, but I've read his posts, seen his commentary, and I realize that he did great things for the community. I'd be happy to help with anything for anyone of the magic community.

  • RIP

  • this is sad!

PBG was verry recognizable and sort-of iconic personality in our community .. and even tho i havent had a chance to kno him personal, i've heared community repping PBG ...

it is really sad that people like him pass away!

    RIP PolarBearGod

the good die young ... :(

PS: my condolenses to you, Evan fo loosing a friend ... :(

  • R.I.P.

  • I joined MTGSalvation not long ago, and I noticed that PolarBearGod actively engaged with the many forum posters. He was an awesome guy and for the little time that I got to know him, I can say with confidence that he will be sorely missed by all. Best wishes to his family and much respect toward him.

  • Ive known Richie for 11 years and i knew something was wrong when he didnt call me saturday asking me what i was playing at regionals. I had no idea it was this wrong. Richie is a great loss to not only the mtg community but humanity as well. he was one of the nicest people ive ever met.

A benefit tournament for him at SCG should be in order with the proceeds going to his mother. he would love that idea and im sure he will be watching from above to see who wins. RIP Richie.. ill miss you bro.

  • RIP

  • RIP Richie aka PolarBearGod. (or the other way around according to Evan. But lets not be humorous about this)

This video really touched me. I could feel that chunk deep down my throat just inching itself up, almost making me cry too.

I loved your art contributions, Richie. Once again. RIP.

  • Also Dont worry about exposing your feelings. To hide them only hurts more. Always remember him as your friend.

  • I thanked you on MTGS... and I'll thank you here. This is a very sad day:(

  • wow Evan that was straight from your heart, my condolences to you his family and other friends. Rest in peace, rust in vrede

  • Hey man, sorry for your loss. been watching your show a long time and whenever i heard about him he sounded awesome. glad to hear he was. Wish I really knew him. R.I.P

  • It's not embarassing at all to tell as many people ass possible that you have lost a friend and are sad about it. This really moved me.

My condolences to Richie's family and everyone he knows.

  • He was a good man.

  • I've been in many PolarBearGod's artwork contests and I can tell he was always polite and all in all a nice guy. Rest in peace, Richie.

  • We are with Evan!! God Bless Richie!! I have a idea why not try to make a place mat of his artwork and sell it. Then give the money to some kind of foundation. Plus a Special Tourney will work too.

  • Rich, you shall be sorely missed.

I'm at a loss for words right now. My condolences to everyone he knows.
