You touch the control pad which supplied along with it, gently touching once will mute and touching and holding will switch power off to speakers, any way it has auto switch off function and it will power off the entire unit if u don't play for a specific amount of time. But if u need to power down the entire unit . Just use your wall switch LOL.

I messed around with these at Target. I was disappointed by the lack of bass, but I couldn't get to the back of the sub to see where the bass dial was at either. It could have been all the way down. Otherwise, great quality sound. It's full and rich. It is a little pricy, though.

They are truly amazing speakers...I, too, have them. Extremely sturdy (metal, not plastic thank you very much) and, assuming you're not TRYING to blow them out or trash the system, it should last you a lifetime.

My bose companion 3 speakers rock my whole downstairs...probably the best computer speakers I have ever owned. They just won't die. Now I must get the companion 5 set. Bose is simply the best.

Some of you are right there are better speakers out there than bose, and I use to own a set, but it also use to take up my whole living room, for the quality you get from bose and for the size of speaker they are you can not complain! I sold my bulky system and now have room for my new bose system two bookshelves and a papason chair, also have a open rack now for another gaming system! I also have a pair of the companion 3's as well and they sound nice!
good point, however I think that most of the reasons top end cars use bose sound systems are because they are well known, "popular" if you like. Paying a premium for the brand in my opinion. I have a bose lifestyle system and i am more than happy with it however after hearing the system from the brand KEF, i feel that bose could do more (most bose systems lack the tweeter range).

Anyway, the sound system in a car is a very low-priority for car companies. Bose most likely wants their speakers in those cars to make their speakers look really good. But, the speakers in them are still cheaply made. A decent aftermarket system would blow away ANY car Bose system.
Bose is REALLY good at marketing. They'll do anything to make people think their speakers are good.
@falkenlaser I do like the sound quality of most Bose equipment I have heard, but DAMN do the prices have to be so artificially high? If they didn't try to pretend to be something they weren't they would get more respect from haters (although their advertising gets them a lot of respect anyway). They are advertised as some of the best speakers in the world, but to use them as a reference for mastering audio in a recording studio would be just plain stupid.
you can HEAR that bose isnt up to the audiophile job. there's a lack of definition, there are emphasized and weak frequencies in the freq range. put a bose system of, let's say 2k, to play some demanding music such as classical, next to a 2k system of Totem acoustic or Audio Spectrum or even a more popular Monitor Audio set. you'll notice a big difference in audio quality. Fe. after all that "research" they should know that tweeters are needed and to be placed ABOVE the midwoofer and not besides
Bose is "recognized" by many to be among the best because Bose is sure to market themselves to seem like one. They are seen as a sign of luxury, although they are the complete opposite with their cheap materials and sub par quality sound.
Very few audiophile quality manufacturers actually make car speakers anyway. since they would have to be specifically made for each car model to provide good accuracy. This would add thousands to the price of a vehicle so don't bother bringing up the subject.
Bose is NOT a subject in any quality audio equipment discussion on anywhere on the internet, except Bose forums. Do you even know what an audiophile is?

They are truly amazing speakers...I, too, have them. Extremely sturdy (metal, not plastic thank you very much) and, assuming you're not TRYING to blow them out or trash the system, it should last you a lifetime.

I agree, a logitech Z2300 which is far less will drown these speakers out and still have room for more volume.
Bose is all about marketing and they have achieved this to perfection.
It's sometimes not the fault of the purchaser, they have just been sucked into the branding.

I would be amazed at how assy they sound compared to my Edirol MA-15Ds.
2.1 is a euphemism for 1.5 (two tweeters but only 1 woofer). Get yourself real 2 way speakers in wooden cabinets or get out tbh.

I will admit the Edirols are pretty ugly though (before someone else goes to the trouble of pointing that out) But none of my equipment matches in appearance anyway, I just buy the best quality stuff in my price range. As long as it sounds good it could have a picture of Hitler on the front and I wouldn't care (actually I'd be somewhat intrigued)

Performance is not measured in Watts. My $3000 studio monitors are 30W each. I somewhat doubt this thing will out-perform them.

Some of you are right there are better speakers out there than bose, and I use to own a set, but it also use to take up my whole living room, for the quality you get from bose and for the size of speaker they are you can not complain! I sold my bulky system and now have room for my new bose system two bookshelves and a papason chair, also have a open rack now for another gaming system! I also have a pair of the companion 3's as well and they sound nice!

good point, however I think that most of the reasons top end cars use bose sound systems are because they are well known, "popular" if you like. Paying a premium for the brand in my opinion. I have a bose lifestyle system and i am more than happy with it however after hearing the system from the brand KEF, i feel that bose could do more (most bose systems lack the tweeter range).

Check out my videos. Two of them show what you can get for the price of the Bose Lifestyle 48 (and blows it away).
Anyway, the sound system in a car is a very low-priority for car companies. Bose most likely wants their speakers in those cars to make their speakers look really good. But, the speakers in them are still cheaply made. A decent aftermarket system would blow away ANY car Bose system.
Bose is REALLY good at marketing. They'll do anything to make people think their speakers are good.

@falkenlaser I do like the sound quality of most Bose equipment I have heard, but DAMN do the prices have to be so artificially high? If they didn't try to pretend to be something they weren't they would get more respect from haters (although their advertising gets them a lot of respect anyway). They are advertised as some of the best speakers in the world, but to use them as a reference for mastering audio in a recording studio would be just plain stupid.

you can HEAR that bose isnt up to the audiophile job. there's a lack of definition, there are emphasized and weak frequencies in the freq range. put a bose system of, let's say 2k, to play some demanding music such as classical, next to a 2k system of Totem acoustic or Audio Spectrum or even a more popular Monitor Audio set. you'll notice a big difference in audio quality. Fe. after all that "research" they should know that tweeters are needed and to be placed ABOVE the midwoofer and not besides

Bose is "recognized" by many to be among the best because Bose is sure to market themselves to seem like one. They are seen as a sign of luxury, although they are the complete opposite with their cheap materials and sub par quality sound.
Very few audiophile quality manufacturers actually make car speakers anyway. since they would have to be specifically made for each car model to provide good accuracy. This would add thousands to the price of a vehicle so don't bother bringing up the subject.

The best speakers Ive ever heard are made by Krell. B&W also make great speakers. The Best of the Best award goes to Dynaudio Confidence C4's. unbelievable sound quality.
