  • Yeah @4:39 was funny! Its comical and cute how her face frowns up. You can tell she's thinking in her head "HELL NAW I DON'T WANT HIS FAT ASS" LOL!

  • I love the face she makes at 4:39, pointing to Fatty. Funny!

  • Mabel was a true talent. Thanks for posting this!

  • Very pleasant and a compliment to my great-aunt Mabel...the music is an interesting choice and sets a particular ambiance but can distract from the film itself at times. It is a good try at being different in projecting the image. The music as beautiful or likeable as it is however is not important ..the Image is. Thank you and well done for your honestly kind effort on behalf of Mabel Normand. I personally appreciate it. Stephen Normand ~

  • Mabel set many a hearts aflame in Hollywood...she was a talented star with a tortured soul. Roscoe Arbunckle's name was ruined and prejudiced due to the untimely death of Virginia Rappe , most people don't know that he is partly responsible for the careers of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplan and Bob Hope. He was a huge star in his day.

What is the piece of music that runs through 4:09-5:08 ?

  • @STEVE12741 The music is an edited piece from Michael Nyman's 'Wedding Tango'.

  • @basilnelson Thanks for the timely response and the excellent video. That piece of music is enchanting and transcendent. Not like most of the one dimensional music today that is aurally offensive. Thanks -Steve

  • Such a well put together vid short. Great work Basil.

  • @fisten1954 Thank you. Your comment is much appreciated.

  • I'd known of Mable Normand for a while cause of various Keystone videos I've seen but due to their terrible quality it was difficult to make out her appearance.

It was only when I saw decent "clean" Keystone videos, as well as photographs, of Normand then I realized how really pretty she was.

It's terrible she couldn't break herself from the alcohol and cocaine; she may have lived much longer and become as well known a legend as Gish, Pickford and the other early silent stars.

  • great soundtrack basil

is the one w/ horns, strings, accordeon from an italian film, sounds familiar

  • @yellowjacketpollen The title of that particular piece is 'The Second Waltz' played by James Last and his Orchestra. Not sure if it was featured in a film. BAZ

  • @basilnelson thanks

  • shostakovich is the 2nd waltz composer -- for those like me who didn't know

  • She was a little cutie. Thumbs up!

  • why is Mabel called Madcap?

  • @luvebug21 She was one of the leading female exponents of slaptick comedy during the silent era. Check out her fan site 'Madcap Mabel'. BAZ
