  • McCain was an attempt to bring in moderate voters sure, but Sarah Palin? What was that? I think more of a problem is Republicans sounding too conservative, not being liberal enough on some keys. Do agree with what you said about Arlen though; if he truly took a stand here he'd be with Lieberman and Sanders

  • in reply to KeithOlberdunce

  • The problem with the Republicans is that they have been listening to the media and liberals, who give the exact same opinion you do. You're a liberal. Why would a conservative ever listen to a liberal about how to be a good conservative party? How much input do conservatives have in the Democrat party?

  • You really shouldn't criticize Palin considering the clown who is the current VP. Palin is young and has the potential to gain experience and knowledge. Even after 30 years in DC,all Biden has done is become a bigger idiot. He could be there 300 years and still be an imbecile, at best.

McCain brought Palin in to take the fall for a horrid campaign. She should have been warned and said no.

  • The Republicans have become the party of "moral values"; it won for them back in 2004, but since then their ineptitude has been exposed, and people are sick of all of this God talk from people like Steele, Palin, Gingrich

  • No. People are sick of the Republicans sounding like liberals. Why do you think McCain was the nominee?

  • McCain was one of the most liberal republicans so i don't see how his becoming the nominee of the GOP proves that they are tired of republicans sounding like liberals.

  • McCain lost. When a conservative party runs a liberal, it generally loses.

  • not to mention all of the homosexual/pedophile's that have been exposed in their party in the past decade after all of the anti-homosexual we are the party of god type talk. people can't believe this type of two-faced hypocrasy forever.

  • There is no behaviour that will disgrace a Democrat - they have no standards to be held to.

  • Good for Arlen Specter..Hopefully Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe will follow suit and give us 62 seats..

lets see how FOX spins this one...

  • They're all liberals anyway. They might as well make it official. Who cares? The Republicans can't stop the socialism until 2010 at best anyway. It's a one-party state until then.

  • As a fiscaly conservative Republican I also feel that the party has moved to my right. I am tired of Rep. politicians that pander to the social conservatives, and the Neo-Conservatives. Those people are really not Republicans from the grand ol party, they actually hate our constitution and like things like torture, reducing a womans right to choose what to do with her body, etc... Seems more important to new Republicans that you are anti-gay marriage than to say you will balance the budget.

  • Great!

  • lets hope so!!

  • I bet more will follow....

  • Specter has only been a Republican for his professional elected life time. Until 1965 he was a registered Democrat.

  • Specter has been a liberal the entire time. Good riddance. After Specter gets a well-deserved knife in the back from the Democrats, he might learn what an idiot he has been. If he was making his stand on principles, he would have became an independent.

  • he was actually a very common type of republican in the 80's it is very modern trend that the GOP is full of far-right religious nuts.

  • The question is how Specter will fit in with a party who in recent times has been collecting anti-US '60's radicals, socialists and eco-idiots hell bent on destroying personal liberty and individual freedom.
