My mom didnt breastfeed my older sister and she's failed every class since 6th grade, graduated high school at age 23, is married to an abusive man, works 3 jobs and is very stupid. In the case of the mother of the 8-year-old, it is clearly HER psychological thing that breastfeeding equates to comfort, not the child's. The mother permits it, so the child continues to go along with it. Like someone else said further down in the comments, the benefits of breastfeeding aiding in development are long over at age 8. A "gift" my ass. I think it's clearly a psychological comfort thing for the mom as well. A little messed up.

Why not use a breastpump, someone asks. Think you're missing the point there. Breastfeeding direct from the breast is a natural process when it's mother and child, and it's very clear that the older children have a close, very loving relationship with their mothers through the process of suckling. Which part of what the mothers and older children are saying are you not understanding?
The only thing I find disturbing on this page are the very hostile comments. It's like some people have been conditioned to think that the naked body is 'wrong', it should be covered up. The parents and older children on the programme are relaxed and confident about the naked body and breastfeeding. It's a total contrast to the mindset of some people who post on here.

I appreciate the benefits of breastfeeding babies/children. With that said, I think that if you are a staunch proponent of breastfeeding older children...then why not PUMP and give them the breast milk in a cup or keep in the fridge to drink? That's what we do with cow milk, why not breast milk for children? Same benefits, less stigma.

NO ONE HAS A PROBLEM WITH BREASTFEEDING...its the length of how long these crazy ladies go to. 99% of mom's feed up to 6 months! Its that crazy 1% that over do it...and to the point of 8 or 9. if you don't have a problem with a 2 or 4 year old then why an 8 year old? they are all labelled children not babies! 6 months is best and has been proven 2 years is because well because men no its erotic! @Lemon020202 my mom breastfed me till i was 4, i'm 19, in my second year of med school and engaged. My mom didnt breastfeed my older sister and she's failed every class since 6th grade, graduated high school at age 23, is married to an abusive man, works 3 jobs and is very stupid. What im trying to say is that it doesn't matter. Its the womans' choice. If you want to then do it. These women value their kids health. I'm not saying you don't but they're putting more effort into their children.

In the case of the mother of the 8-year-old, it is clearly HER psychological thing that breastfeeding equates to comfort, not the child's. The mother permits it, so the child continues to go along with it. Like someone else said further down in the comments, the benefits of breastfeeding aiding in development are long over at age 8. A "gift" my ass. I think it's clearly a psychological comfort thing for the mom as well. A little messed up.

i want to share something, i had a friend who breastfeed until her child until 3 plus, i thought it was nasty but i did not say much about it not my business etc, .than I had my baby and i left the room for 3 second to make a bottle and i caught this "friend" with her shirt up with my newborn, NOT friends anymore WTF i do not know if my baby latched to her i doubt it but totally gross and upsetting for me to this day. what was she thinking! why wtf?

Why not use a breastpump, someone asks. Think you're missing the point there. Breastfeeding direct from the breast is a natural process when it's mother and child, and it's very clear that the older children have a close, very loving relationship with their mothers through the process of suckling. Which part of what the mothers and older children are saying are you not understanding?

The only thing I find disturbing on this page are the very hostile comments. It's like some people have been conditioned to think that the naked body is 'wrong', it should be covered up. The parents and older children on the programme are relaxed and confident about the naked body and breastfeeding. It's a total contrast to the mindset of some people who post on here.

I appreciate the benefits of breastfeeding babies/children. With that said, I think that if you are a staunch proponent of breastfeeding older children...then why not PUMP and give them the breast milk in a cup or keep in the fridge to drink? That's what we do with cow milk, why not breast milk for children? Same benefits, less stigma.

The soft cuddling, caressing and the boob, itself, is such a great pleasure-delivery
package for all. Most said that the milk is not a substantial source of nutrition
for the 8 year old, just on occasion, not every 20 minutes like the 4 year olds.

I promise you these girls have a healthier, more natural view of the human body than you do. Their mother's breasts were simply a part of her body that offered comfort - much like being hugged or held, and their mother used them to fulfill the one and only biological reason for the existence of breasts. Do you not realize it's actually unhealthy to look at a woman's breast in any context feel compelled to view it as a primarily sexual object? @J0hnMarston The girl is now weened and doing just fine - in fact, exceptional. I've actually seen the entire documentary, apparently unlike you and everyone else. It was a normal part of her relationship with her mother for her, and that aspect of her attachement evolved as she grew up and the girl no longer breastfeeds. Big deal. It's not a sexual thing. At her age in that context, she couldn't possibly perceive it as such, and I would say the exact same thing if she were a boy.

We retain our reflex to latch and suck until around age eight, which is the age at which biology dictates breastfeeding becomes unnecessary. All research ever done on the matter concludes there is nothing socially or biologically detrimental to breastfeed through the age of seven. No one can offer any real data suggesting this is harmful. It just makes you uncomfortable. Get over it.
