This was my first amp passed down to me by my dad. It certainly didn't sit quietly in the background, it was a in your face loud as fuck kind of amp that weighed as much as a tank. I think the electronics only got serviced once (new inputs) and the valves were replaced, everything else was original parts (not bad for an amp that was constantly gigging). Eventually I moved on and got a peavey JSX, which is a freckin masterpiece of an amp. Still miss the ol' duece though.
hi. What kind of speakers are in it? are they originals? do you know the specs of the speakers that are in it? I have a deuce vt series also I just need new speakers for it.
the ones you hear in the video are Sheffield 1200 speakers coming from a Van Halen Peavey cabinet and fitted in a home made 2x12 cabinet.
The original cabinet it is too small...this affects the sound a lot...I'd suggest you to buy an other cabinet (2x12 or 4x12) well made with good speakers instead of just changing the speakers in the original cabinet.

Wow, beautiful sound! I own this amp, it was found in a closet of a friend of a friend and given to me for free! Mine probably needs new tubes and the reverb tank doesn't work, but after hearing how nice yours sounds I might have to look into spending some money on it and getting it cleaned up! Great playing!
My father bought This beast way back And Im telling ya the Vintage sound that comes Out Of This amp is perfect.. The Reverb is amazing and You can Get any vintage sound from this Thing. Talking About Clapton back in Cream days , Page, Hendrix,Floyd etc etc.. Awsome amp
i have gotten 5 extra foot switches off of e-bay.some were priced high and some were around 30 or 40 bucks....peavey also made one for me and charged me 80 bucks..so check e-bay first..I cornered the market one day and got everyone that was for sell....but will not need one from now on...
have 7 peavey amps...love them..my fav is my VT mace head and matching cab..at 160 watts and 6 6L6s tubes it kicks some big time ass..also have 2 deuce's too..
what kind of strat are you using ?? sounds soooooo good! I´ve found myself a peavey deuce, i will collect it in two weeks time!! Lokking forward to it. I´m using a Vox ad60vt at the moment, it´s nothing special.
To find the User Manual for these go to the Peavey web site - go to the Support Page and 5 links down is the Owners Manuals/Operating Guides. Click on this and then click on Search Archived Owners Manuals. When page loads go to D and there it is about 20 links down from the top of the page.
Fancy that for an old 70's amp eh! The Peavey people are fantastic.
has anyone put celestions or other good speakers in one of these... i had one of these back in the day.. and sold it for a pos solid state crate 212... cant help but think these amps might be great amps with a couple of weaknesses like mabey a cheap speaker upgrade would make night and day diff... btw this one sounds good... also do these have effects in/out where you could bypass the preamp and say use a sansamp or something.. anyhow just wondering
i put eminence legend speakers in mine and it sounds great i also have the original foot switch but the 6 pin din jack on the amp is all messed up can u get new jacks for it?
@ShaneFloming i used to jam with a guitar player who made all his switches out of tuna cans... worked very well ... i would think 3 on off switches would be all you would need for that 6pin connector...would be a pain to make but once done it would be done
i guess im not understanding what u mean the remote switch jack on the back of the amp looks like someone tried forcing a different kind of switch into it i would thing someone would sell a replacement jack ???
I just bought this amp and was wondering how do I use the amp with an extension cab? Do I need to unplug the combo, or can I run the extension at 4ohms at the same time as the combo?
I had a footswitch made for a Peavey Standard (1978). I went to a local authorized Peavey dealer and got it done for 50 bucks. Took a bit of time, 4-6 weeks and I had to describe the amp in great detail including how many pin holes for the remote switch. I don't think all dealers would do this for you but some have big hearts and like to help.
Your amp is the same model of mine...that's strange you should have the "rate" pot to activate the phaser...If the phaser doesn't work is one of the damn TL604cp chips that is bad...
Otherwise the amp sounds really good with my strat
I have a Rate thingy , it doesn't make a phaser sound tho. Thanks for the answer anyway! And could you upload a video with you playing the strat on the amp? I really wanna know how it sounds
If you haven't the footswitch the phaser should work ...it it doesn't I'm pretty sure that one of the tl604cp chips is damaged or missing...go to your technician and take off the chassis...try to change "U16" chip with "U13" if the reverb won't work, "U13" is the bad chip...
I've had one of these babies going on 17 years now. Finally got around to cleaning all the booze and nico stains off it a few months ago and she polished up almost like new after years of abuse.
The previous owner dropped a couple of Celestion G12-80's in and it still has the same tubes I bought it with - Sylvia's I think.
Mine's been retired to the corner of the lounge for years now so weight not a problem any more but in my gigging days I reckon she added a few inches to my arms.
Hi ppl i have a peavey duece amp for sale.. its nice condition if u ask me.. reason im selling becouse.. its just to much amp for my dad.. im asking $250.00 for the amp.. if interested in this amp go to houston craigslist.. thats where i have it posted.. i will ship if i have to.. there is pictures of the amp on the post.. contact me threw the post if u are interested
how did those new speakers make it sound.. im always looking for a tube combo for the non 900$ price range people charge nowdays... also do they have an effects loop or send so you can bypass the solidstate preamp
The Celestions were in it when I got it and they always sounded great. There are pwr amp in & out jacks on the back panel so you can bypass the pre no probs I used to do it with my BR-900CD all the time. Do an online search for the users manual it is online believe it or not and I think you can still download it from the Peavey site as well
For the price these can't be beat and have a clean as clean and a decent distortion as well just be sure that you get one with the foot switch.
I've seen a Peavey Deuce VT in a pawn shop for sale. . I haven't looked to closely, but I played it with a US Strat and it sounded awesome. Tell me, should I get it?
I got it. Sounds awesome. I might save up and change the speakers though. And it sounded a tad too bluesy for my taste, but that's just me. Plus I need to play with it a lot more.
im thinking about picking one of these up. my dad found one in an attic, and I think that I might be able to get it for like $250-300. idk, he's going to find out.
so the distortion on these things is good? do you add any pedals to it in the video?
Hi! The distortion you hear in the video comes from the amp itself...only at the end I've used a Marshall Shredmaster to get more modern tones.
The distortion on this amp is strange...is not so easy to dial in and it requires loud volumes to sound good...but forget hard rock/metal tones without the use of pedals. Otherwise I'm planning to make a video only on the distorted sounds you can get from that amp...this video just doesn't make justice to it..
but it it is blowing fuses 99% one of the four tubes has a short contact (look at the tubes...you'll see small white dots on the glass of one of them ...that's the bad tube)
Cool, I'll check for specks, white dots. Can I change those myself? Special tools needed, or do they simply plug in like in an old radio? Having several prongs on the service end? Today Tim's amp has a power humm, and his standby switch, no longer stands by. Related trouble? Thanks for the info. You can hear Tims amp on 2 of my vids.
I looked on back of the AMP and we're using what is right. Sounds like these things are like TV's, they'll shock you when its unplugged. So, I guess I'll take it to a shop. Thanks....
hi, this sounds great. i have a pod x3 live, and am looking for an amp to run it through, would you recommend a deuce? does it have a power amp input?

The Deuce is basically a Mace only in the UK it employed 4x6L6s instead of the 6x6L6s used in the Mace which in the Mace was for more volume.
