Yes, I believe that the strategy is to keep the AJ name temporarily and set a bar of service that is pleasing to the people. However, after a period of time they will begin the eventual transition to CAL. I am Jamaican and my belief is if you can't run a business properly, you have no right owning it. At least there will be a strong regional carrier to compete with AA & BA. This competition between the Islands only truly exist among the ignorant --- I hope.
Also, to all Jamaicans. If you want AJ back, SUPPORT CARIBBEAN AIRLINES and not countries that dont give a toss about Jamaica. Look at the bigger picture. We are very successful. I am thinking of leaving Cathay for CAL when the B777 and B787's come. Because if we get that extra support, you may get to Re-introduce Air Jamaica to the world. Just my view. Stop being so ignorant. We are friends and brothers at the end of the day.
First I have to say that it does bother me that Jamaica no longer owns Air Jamaica but the airlines has been run by incompetents for over the last few decades and it was due to this poor management that it ended up in the toilet. It is amazing that the airlines lasted as long as it has. I think it was a good and smart gesture by CAL to keep the name (for now), trust me that will change.
@yappcd As a Trinidadian, I can tell you that it will be gone entirely but I am displeased with that. I thought and wanted Trinidad to buy, fix, renew and sell back the new and improved Air Jamaica. But in a meeting with government officials and the owners of Caribbean Airlines, that seems to be a fantasy. Either way, it is a nice jesture as you said. At least AA and other North American airlines along with the likes of VA and BA will all have very stiff competition
Just wanna add 1 more thing. I flew on caribbean airlines Dec 18 2010 to kingston Jamaica, and the washrooms smell like piss. Nothing against the airline, but they gotta do sumpen about that.
@EagleHANtsi Yes!!! I total agree with u. I wrote them the other abt the scent of the cabin in general, and Suggested that the have some airfreshening system on board. Hopefully they do something abt it!
I like the new livery. I love and miss air jamaica, but personally? I feel one caribbean airline is the way to go. To cut cost such as fuel and landing fees. This is nothing new, many airlines joined forces in these tough times.
@jamaicandonj I agree with you a 100%, this plane is just a image to fool the Jamaican people into believing that Air Jamaica belongs to us, it is a 100% owned by CAL, I loved air Jamaica and miss it, but its JET BLUE< DELTA< AMERICAN or Continental for me, i just cant fly with Air Jamaica anymore, cause it just does not exist, they just keep using the name so they can make money, but its biting back. cause when a tourist sees this plane they think of beautiful blessed Jamaica :)
@shv90210 It unfortunate that you feel this way, especial since the flight crew are Jamaian. I can undrstand your feels toward the situation, since the Jamaican people lost ownship of their pride and joy, but i don't understand how can say that u'll give ur money to America rather than to the CARICOM simply because of your strong opinions against Trinidad. I mean i can let DELTA and JetBlue fly but American Airlines!!! I will NEVER flight with AA by choice...
@BrandSelection I Know CAL is 100% owned by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad And Tobago, but it does not have the immense resources as the Federal Government of the USA, the US will pump half a trillion in its Airline Industry, which is worth $4.7 Trillion. The American Airlines crash was caused by bad weather and poor visibility, not by bad safety procedures and damage aircraft, you should check your facts before you speak, yes i would support the US over this so called CARICOM, its
@BrandSelection Does not exist, this CARICOM thing is a big joke and its T&T that is the cause of it, you guys claim your so rich so you dont need the rest of US,yet without Jamaican Markets your country will sink, if we pull out of Caricom the region will fail, this caricom thing is a dream. AA is to me a great Airline and a symbol of American strength and Power, the US stared the Aviation Industry and up to this date no country can beat or even challenge us in Aviation. Jamaica has a larger
@shv90210 locally you heard of the AA 737 that over shoot the runway in Jamaica injuring many on board. Then the 757 that had a long and very visible crack on one of it's wings AND CONTINUED FLYING to it's route, with the PR person saying that " The crack didn't occur on the critical structure of the plane" HELLO so if the wing is not a critical structure of the plane, what is?
@shv90210 To me if u are truely Jamaican u will support ur local brand, which employees Jamaican people, who in turn are "The Spirit of Kingston", because at the end of day if Jamaicans on the hold adopt ur mindset then it is AirJamaica that will lose NOT CAL, cuz dispite the many benefits to adding AJ to our family, CAL has survived with out them n could continue survive with out them. I mean would you have preffer it go to AA who no's nothing of carib culture and has a poor safety rec to boot?
@BrandSelection I am 100% Jamaican, and i did support my local brand until it was sucked and eaten up by CAL from Trinidad, For to long now our government has been selling out corporate Jamaica to those devils in Trinidad who hate and are jealous of Jamaicans. This so called Air Jamaica does not represent us anymore, they only kept the name to use for Marketing, because more people would choose AJ over CAL, so if they change the name they would lose money, also what makes you think my mindset is
@shv90210 Hate and jealous of Jamaicans? You serious? So we abandon our Carnival/Steep Pan/Oil/Pitch/Calypso/Extremely beautiful people and all other Trinidadian creations and aspects of life to be Jamaican? Your having a laugh! The largest member of Caricom is us. So what are you on about? AJ no longer exists. And CAL didnt NEED to buy AJ to survive. We saw an opportunity to grow and only a fool wouldnt take it.. LIVE WITH IT. Stop being ingnorant. AND YOU ARE NOT INDIAN. You are negro!WTF?LOL
@BrandSelection Bad, lets see, Trinidad is the only country within the region which act as if its all powerful and mighty, your racist Indian country believes that its the best and better than all of the countries in the region, I am just doing what i feel is right for me i would not stop any Jamaican from flying with CAL, lets see how long CAL will survive, you guys want to be a monopoly in the region, you guys want to buy up all the airlines in the region, you just got more competition from a
@BrandSelection New airline called REDjets, they might be small now, but there market share will grow and be a challenge to CAL, especially when Digicel and LIME are Sponsors and Marketing extensively for REDjets, as your transport Minister said, CAL needs Air Jamaica because no small airline can survive alone, just as BWIA west Indies airways failed, CAL can fail too, because the region is plagued with low cost carriers they are cheaper, give better service and are prompt up by their Government
@BrandSelection Aviation Market than Trinidad, i bet your a Indian from Trinidad, i am a Indian too but lets hope that your dry eye PM keeps her word, for the sake of both of us. I will give the New Air Jamaica a try but if i dont like it, then i wont fly with them.
@shv90210 Ok shv90210 I will commend you on having the guts to give the new AJ a try. As much as i would love to disprove much of what you're saying, it would be pointless to try given your deeply entrenched and sadly mistaken believes about Trinidad (based on "hear-say") and your American ideology which is sad for someone who claims to be 100% Jamaican, but has the athem of the USA in his Favorites list with the Jamaican Athem abscent in there...hmmmm. I will disprove you in one area though....
@shv90210 I am not of East Indian decent, i'm prodominantly African, mixed with Chinese and Spanish. Secondly i am fully aware of my country's issues where race is concerned, but please don't act as though we're the only ones that are plagued by it. Though non can refute the benefits of merging with AJ, once again i'd like to remind you that CAL was doing well without AJ and so was not needed for the purpose of survivability. Thirdly BWIA failed becuz of politics not bc they were not profitable.
Yes, I believe that the strategy is to keep the AJ name temporarily and set a bar of service that is pleasing to the people.
