  • Where was this movie shot? California? This is where Spielberg became a genius, this movie was epic and still a chiller after 40 years. Damn, nice work.

  • Nice idea, well filmed and edited.Duel was one of the major road movies Rich Hall left out of his excellent road movie prog., Continental Drifters. Worse, he left out Electra Glide in Blue, THE road movie!

Duel, for me, is in the top three, with EGinB and Vanishing Point.

  • Thanks for posting! I'm surprised how much some of the rural roads have changed. I thought they would be more like they were in '71. But they seem to have laid down stones and removed some mounds.

  • "creep comes around and knocks my sandwich" "dam man you need help"

  • Wow thats so cool to see these actual locations, thanks a lot!

  • very well done--now do one where the 1951 day the earth stood still was shot..it will be in la somewhere--

  • Space still looks the same..Fantastic...Duel is masterpiece

  • damn, music is creepy. that truck is terrifying..

  • Brilliant! -cheers for this..

  • This video is so awesome. I remember seeing Duel for the first time around 1980. It stuck with me then and its so cool to see how things have changed. I'm on the East Coast and have never been to California but I remember seeing "Acton Laundromat" -

  • You put a lot of time and effort into that - and it paid off. Good for you. I really enjoyed watching it. Duel is one of my favourite movies.

  • Oh wow! I had the idea to do this a long time ago. It looks like you beat me to it and did a great job! One of these days, I will fly out to CA and drive to the Duel locations. Your video will tide me over until then. Thanks!

  • Check out my Duel Remake we did in the late 1990s Its called "DUEL 2000" Its has been uploaded here on Youtube. We filmed it on some of the back roads where they did in 1971. The movie is in 5 parts, I hope you guys check it out.

  • If only man (no pun intended!) had left everything like Nature did...

  • Did they leave the truck and the car at the bottom of that canyon? I heard rumours about it LOL :D !

  • Ok I can now confirm 100% that the location this video shows as the 2006 version of where the Acton Laundromat is located is not correct. The real location is now a bank and the shopping center has some western style shops behind it. I have compared frame by frame shots of the pictures I took with what this video shows and I am 100% sure they are not the same location.

  • So did they leave the truck and the car at the bottom?

  • very good

  • That is too cool....thanks for the video!

  • Ok something strange I noticed on this video. The location of the gas station/laundry mat is now a bank and has been for a number of years. Certainly way before 2006. But in this video the picture shows what looks to be an abandoned building. So obviously that picture must have been take many years ago before the bank was built. Not as recent as 2006.

  • Great vid. Big fan. Dennis Weaver rocks. If you do not get this movie, then you do not get life.

  • that's funny!! In wich state was it turned?

  • I bet it was hard to find those locations. Good job, good editing. It this is not on the DVD bonus section, it deserves to be as all fans would love it.

  • Awesome :)

  • Excelent ideea , I always wonder how those places look now . I watch this movie since I was kid....and you gave me the answer. Thank's...

  • VOLVO Estate ! ! !

    Get Me a RIG ! ! !

  • Thanks for posting.

  • Short video of wrecked truck being salvaged would be interesting assuming the salvage job was recorded!

  • Thanks for the video. Duel was always a favorite of mine. I enjoy seeing "then and now" movie locations. I find myself trying to check locations in town/city and roadside locations on Google Map. Oft times when watching old TV shows from the '50s and '60s, movies, etc., where you see a street sign location, I will try to find it on google. It's interesting to see how things have changed or stayed nearly the same.

  • very cool vid, it musta felt nalstolgic to be at those places

  • I wonder if the restaurant is still called Chuck's Cafe? It looks the same on the outside, but inside, it's undergone remodeling, however, you can still picture the scenes that were filmed inside the restaurant.

  • @Kjr0se No, it's actually a French Restaurant now. I was there just last weekend. Unfortunately, I discovered that the gas station from the beginning was torn down recently. That was pretty sad. It's going to be an Ace Hardware now. Blech!

  • @mamabearmeatball U R a genius for making this video!!! Amazing past and presence format.......but it should have been a longer video. This is one of my favorite movies of all time! TY Cheers

  • This was soooo cool! Great to see its still almost completely the same!

  • Great work mate. one of my fav movies and facinating to see these old locations still there - especially chucks cafe!

well done and thanks for sharing

    ATVmidlands UK

  • great god job thanks for show de places ..

  • very well made loved it .....thanks

  • 2: 18 To 3:07 WAS AWESOME MUSIC!

  • 3:21 - LOL! This sort of informative and entertaining video is exactly what You Tube should be more about. Wonderful to see what these places look like now. Thanks for sharing - Your video is going in my favourite list right now!

  • i would have climbed down the cliff and looked for some peterbilt or plymoth parts

  • good point there must of been something still down there...must of been a job clearing it after the film shoot

  • This is an absolutely marvellous video!!!! Unbelievable how some places change drastically over time and some don't at all.

  • This is absolutely brilliant.

I think it's on the Sierra Highway in California??

  • What the hell was that supposed to mean?

