  • Bill Harris was/is my favorite trombone player also. More than any other, he spoke to me through his horn. Tremendous feeling, while being tremendously hip. The irony: he was a funny, funny cat--and that too comes across. Some "critics" belittled his style, saying he didn't play enough notes. Philistines!

  • Bill (not Phil) is my favorite bone man. Next is Jack Teagarden, followed closely by Bob Brookmeyer.

  • Bill is one of the few tb players I can identify after the first! note by his sound.
