@mostrandomguyaround i was in this quake too, and whilst helping my mum clean up her kitchen of everything that fell out of pantry, i have an attack of giggles and laughed my head off for a long time, knowing the people were dead, knowing we had no electricity or water, knowing that my city was ruined, i laughed until i couldn't breathe. Shock and trauma does weird things to a person, as does the presence of a camera

Alot of people did help others, alot died when the aftershock rumbled thru and collapsed more buildings. If somebody runs that is their choice and they should not be condeemed for it. I ran home as I needed to find my family not because I am a pussy, I thought they would be dead.

Where were you when it happened, dude? I was in town that morning, and I would have hung out at Cashel Mall had the weather been warmer. I was only in town for an hour, went home (blame my Asian-ness for not tolerating a cool summer NZ day...) and I was at home when it happened. Fuck. I hear that the CBD will be closed for 6 months or until the Grand Chancellor Hotel is demolished.

@zanethoms69 there were around 3 major aftershocks after this big quake, and people died from falling bricks trying to help others. you weren't there.

@zanethoms69 The problem with helping everyone is that you don't know whether you will die yourself. So many people wanted to help and they did. Most of the people who helped get people out were killed in the 5.3 aftershock straight after the 6.3. Everyone would have helped but your brain gets absolutely scrambled.
