Bravissima Mirella sempre, ma l'età si avverte un poco, nella durezza delle modulazioni, in forzature della linea e in una certa fatica generale. Per di più l'interpretazione (checché ne dica il suo alfiere Giudici - campione del partito preso, il suo) è un po' esteriore, un po' da old lady, mi sembra.

@laddnyc Gaddafi ruled Libya for almost 40 yrs. Is he a good leader? Does it mean he has had a successful career? If what you asserted stands, then everyone in the world should stay mute and let Gaddafi have his ways, right? Simply because by taking exception to what Gaddafi did during his reign is not "civilized and intelligent" and that Sarkozy, David Cameron and Hillary Clinton should not post "nasty comments" about Gaddiafi, right?

I love this aria!!! I have to sing Poveri Fiori and it's an amazing aria!!! Also Mirella Freni is an incredible opera singer and she sings poveri fiori so so beautifull!!!!

We have on youtube great performances of this aria by Freni, Caballé,Callas and the incredible Magda Olivero. while we all have our favourites, we should be grateful to all these great sopranos for the profound pleasure they haver brought to opera lovers. But where are their successors, the true talianate liric, and spinto sopranos, are they extinct?

@MattiaCavalli Sono d'accordissimo. Sempre una gra voce e una gran tecnica, ma tutto quel suono, rigoglioso, sano, ma anche forzato e stentoreo, non mi sembrano molto adatti all'espressività di quest'aria. E poi la Freni ha sempre avuto quel vizio di attaccare gli acuti e poi metterli a fuoco che a me proprio non piace.

I heard a few moments of the Met's Adriana on the radio this afternoon with Domingo and Guleghina, including this aria. While meaning no disrespect for Guleghina, listening to her rather routine performance (with somewhat flat top notes) was a CLEAR reminder of what we have been missing since Freni's retirement. Mirella was one of the last of the Golden Age singers . . . beautiful singing and great acting. Thanks, ninetta209 for this post.

I liked Mirella singing this here. It was really beautiful... but you´re right about Callas´s version. Haven´t heard anybody singing it better.

No esta mal....pero!!! Ecuchar y ver a Montserrat Caballe interpretando esta aria, deja a la Freni en un nivel muy por debajo. A mi no me gustan las comparaciones pero...
