  • Great! What were the Helios' settings please?

  • Great! Thought it was a Hammond organ. Saw the drawbars, but then Hammond organs look different. Nice playing and use of the sounds.

  • @koasterkav Thanks for the compliment, I think Wersi were trying to style themselves on Hammond

around the 1970's. Their electronic rotary Leslie effect called "Wersivoice" is pretty good for its time.

  • You are fantastic, Organaut !!!

I like so much your play mode !!

Is always more pleasant to listen to your tunes !!!

That I like most is your ability to reproduce sounds of Klaus but with your personal style !!

    Mike

  • Dear Maurizio, thanks so much for sharing!!!

this is great music and great interpretation!!!

Organaut, wonderful!!! my best wishes to you!!!!

  • Lindo e Super Especial, que dedilhar!!!...Parabens...Sophia -Brasil

  • Love these old W-series Wersis. When the history of the electronic organ is written, they will be considered the high water mark of the analogue era. Nothing Wersi made subsequently was so impressive. I miss my old Galaxy.

    Great performance by the way.

  • Yes,its a shame the new ones have to use a computer based operating system and as a result they crash frequently I believe. When you're spending thousands on an organ you do not want this happening.I think maybe the new Roland organs with drawbars are a safer option. You can get some very close sounds on the Orla too.I had a Gt8000 but was too heavy to carry around gigging so I use a Nord C1 now with a Roland Sampler with my Helios samples going through an Orla KX980 Keyboard.

  • Yes. Roland currently have the high-end home organ market to themselves, which is surprising when one considers what a late entrant they were. There's nothing to match the Atelier range, certainly not from Wersi whose current models are uninspiring and rather optimistically priced in comparison.

  • Nothing comes close to the sound of the Helios. Even at the modern OAS models you can download the sounds from the Helios! The BETA that I own and the other models from the DX-range that followed have also good sounds, but not as special as the Helios. Great playing by the way.

  • Hi. Wondering why you parted with the Galaxy. Did it have the CX1 rhythm? Did you run the tall tower speakers (T5001) or the shorter ones? And did you build it or buy it assembled? Thanks

  • Bought it ready assembled - it was built by a Wersi engineer and was one of the first in the UK. Yes, it had the CX1, as well as the SoundComputer, Jimmy Smith Pak and Wersiharp arpeggiator. I did not have Wersi speakers for it. It now resides in Baltimore, USA.

  • This brings back memories of Klaus on Pebble Mill at One the second time, X CELL ENT

More Please will your Nord make a similar sound ?

  • Not like the Helios but there is a switch on it called 'unison'Available in 3 intensities which makes it sound like the older W248 through a Wersitone rotor cabinet available around the time. Klaus used this on the New pop organ series of albums(rock your baby,oh boy) in the background.

You can also get the old c3 vibrato effect similar Klaus's older records also (without Leslie)

  • Love the sound of your Helios I have three of the sods and they don't sound like yours! Klaus Helios, Well he had enriched ones unreleased to the public(yep I know sneeky trick) so no one will ever get his sound because his were better just check out your Strings to his I bet yours drop out in cycle (wersivoice) then check his..No chance wish I knew who bought his old ones. Loved the sound Playing and style Brill keep it up

  • The strings were a mystery to me for many years, but I turned the intensity switch right up on the wersivoice board. So they do not drop out of chorus.

I also have a recording of Klaus playing the Helios live at Pebble mill in 1984. His strings do not sound any better except on his records because he multi channel mixed and over dubbed them. If you ever heard an Elka x30 organ the strings sound very similar like a sort of cross modulation.

  • I think ELKA used a double delay line. I have an EP-8 - a little brother to the X-30 from the same time - and this organ use the same circuitry to make the leslie sound. I think the two leslie channels are added or subtracted when they are used for the strings. The downside is that this organ cannot do strings and leslie organ at the same time. When the strings are activated the leslie becomes a phaser to the organ sounds.

  • You are probably right, organfairy. I did like the strings on my X30 and wish I had kept it.Similar modulation effects were available on the Hammond B300 and the Arp solina. They called it bucket brigade delay lines.Depending how you set the trimpots you could get varying cross delay effects.

  • Brill

  • I mentioned a while back that I have bought a Roland Fantom xr Sampler. I have recently had great success in capturing many of the classic sounds from this organ so that I can play the sounds on my modern gigging equipment.I use a Nord C1 Combo organ and a Keyboard on top for my Wersi sound and drums etc. Sampling is a fussy job to get the pitches sounding correct across the whole range of the keyboard, but well worth it for the end result. If I can find how to copy waves I could sell them maybe.

  • Great playing! If you´re looking for some Klaus Wunderlich regirations, you could find them on the inside cover of the Wersi Demo record WERSITIME II. You can find it at Ebay Germany quite often.

  • Thanks for the comments and help from everybody recently.Sorry I have not replies till now.

Thanks EGGIWUIZ ! I have the Wersitime 2 album. There are also some registrations on the fascination 2 album.I think KLaus may well have designed the layout of the 'W'range of organs for Wersi.

  • organaut, dont forget klaus got his sound from multitracking and using other instruments as well as the wersi so it would be hard to re-create the sound heard on some of his albums. great playing by the way..

  • Very nice job!! Great arrangement and wonderful player. This is my preferred songs and i like sounds of this organ. Klaus forever! Thanks from Italy, Mikefox.

  • very good and your Helios has a great sound thank you for uploading

    Florian

  • Thanks! it is my pleasure.I enjoy it.

Regarding the Helios,it is my aim to capture some of these classic sounds on a sampler I have recently bought!

  • Klaus Wunderlich would be proud of you.

  • Thanks,I met and drank together with him and

some friends when he once came to Weymouth for

a special organ weekend dedicated to his fans.

He never got to hear me play although he laughed at the thought of me getting up on stage. That event was memorable. My Helios organ is a good one but I have no idea how Klaus got that magic studio sound from it on his albums.
