  • her backhand volley is her best shot technically in my opinion

  • austin, have you gone to comgratulate your cousin yet?

  • When she gets older, her arms get stronger, and she'll be hitting like a star!

  • thanks, since April 2008, she has gotten stronger. she will be competing in the Little Mo Nationals in October in Austin Texas. The top juniors in the nation had to qualify for this tournament, and we shall see how she does with the best juniors in the nation.

  • thanks ally...

  • GREAT job COUSIN!!

  • Hi Ally Jabally Banana Fana Fafally! You are the best cousin in the whole world! We love you!

  • i know, i know... just kidding :)

  • hehehe.

  • next henin

  • we have studied a lot of her. too bad she left the game so soon. while height matters, nothing can replace heart and a burning competitive spirit.

  • she stopped playing? why?????

  • henin retired this year right before the french open because she said she did not have the drive to continue to train with 100% committment.

  • She looks to be about 48 inch tall at 7-1/2 years old. If she develops as a normal child she will be 5-3 at age of 21. You may want to be 6-feet tall to be competitive with Sharapova and Williams.

  • I see your point. If it's in her genes to be that tall then so be it. At 5'3", she'll be like the 'little assasin' Amanda Coetzer. But i hope she'll be atleast 5'5". Hey, the great Billy Jean King is only 5'4".

  • sharapova moves like a bull, why the hell would you want to be that tall and move like that?

  • Work on footwork, backhand, and contact point (it needs to be more in front). Other than that she looks very good. Especially for her age.

  • Yeahhhh So I think you shouldnt brainwash your kids into doing sports at such a young age let them go out and be kids....

  • what do kids do at the park? have you ever heard of pee wee football? little league baseball? maybe AYSO soccer? you prefer kids staying home playing video games, and watching TV? is this the kind of childhood you had, or maybe you have kids that do nothing but stay home? normally, i do not repond to ridiculous comments, but sir, with all due respect, you need some enlightenment

  • TENNIS PARENT ALERT

  • However her backhand is almost like a push rather then a hit. Could this be due to her wrist dropping slightly when drawing back the racquet and having not as much time? I am exceptionally excited to see the development of this fine young player.

  • i think of a push as a player just "blocking" the ball and guiding it over the net. she has never been trained to "push", but sometimes don't get all her legs and trunk rotation into the shot. My goal in the 2nd video was to show how she keeps the ball in play on live balls from players hitting from the baseline. She is not trying to hit it hard. you will get a more accurate look as to how hard she can hit on the next video. Is there something specific you want to see in he game? Thanks

  • I decided to comment on this one video so I would not be confusing myself.

Her depth in the first clip was exceptionally good with her forehand generally placing within on or two feet from the base line. My only concern of this was the height she was achieving over the net with such a slow pace. But her development has shown that her balls have lowered slightly and increased in pace. What I would suggest as she gets stronger is raising the ball height and hitting full pace.

  • thanks for your comments. we are working on hitting higher with heavier topspin. she likes to drive the ball more when she has time. note that on her shallow balls she seems to be moving and not set with her footwork. we are working to improve her depth on shots that forces her to move. I will post a video sometime in November to show her progress. thanks

  • is she an eastern holder? i cant tell when she does forehand as if she is holding eastern

  • semi-western, but closer to the eastern side than a full semi-western, which technically is called a semi-western hybrid grip. on high balls, she unknowingly switches to a full western, which we are encouraging her not to do.

  • im playing tennis for 4 years and im 14 already and i still don't know which hold is the best i have a Japanese teacher and tells me eastern good for top spin is this true?

  • how old is katriena again?

  • she turned 8 this past june

  • Great progress.

I like the backhand and i love the forehand.

I hope she will turn out pro ;)

  • thanks. watch for another video in about two months and you will see progress and improvement in her overall game. she is playing more matches with children a little older than she is right now. i also put her against older women just to test her competitiveness. she enjoys winning and hates losing, so i try to give her good mix just to keep her working hard. but thanks for your compliments.

  • Make another video shortly, I want to see her spectacular progress.

  • i'll have another video sometime in november.thanks for your words of encouragment. i share the positive comments with her and she truly appreciates them because she works so hard in her game.

  • i think shes gonna go pro most people around her age would hit high loopy balls not caring where they hit it as long as they hit it in. katreina's the oppisite. keep it up!

  • thanks, she just beat some of the best 10 year olds in a junior open here in Hawaii, and she'll be playing in the Little Mo next month in San Diego. We will see how her hard work will pay off this summer. Recently, Anne Pankhurst of USTA player developmentin Carson California was very impressed with her game when she say Katreina play in Hawaii. She is pushing the Quickstart tennis for children 10 and under.

  • She has very solid groundstrokes. But what will differentiate her from other players is the net game, varied shots and most importantly fitness. Fitness and conditioning is half of the battle.

  • rumors are already spreading that the USTA plans to follow europe and mandate that ALL 10&U tournaments follow the "quickstart" format...so enjoy watching this little superstar on the baseline while you can!

  • her forehand is much stronger than her backhand.. her stroke on backhand is quite slow, but otherwise she has good potential. How old is she?

  • she turned 8 today. her backhand is more technically correct, and does not overswing. there are still some flaws on the forehand. she has tons of power on both sides, but we are focusing on technique over power. thanks

  • wow! she is so good! how does she take the time to practice? shes so good at that age!

  • thanks, she practices hard because she has passion for the game and is driven. also a little competition from her cousin Allisen, golf star who just broke one of Michelle Wie's records for youngest ever to qualify for the US Amateur Public Links (age 10) helps.