  • Humbly appreciate the hard work gone into this video. Thanks

  • So, is the resteraunt and the old gas station on the old 14 or are they on Soledad canyon road? or was that part of the business 14 at that time? or mabey not?

  • I didn't realize how many fans this movie had. I watched it with my daughter and she says Dennis Weaver looks and acts just like I do. I feel like I'm looking in the mirror when I watch it, because of the resemblance! I have also looked for those places, and had dinner at that resturant, loved the pics, thanks!

  • Great job, How did you ever find those places?

  • is that the cliff the truck went off at the end

  • that is crazy i would br truly scared to drive on that same road

  • great job

  • Nice work. Amazing 38 years later and nothing much has changed. Damn this is a big world....

  • Fantastic!

  • Then are most of the scenes not on the 14, on Soledad canyon Road?

  • this is soooo good!

i like very much the clip :)

    greetings :)))

  • Yeah, Iv'e never been to Acton, but when I lived in the midwest some one I met did quite a bit of business in the L.A. area and he told me that it was filmed in the Acton area on and off the old state route 14. But he said not all the old two lane is still there. In some places its been widened into four lanes

  • buenisimo,am a big fan of this movie in Argentina the title is reto a muerte.

    gracias.

  • The french resturaunt is called Le Chene I think

  • Thanks for putting this up. Ive been a big fan of the film since I first saw it. What's Chucks Cafe called now?

  • It's a French Restaurant actually. Believe it or not, the old booths are still there. They've been recovered, but they're the same ones from nearly 40 years ago. Can't remember the name of the place at the moment, sorry.

  • I really enjoyed this!!! Duel has been my favorite movie since I was a little kid and I have always wanted to drive the roads that were in the movie! Thank you for taking that drive for me!

  • Often wondered what these areas looked like today and whether or not the buildings that housed the snake o rama and Chuck's Cafe were still around. Now I know. Thanks

  • lol snake o rama isnt in this :( only the first gas station

  • whoa i love dis move

  • what is the song??

  • Again this is awesome! Billy Goldenberg's dramatic score really highlights the tension, suspense and horror of the original movie.

  • This is freaking awesome! THanks for the post!

  • beautiful video...i love duel...what's the second song??

  • Where was this filmed at? It looks like the area around Acton, California which is north of Santa Clarita. Just a guess. Am I right?

  • Acton and surrounding areas, yeah.

  • I love the film's you've done fella. 10 out of 10 with the work...

I hope you keep it up with other great classic road movies

  • brilliant. its my alltime fav film, would love to do what you ve done, just awesome, i wonder if the snake-o-rama place is still there or the railroad crossing where the truck tries to push Mann onto the tracks ? Thanks again.

  • Amazing film and great clip, thanks a lot man!

  • Great video. One of my favorite films of all time.

  • Great vid'! Where did you get the music from? I have the score on my pc, but it's not the same as what you have dubbed over your video.

  • I got it off Itunes. Search for the films of stephen spielberg album.

  • Great movie. Dennis Weaver was also good as Mccloud. May he rest in peace. I was a fan of his. Has anybody got any Mccloud they could stick on youtube? I think that was a great series.

  • i love duel, its a movie with taste, unlike scarface, i hate that movie, DUEL IS THE BEST!

  • This is awesome!! Man, many of those locations still look very much the same even after 37 years!!

  • Have any of you guys seen my remake of Duel ? Search for "Duel 2000 Hbvideos" You sould be able to find it. We also filmed at some of the same locations the real duel was filmed at, Check it out. There are 8 parts to it. But on myspace video its only in 2 parts.

  • I love this movie!,Really cool to see those actual places nowdays!

  • i love duel !!! and this was excellent !!! now get back out there and do "easy rider".

  • My favorite scene is from 1:40 to 1:47! First you see the big, dirty, scary truck, and then suddenly the little, clean Honda. Brilliant!!!! LOL! :-)

  • duel is one of my all time favourites - thanks for posting this! Nowhere looks much like it did in the 70's now does it..

  • sooooooooooooooooo cool

  • Man thats neat! I found the tunnel, cafe and place by the RR tracks back in 05.

  • nice one,fu.kin fair play

  • That is unbelievable. Man, I always imagined going out and just looking for all the old spots they filmed and stuff. You are so lucky (and quite die-hard, I must say).

  • man thank you for this video!!!! wow i bet it was fun as hell checking out all those places.

  • excellent video, should have had alook at the bottom of that cliff at the end to see if there was any reckage left over from the film

  • The house at the beginning was the biggest miracle. I paused the movie and managed to make out the curb number. Then I paused as the car passes a street sign. I liked up the street and address in mapquest, narrowed it down to three different spots in the city, and took a shot. It was the first place. Get this, I told the people in the house about the film and they had NO IDEA. I don't think they cared either, lol.

  • The part of the film where Weaver falls asleep near the train tracks was dumb luck. I'd seen the film so many times I just recognized it right away. Chuck's Cafe and the Gas Station came from exploring.

  • It wasn't easy. There are a few roads listed on IMDB, but I spent two weekends driving all the highways listed to find the specific spots.

  • Cool! How did you find the locations of all this stuff?!
