This is such a wonderful piece of music. Working on this on the mando. Way fun to play. I like the additional ornamentation. Superb performance. Thanks for sharing.
For me this performace is on par with YoYo Ma's. The best I have heard for classical guitar for certain! If you ever happen to perform in Vienna, please let me know.

Bit too slow for me, but my taste is really fast like YoYo's (about q=120), and I think this performance is very cool and musical, notably the articulation. I play the cello btw.
Hi Matthew, great playing here, I can't help but notice your guitar position. It's not supported by your left leg like traditionally. Do you support the guitar between your right arm and your right leg?
Julian bream was very good at bringing Bach into the present moment and this player is also very good at this. He obviously really enjoys the music and can bring it alive in the same way that Bream could. Very enjoyable to listen to.
@tomophirwedge Well said!! I was going to be lazy and just stick with the Prelude, but after hearing this I think I'll learn it and some more of the suite. Inspiring!
subscribed ! :) sounded beautiful and the guitar looks really nice!
im trying to teach my self classical guitar at the moment.
im starting out just learning abit of sight reading in first position.
i was wondering if thats the main goal to be working towards, or is it more to try to learn lots of good pieces by heart or learn to improvise by knowing lots of theory ?
sorry strange question, i just dont realy know where im headed to be honest. it all seems abit open.
Matthew, I always love Bach suite for solo Cello, and this BWV 1007 is my fave. How amazing your guitar playing, so emotionally, and again I notice how the beautiful tones clearly come from your fingers... Just wait for your recording which will include the whole suite Matthew, you're a great guitar player!!
Hello that well you interpret the works I am close to initiate my classes of classic guitar, but not that it(he,she) marks or class of guitar to choose. If you could give me some advice(council) of a marca for beginners or rather a bit experienced so(then, since) I have some knowledge and in addition I interpret it(he,she) violates and violin, I do not believe that I am going to be complicated so much.
! THANK YOU 5 STARS AND A NEW SUBSCRIBER JUACO9292
i don't know, sounds really good but adding a bassline to bach in order to "enhance it" just never convinces me no matter who does it, be it you or julian bream.
Yes it is an interesting issue of taste. Sometimes I feel it really works and other times it is not required. Bach gave so much of his material multiple orchestrations and instrumentations plus subtle changes in the actual notation to fit various purposes throughout his musical life. I find it interesting that there are so many different transcriptionsa and of Bach's music. Having so many options open to the players instills a freedom not often offered with other composers.
oh i agree completely. especially being guitarists i find it interesting that he himself transcribed for example from instruments such as the violin to the lute. I just think that, being such a bach nut as i am, it just feels kind of impure, if you will, when bass notes are added or anything of that nature if bach had not done so in a similar manner on a certain piece.
I had heard this piece but was never familiar with the title. You have inspired me to pick up the piece first thing I do when I get home (since I'm currently on vacation).:] My only fear is that the only reason I believe I can take on such a piece is because you make it seem so effortless. Amazing playing.
love bach. i played a few years ago, the prelude, the allemande and the zarabande of the same suite for cello. you play it very good, so it seems to be very easy, but it isnt.
I have to ask though! Why did you forego the traditional footstool or newer balancing aids? What do you gain from holding the guitar like that? I'm very curious. It actually looks quite natural!
Thank you jconway! I feel much closer to the music playing in this way, I also use the Dynarette cushion at times for more support but in this video I am not using any balancing aids just my arms and legs.
