  • Yes...i was so lucky to live in Hollywood in the 60's, and when I want a flashback, I always play this song. Never tire of Ry and all of the fantastic musicians he plays with. Hollywood...piano..drums..guitar bird call ,hot bodies on the dance floor. mmmmmmm

  • Yo ! What a session !!!

  • JIm you are the one!

  • Some songs just require Jim Keltner for a fact .

  • CHOPS!!

  • What a great piece of music!

  • Keltner King, saw him live in th 70's!!

  • so sick of studying biochem... somebpdy do me instead!

  • Perfection...

  • Hip, hop, skippedy-pip.

    Skunkle pippy skip.

Gypsy little shaker. You big earth quaker.

You take her and make her bake you a cake by the lake you big LA Lakers fan.

I heard this and began to get out my frying pan, fish & chips, flap jacks, hot cakes, griddle cakes, gritz, home fries and cat fish crawdad hilly billy cakes.

I started jumping around outside singing & yelling and telling everyone I was a Ry Cooder gypsy hippy flippy trippy flower child of wild nature & Grape Nuts.

  • @JoeJacari "I know that feeling" :-)

  • Great!

  • Timbales solo are so cool and the drummer plays great base drum into it. A wacky piano solo, but I like it. Who does the bird call at 4:18? The "scatting" tenor reminds of Fela Kuti. Has anybody else the same idea?

  • @nuurnwui "Who does the bird call at 4:18?" - probably Terry Evans

  • @mbroders I always thought that was Ry lol

  • @nuurnwui its a BASS drum

  • This was SWEETWATER in Mill Valley in '73-81... tooooo fantastic and you got it EVERY night... I read the other day Sweetwater closed... oh well... now, it's in Kyiv!!

  • @MaxIII Sweetwater is reopening by Bob Weir from The Grateful Dead. I understand it will be right around the corner from where the old one was on Throckmorton.

  • THIS IS THE SOUND OF ........UNITED STATES OF AMERICA !!!!!!

Many Greetings from Italy and Many Thanks To enjoy all of Us with this.

    alberto

  • How to do I purchase a DVD of this amazing concert? Thanks.

  • this is a very happy and happenin' band! love the 1,000 watt smiles on every one of their faces!

  • One of my all time favorite from Ry Cooder, the way he's grooving the song is just amazing Can't get enough ! Keltner is a real master !

  • Sweet!!!...damn, I lived in S.Cruz at the time --- wish i'd seen this show --- those were the days of wine, xtc and roses my friend,,,thought they'd never end....sigh....thanx for the vid - and t/memories!!!

  • Too bad the electric piano sounds so shallow in this concert... The rest is brilliant!

  • Jim Keltner is the master of smooooooth!!!!

  • Didn't Jim play drums on some Leon Russell albums and travel with Leon for awhile?

  • Ry Cooder is the Best Ever ...the rest are just that ....the rest ...and let them be ..

  • Amazing, amazing stuff. Is this on DVD yet anywhere?

I don't know what to say first:

1)"Van Dyke Parks? How lucky is Ry Cooder to get a sideman like that?"

    or

2)"Ry Cooder? How lucky is Van Dyke Parks to get a sideman gig like that?"

I'd give both arms to jam with either of them, even though I'd suck because I had no arms.

  • Is there a better drummer out there that Jim Keltner? Doubtful

  • I would like to hire this band.. does anyone know who the boggly eyed geezer with the strat is.. next to the mexican dude..

  • this band is off da hook! Van Dyke is possibly the most unsung genius in American music. I have the honor of knowing him a little, and having him play (for free!) on some of my demos. An amazing man, and he's worked with most of the rock and roll hall of fame. And me, from the hall of obscurity!

  • Sex is great to this..thankyou ...such a groove.

  • Yes isnt it, I saw him at Hammersmith in 1982, fantastic gig...!

  • great

  • Van Dyke Parks on Piano? How'd he get that gig? lol.

  • Anyone notice JK has a brush-looking stick in his right hand during his solo?

  • Isn't that a 'HotRod'?...a bunch of sticks bound together..a quiet stick?

  • does anyone know if he wears the sunglasses for a vision problem or is it just his style?

  • I think he's just really cool.

  • Color me SPEECHLESS here in Chicago.....!

  • Jeezus squeezus. I haven't seen Ry & Flaco live forever. I'd even pay full price for a copy of this show. Bobby King & Terry Evans were so great together. Keltner's kicking it, too. WHEW!!

  • Magnificent

  • Woh Woh Wow Jiiiiiiiim Keltner on drums!!!

  • Arnold McCuller has been phil collins backing singer since 1988

  • Wow. What else can be said?

  • Fuckin' A!

  • This is so damn good... !!!!!!!!

  • Jim Keltner - no one lays it down like JK!

  • Viva percussion!
