  • they should use these things in the military

all you have to do is mount some weapons

  • Spiders still have 8 legs

  • That thing walks like it's really real. I'm impressed by far by the mechanics of it, and the fact that it's legs look like ornamental throwing knives. :M

  • SPIDERMASTERMIND

  • make a very small robot that can make itself automatically.

then allow for the instructions to make itself to be randomised, including the ability for the randomiser to change the amount the instructions can be randomised the next time around.

    viola', robot evolution!

  • Is this a linkage system? Did you invent this yourself? I would love to get the plans of the leg design to build my own!!!

  • y not 8 leg??

  • *GASP* It's Astrophil! :)

  • SOOO COOL I LOVE THE LEGS THEY ER SO CREEPY

  • huh? how can it be 8 demonic bottle openers if there are only 6 installed?

  • SO CUTE!!!! I've been trying to make a mechanical spider with a light bulb on it(For my costume) But I have no clue how to make it. :( Not really in my ballpark.

  • its so beatiful OoO

  • i know that they are working and have been working on a 4 legged robot for the military that would help infantry carry either ammo or the wounded. how far is this from being realized with the current technology? great spider mech by the way. it is super awesome

  • epic legs...

  • This looks very well made. I like how you have full steering from only two servos, usually these sorts of robot spiders have at least three servos per leg.

  • BADASS MOTHA FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.

  • "ohh look a spider !" *picks up* "ouch!"

  • Doont step on those legs XD

  • 6 legs not 8 cant be a spider

  • This is very cool, and I was wondering... how hard was it to build and are the plans open sourced? It seems like this would be a very fun course project for say, mechanical design (I'm an engineering student). I'm especially fond of the visible linkages, but I would rather study a cad file or shop drawings than the video.

But either way, thanks for posting!

  • Great! It is amazing to see robot walking on land... How about walking on water? see on youtube: NEWEST ROBOT THAT WALK ON WATER

  • The overall width is about 10 inches. Unfortunately, this project was cannibalized for another mech. I have the drawings and plan on building another.

  • I have to admit, this does look pretty badass. How big is it?

  • Whoa. That thing is awesome! It moves really well, and the epic steampunk leg design is the icing on the cake.

  • NIce work, but did you have to make the legs so damn evil looking? I mean they look like the prototype for a killing bots.

  • Guys read the description.

  • Now just put furby on it and some sensors.

  • I want one.

  • looks more like a crab to me lol

  • ummmm...dont spiders have 8 legs??

    it is pretty cool tho

  • no, they have 6 legs ..also scorpions wich are relatives of spiders

  • ha right, this is exactly tho only difference between spiders and insects! Spiders have 8 legs, insects only 6.

  • that was sick

  • what about a cover

  • what about a head

  • 6 legs?!!!

  • very nice, 5 stars

excellent job on the leg desighns cant wait to see the cover

  • what is the name of this model

  • To be honest, I'd smack it if it came near me. Looks scary.

    Impressive, but scary.

  • tht shts gy

  • damn it!

  • Excellent! :D

  • BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!

  • COOL!!! ^_^

    But it needs EIGHT legs:p

  • cool!

  • Totally steampunkerific. Awesome.

  • freaks the shit out of me

  • looks like a cross between 8 demonic bottle openers and Frankenstein's alarm clock...xD

  • wow

  • nice legs now it needs a abdomen cover that looks as cool as legs , needs scary fangs!

  • Nice...!

  • only 6 legs not spider sry

  • read

    ...moron

  • all it needs is fake skin now good fucking job

  • more like a crab:P

  • the middle leg is on an axel and the two others function like one leg, not exactly rocket science.

  • hey youre right! this has nothing to do with rocket science :D

  • spiders are supposed to have 8 legs.. just throwing that out there

  • Well i think hes adding more from what i seen from this video description.

Description: 6 of the 8 legs installed on the spider...

  • wow thats cool and kinda creapy :P

  • cool but knnda scary

  • Ridiculous chrome legs, they look like reject parts from OCC.

  • LOL! I thought the same.

  • nice legs...

  • hot damn!

  • wicked! ;)

  • Legs are too fancy for my taste

  • Im gonna have to agree.

  • if he makes the rest of it mindblowingly fancy, it'll be a delicious piece of electropunk robotics. otherwise....yeah.

  • What? Robots aren't alout to be art?

  • i want one

  • its not a spider it has 6 legs and a real spider has 8 but still good job it looks awesome

  • read the description einstein.

"6 of the 8 legs installed on the spider..."

  • Eeek! It's coming towards!

  • looks like the spider chairs form star wars and hitchickers guide to the galaxy.

  • good knowelege of natural history folks!!!yup indeed.....does it matter how many legs its got its beautifull:)

  • it's...beautiful....

  • dont spiders have 8 legs? not six?

  • i give you the same responce as drugaddict..

    read the description einstein

"6 of the 8 legs installed on the spider..."

  • I wouldn't wanna get stepped on by that guy!

  • 5W33T!^_^

  • Is the cord for power only or is there a computer feeding it instructions?

  • The cord is only for power. I didn't have servo tape at that very moment when I shot the video. The legs on the right side are controlled by the servo facing the camera. It pulls legs up and down and for and back from the same rotational servo.

  • first spider I have seen with 6 legs, more like an ant or something >.>

  • moves pretty naturaly

  • have you ever seen a spider?

  • Well, it's like a slow motion spider.

  • have you ever seen yourself hanging upside down in a rusty dark room with a knife in your stomach

  • Wow, very well designed legs.

  • Crabs move sideways, foo! This one is obviously moving forward.

  • er, spiders have 8 legs.

  • it says something about '6 of 8 legs' in the description I think. no matter how many legs it has, it's still pretty cool

  • spiderobot spiderobot climbs like spiderman but it is a robot LOL

    GOOD WORK

  • OMG its called spider robot cause it moves like a spider u dumb ass sorry for calling u people dumb ass

  • nice legs!! :D

  • hey like in Virus

  • It states that in the description, numbnuts.

  • military spider style!!!

  • wickedd!!!

  • Cool leg design

  • Its like the gothic spider version.

  • omg that's so incredible

  • Insect...

  • arachnid...

  • vid desc. says only six legs are installed.

And if you really want to get into it there's only one body segment so it's neither

  • I'd say it actually is... a robot. XD

  • yup and no eyes ;)

  • It's scuttling!

    Whoopedy whoop whoop whoop.

*zoidberg impression incase nobody got that.... I'm sorry, i'll go now*

  • The legs are interesting.

  • ...a six legged spider.....

  • 10 points for originality

i have several projects of my own and use the 12v motor gearbox from old vcr recorders

very compact and give nice speed.

  • Very cool - great work!

  • @turtleflex: Wow, did you design the whole machine by yourself?

  • If you put say a small live steam engine on it, it would be just SO steampunk. Just look at those legs. You already got most of the styling.

  • looks more like a crab to be

    good work

  • nioe work

  • Those legs are frikin wicked.

  • only 6 legs, it's not an arachnid, it's more of an insect, like a beetle.

  • The other two legs were not installed at that time, you can see the mounting posts for them in the lower rear of the mech.

  • I dont have the patience for stop motion. I can see where you might think this with the light changes however I recorded this with a Nikon Coolpix in MPEG mode.

  • omigod , you made it tht fluid with the help of only 2 servo's ? , you should get a medal mate ^^

  • wow! style AND fluidity. Not bad. not bad at all.

  • rad!! well done my friend.
