  • fella sorry feelings get hurt.Shurly someone had not really ment to do that.Every one has a chance in theire own art.Yours is grand.

  • Love the color....but man, don't diss the four year old because their parents are being rude.

  • The video isn't actually a put down to four year olds. If anything it's actually a swipe at abstract expressionists.

  • Still, you might want to be more careful with your wording. Though this was posted 3 years ago :D The color really is lovely.

  • Thanks on the color. This painting was actually the start of a career path that lead me to paint more than 50 cat paintings since - and I'm not even that much of a cat lover (no more than your average person that gets a cat for company).

  • Congradulations on your career, though I thought to myself that this painting was lovely enough to buy when I was watching the video...so I am not too surprised about your current position (even without your love of cats).

  • Thanks again - prints of many of my cat paintings are available to buy through my web site (well you have to mention these things LOL). The collector who bought this painting is sitting on a great investment should I ever gain any credibility as an investment artist :-)

  • hahahaha....

  • Ummm... Can I like drop-off my cat for a new paint job???

    :D

  • nice :D

  • well your like old youve had practiced alot 4 year olds ae good for there age gosh!!!!!!!!!!

I love cats try to draw realistic ones that is trashy not good come on your like 40 thats like 36 yearsolder dont get all craney gosh!!!

  • Somehow you've missed the point of this video. It's not about saying I can paint better than a four year old. I'm saying, it's unlikely anyone would mistake a four year old's painting of a cat as being anything other than a four year old's painting of a cat. Unlike abstract expressionism where four year old's HAVE had their work compared and sold along side more practiced and skilled artists.

  • I have a gun,I could let you borrow it. all you need is the bullet and your on your way

  • Why do you care about being better than a 4-year-old. Buddy, they're fucking four! Its not like they're going to be picasso.

Why don't you try comparing yourself to someone a little more advanced than a four year old, then praise yourself.

  • Perhaps you should listen more carefully to the video. I'm not comparing myself to a four year old. I'm comparing the abstract expressionists work (to whom this is a response to) to a four year old and suggesting that a four year old is more likely to produce work that looks like theirs than mine. Ever heard of Marla Olmstead? Her art has been compared to Monet when she was just four.

  • Except these days we have that seven year old...

  • oh boo fucking hoo. you can paint 4 year olds cant. wah.

  • I don't think any 4-year-old can do that.

    ;D

  • Exactly :)

  • love this painting. simple idea, yet very complex. really shows the abstract version of cats YOU (artist) see when YOU look at a cat. incidentally, i love cats. when i look at this painting from my perspective, i can almost see this cat getting up and walking around. i can see the personality of the cat, i imagine she/he has green eyes, in contrast to the red. if someone doesn't like a particular piece of art, they should stop wasting their time on it, and just go off and find one they do like.

  • If you love cats you should check out some of my other videos and my web site - plenty of my cats to enjoy :) My cat paintings are all about the personality traits cats do display so I'm glad that this aspect comes across for you. People sometimes misunderstand my videos making fun of abstraction or minimalism. I'm not against either styles they just lend themselves to humor that many people can relate to because they won't take the time to look deeper into the artist's intention.

  • my paint splatters that look like nothing go for 200 16*16" canvas and up.

  • I'm sure your buyers are very happy too :)

  • When you said "I've known many 4 year olds who can splash paint around on a bit of paper and make it look like nothing," it makes you look ignorant about expressionism. Abstract expression isn't just random splashes of paint on paper, the painting has structure and composition, and there's detail put into it. It's a work of art just like anything else and just because it doesn't represent anything doesn't mean it's just random crap. It makes an artistic statement, it's not just nothing.

  • This video is a response to someone who was putting down the type of art I create in exactly the same way my comment on expressionism does. The fact is I do know of four year old artists that have been elevated to the same level as Pollock by art critics. Do 4 year old's randomly splash paint or do they apply similar consideration?

  • naw but they're four eh, so it probs is just nuhin, dini be getttin all erty eh, this boys is right in everythin he says, he can draw cats and hes better than 4 year olds...done

  • Your cat painting reminds me of Louis Wain's work.

  • Maybe a little. I'm not that familiar with his work so I looked up a video on YouTube just to get an idea. Interesting stuff.

  • You clearly don't understand abstract expressionism i syou say a 4 year can do it.

  • Apparently a four year old can... there is a 4 year old artist in the USA earning US$20,000+ per painting for her abstract expressionist works. (granted she's probably closer to age 6 now but still - she started at age 4). I do understand abstract expressionism. This was just a personal observation based on the artists I'm familiar with.

  • Nice. I'm a bit partial the image at about 32 seconds tho.

  • from a fellow artist,...Thank you. I appreciate this meduim to share our truer medium..paint.

  • shut up tool

  • i like it

  • nice painting, and really good editing of video- liked the process.

  • Thanks :) Thanks for watching too.

  • that is a great video and the picture is great and you made a good point...but just because a 4 year old can paint cats dosnt mean they're very good at it...so i dont get what they were trying to tell you by saying that 4 year olds can draw cats...

  • I think they were trying to imply that drawing a cat is a simple, obvious an emotionless process. Where as abstraction requires much more thought and a closer, emotional connection to the marks made. Which is nonsense. Even subjective art requires a close emotional connection to the marks made...and certainly plenty of thought goes into how I draw a cat. It took years before I came up with a cat face that looked uniquely mine.

  • u seem to hate 4 year olds...lol

  • No...I don't hate four year olds...I just think I can paint cats better than a four year old :)

  • 4 year olds think they no it all now a days, pay no attension to them, when they reach the age of 18 and they want your help to get a car, turn round to them and say you no so much get your own car

  • nice nice nice

  • Oh I thought the whole point of your video was a response to people who were making fun of abstract expressionism, I guess your making fun of abstract expressionism, I don't know its confusing. I still like the painting and especially the time lapse photography. If I were you I wouldn't worry about the art world and its irrational logic. The modern art world is little more then a giant popularity contest, kinda like a huge circle jerk.

  • Not so much making fun of abstract expressionism - just making a point. I'm not losing any sleep over it. This video was just an idea to feature the timelapse photography more than anything. I actually like abstract expressionism when done well - some of the artists get a bit touchy though when you ask about their paintings.

  • Thats a great painting but your fundamental screw up is that you are not an abstract expressionist. Abstract expressionists revolted against the notion that art had to be repersentational, ie look like something from the real world. You would be more aptly classified as an abstract painter as you are taking a repersentational subject matter but adapting it to match your personal beliefs and feelings.

    Again, good painting.

  • Thanks for the comment and compliment. I know I'm not an abstract expressionist...how is that a screw up? My point is that fewer four year olds could paint a representational work like mine than could paint a non representational work such as abstract expressionism. I know of a four year old who commands US$20,000 plus per painting for her abstract expressionist works. Know of any 4 year old, professional, representational artists?

  • That's hilarious. An abstract expressionist talking about what a four year old can paint. They all paint like four year olds.

  • Well I wouldn't say they all paint like four year olds but I've had fewer people tell me "my four year old could paint that". Thanks for the comment.
