Yes...i was so lucky to live in Hollywood in the 60's, and when I want a flashback, I always play this song. Never tire of Ry and all of the fantastic musicians he plays with. Hollywood...piano..drums..guitar bird call ,hot bodies on the dance floor. mmmmmmm
You take her and make her bake you a cake by the lake you big LA Lakers fan.
I heard this and began to get out my frying pan, fish & chips, flap jacks, hot cakes, griddle cakes, gritz, home fries and cat fish crawdad hilly billy cakes.
I started jumping around outside singing & yelling and telling everyone I was a Ry Cooder gypsy hippy flippy trippy flower child of wild nature & Grape Nuts.
Timbales solo are so cool and the drummer plays great base drum into it. A wacky piano solo, but I like it. Who does the bird call at 4:18? The "scatting" tenor reminds of Fela Kuti. Has anybody else the same idea?

This was SWEETWATER in Mill Valley in '73-81... tooooo fantastic and you got it EVERY night... I read the other day Sweetwater closed... oh well... now, it's in Kyiv!!
@MaxIII Sweetwater is reopening by Bob Weir from The Grateful Dead. I understand it will be right around the corner from where the old one was on Throckmorton.
Sweet!!!...damn, I lived in S.Cruz at the time --- wish i'd seen this show --- those were the days of wine, xtc and roses my friend,,,thought they'd never end....sigh....thanx for the vid - and t/memories!!!
this band is off da hook! Van Dyke is possibly the most unsung genius in American music. I have the honor of knowing him a little, and having him play (for free!) on some of my demos. An amazing man, and he's worked with most of the rock and roll hall of fame. And me, from the hall of obscurity!
Jeezus squeezus. I haven't seen Ry & Flaco live forever. I'd even pay full price for a copy of this show. Bobby King & Terry Evans were so great together. Keltner's kicking it, too. WHEW!!

Amazing, amazing stuff. Is this on DVD yet anywhere?
I don't know what to say first:
1)"Van Dyke Parks? How lucky is Ry Cooder to get a sideman like that?"
or
2)"Ry Cooder? How lucky is Van Dyke Parks to get a sideman gig like that?"
I'd give both arms to jam with either of them, even though I'd suck because I had no arms.

Is there a better drummer out there that Jim Keltner? Doubtful
