I agree it is a factor to consider, but when you look at recently funded surveys to gauge the feeling of the people, loyalty to the union was seen as far more important. It is not all about the economy, and I dont believe SNP have the ability to wave a magic wand at our economic problems if Scotland did leave the union.

@truefalse the survey is a double bladed sword, it also mentions that 58% of Scots wanted to keep Holyrood and Westminster, and also 46% said they would be "very/quite worried" about an independent Scotland's future.
The general consensus is that the majoirty of people surveyed wanted a devolved Scottish Parliament with greater politcal powers. I am a supporter of 'devo max', defence foreign affairs...and poss central bank duties remaining the power of westministers, all else hollyood.

@bramstoker87 They did not lose a war. Scotland and England were independent nations under separate kings until James VI of Scotland inherited the English throne in 1603. However, they did not officially join until 1707, when England and Scotland agreed to unify to retain (the plan was to skip the first 51 people in line for the throne as they were Catholics.) Therefore, the union was chosen, and Scotland got access to the English Colonies in the Americas.

@truefalse Support for independence is only 33%. Last year support for independence was only 23%. Support for independence has never been higher than 35% in all the surveys carried out over the years.
If you read the 2010 Scottish Social Attitudes Survey, the findings discovered that even if independence made scotland better off, support for independence would only rise to 46%. The bottom line is the average Scot wants to remain part of the UK. I rest my case.

@legandrydirk The polls are carried out by Scottish branch of the National Centre for Social Research, in conjunction with the Unit for the Study of Government in Scotland at the University of Edinburgh.
The surveys choose participants randomly. You have a 0.0003% chance of being selected for a survey, however results are statistically significant.

There's no denying that Scotland is in a stronger financial position than the UK, however when you factor in long term infrastructure investment, Scotland still has a net fiscal deficit of 3.8 billion.
