this whole session wants releasing properly, there are songs missing, new songs showing up,bits all over the place-(not on the album)etc......release 'time' and 'secret messages' as close to their original concepts as double albums,as possible-could do it as a tribute to kelly!
@no1elofaniknow..... i didn't know that,i was into the 70s stuff......but kelly was still a big part of the e.l.o.sound!bands should stop all this in-fighting,(especially after a member dies) it spoils all the good they have achieved.
@Bikerlady06 Did you know that Jeff Lynne can record in any room in his house? Even his bathroom. So listening to him gargle mouthwash might not be impossible. His whole mansion is one big recording studio. No kidding! He bought it, had the whole place gutted, and rewired for sound.
Jeff lynne could gargle mouthwash and it would still sound fantastic to me. I can honestly say i cannot fault anything ELO has ever done. Its all wonderful to me. I will idolise Jeff Lynne till the day i expire.
I wish this had been released as the lead single from Secret Messages but instead we got Rock'n'Roll Is Crap. This song is so curious and works on so many levels.
Rock n Roll is king is a great little rock n roll song, I love how he sings it and it shows how versatile he is.... It's not your taste maybe, but not crap
Fair comment. I just was so depressed in 1983 that Jet were so unadventurous as to release it. IMO it's a pale imitation of Hold On Tight. But you're right just cos i dont like it dont make it crap i just dont think it's close to their or Jeffs best.
See?! Yet ANOTHER ELO song I've never heard! Damn it! I want a complete catalog of every single ELO song every made. The complete, complete, complete list!
Hard to believe that this classic was a B side to the awful Rock n Roll is king. Hard to believe that the same group could turn out two such different songs.
They did the same with Hold on Tight (AWFUL) the B side When Time Stood Still is a gem.
ELO did some amazing b-sides and some of them were better than their a-side! All the b-sides have been released on cd except Drum Dreams (I think).
Although it wasn't on the LP, Time After Time was released on the casette version of Secret Messages, placed in between Take Me On And On and Four Little Diamonds, and it was placed here on the cd reissue as well (that's why it isn't a bonus track).
In my opinion you are right that it was better than Rock n Roll is King.
Im not at all sure what prompted you to make that rather nasty remark. I was purely making comment on ELO as I have enjoyed their music for many years.
You obviously have reason to have said what you did so maybe you could share it one day.
My parents are deceased so no more comments on that score please.
I very rarely apologize because I think when you say something one should stick by it. In this case I was out of bounds and I apologize. Bless your parents and may they live on in the the afterlife. Have a good life. Ed
I too bought the vinyl way back in the eighties....just starting to update everything onto Cd....long overdue!

@VUPdingCLICK How would that be a tribute to Kelly? Kelly walked out (quit) during the recording of this album. He's only on 4 songs on the album.

@VUPdingCLICK Don't despair. They are no longer in-fighting. ELO disbanded in 1986. And now Jeff Lynne owns 100% of the ELO brand.

I do not remember this song at all and I got the Secret Messages album.

Do you have Secret Messages as a vinyl LP? It wasn't on the vinyl album, only on the cassette and CD issues.
laineycrusoe 1 year ago
That explains it, other than the ELO songs I got in MP3 form, all the ELO music I own is on vinyl.

To:Laineycrusoe, thank you for providing the
"Stereo" version of this LP/CD release. It
sounds awhole lot better being in Stereo than
Monaural sound. Excellent dude! later!

This song is better then "Rock 'n' Roll is King," but I still love that one!

That's exactly what I think too. I love listening to both songs but I think 'Time After Time' is the better of the two
laineycrusoe 3 years ago
This one is a ELO song in its own class.
I mean I don´t know at least at this moment
a ELO track similar to this one.
Or is there ? Anyway I like this.
