Oh i've got my version of the story in the description, but in the movie The duke threatens to kill Christian because he's jealous of Satine and Christian's relationship. So satine tells Christian she doesnt love him and to leave, but she really does love him. She doesn't tell him that the Duke plans to kill him though because she knows Christian would fight for her.
