  • hmm odd my trusty 1090T at 3.6ghz pairing off with a 7970 beats the I7-2600K rig at 3dmark 11 and im using the basic edition ;)

  • i spent, probably hundreds of hours in my life over clocking computers since the 90s and now its just click and OC. i'm looking to upgrade, and now it so easy to overclock it not exiting anymore. im currently on a 1366 i7 920/2.66ghz overclocked to 4.2ghz on air 100% stable, and a hd5990 duel GPU overclocked to 855mhz x2 / mem @1290. it took so much time and research and many nights after work. i'm really hopping that the 2700k can get allot more.

  • you can run the i5 at around 4.6Ghz on air

  • Got my 2600k at 4.5ghz doesn't go above 65c with OCCT.

  • i want your job

  • god you sound british.

  • tom can i get a shirt like that one please?

  • Comment removed

  • Did the same prime 95 run for 15 minutes with 22ºC room temp and 26ºC case temp, and it didn´t exceed 77ºC. I believe with 20ºC the CPU will stick @ 75ºC. Maybe the AS5 it´s better now, because of curing time.

  • I've got it at 4.2GHZ!

  • woo im going to run tec on my old 920 guess i should get one of these or the x79 later lol

  • I have 4.5 ghz @ 1.28v Load in prime95. I don´t push it further because i get 78ºC in Prime95 on the 3rd core with 20ºC room temp and 25ºC case temp. The cooler is a Rev.A Thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme with LGA 1555/6 adaptor. Are this temps good or they are high? Need advise here. Note: the AS5 is still curing for about 24h.

  • @rcarkk get a better cooler and some proper thermal paste

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms So you say the Thermalright Ultra 120 XT with 2 fans, and Artic Silver 5 thermal grease it´s not enough for this CPU?

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Hi Tom, polite question. Why don't you like AS5? I've heard you mentioning it a few times. I've checked a lot of recent roundup tests and it always ended up in the top, max 1'C hotter than the best product. Old doesn't always mean bad;-) I'm aware of the conductivity of silver. But performance wise I think it is still a great paste...

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Just curious, what is your favorite thermal paste (please don't say AC diamond 7 i can't find any!)

  • @FatFuckRecherche

thats because that is from Innovation Cooling not Arctic Cooling, which btw has good stuff

  • @PremchandNL LOL typo sorry i did search for IC

  • @FatFuckRecherche

lol happens to all of us. But then you need to work on your searching skill cause i found some in like 10 secs. You profile says you in canada and luck would have it NCIX sells them ill PM you a direct like if you like. (its $18.99 CAD for unknown amount )

  • @FatFuckRecherche

hahahah typo right there lol its "direct link" duh!

  • @rcarkk i have 5ghz at 1.425v 28c idle and 62c max with cooler master hyper 212 evo

  • @giske87 Did you run Prime 95 with Small FFTS torture test? That´s the hardest test of prime 95. If i make a render in V-Ray or anytihing else that pushes the CPU @ 100%, the temps don´t go beyond 65ºC. Only on this prime 95 test i saw 78ºC on the 3rd core.

  • @giske87 By the way. 1.425v will damage your CPU. 1.35v should be the limit for daily use.

  • @rcarkk you r wrong it will not hurt my chip. it runs cool and is barely in the high range in my bios newegg has a vid of them running it at 5.2 at 1.5v on a lesser cooler than what im using same board and everything smart guy

  • @giske87 It doesn't matter how cool it runs, if your cpu is getting too much voltage, it's still going to damage it.

  • @giske87 And it's not something you notice straight away, it just shortens the life span of the chip.

  • 2600K is an amazing processor. Just bumped mine up to 4.5ghz at 1.338 volts full load in LinX. 78c is my highest temp recorded with my newly installed 212 EVO & AS5 which hasn't even cured! The level of performance is out of this world, and I like how easy intel has made it. It really says a lot for their product.

  • 2600k or wait till ivy bridge?

  • @IDixuu Personally, i'm going to wait, seeing as it's just on the figurative horizon.

  • @HippehMac Yeah.. they come out in april dont they?

  • @IDixuu Well, it's all Chinese' Whispers at the moment, but that's around the time that they're expected to be released. I'm more than happy with the power of the 2600k etc. - i'm far more interested in the improved temps that should be found with the die shrink.

  • @HippehMac if i bought the 2600k now would i need to buy a new motherboard for the ivy bridge or are there ivy bridge+sandy bridge compatible boards?

  • @WoodiesHoodies As far as I know, Ivy Bridge will be released on LGA1155, the same as the existing 2600k. Although new chipsets may very well be brought out, I imagine that it would be backwards compatible. If anyone else wants to help answer this, please feel free!

  • So if I get a i5-2500K what motherboard do I need to overclock ?

  • I have 2500k at 5Ghz rock solid stable with Intel Burn Test AVX version at Idle 1.4v and load of 1.39v

  • got mine to 5.1ghz eazzy

  • i was wondering should i get the bulldozer or the i7 for gaming?

  • @halo3Ftw1

    i7 2600K dominates the Bulldozer :D

  • hey man, i have 4.7ghz at 1.365v stable on a 2600k. when i tried 4.8ghz at 1.37v, i ran prime95 for a good 5 hours and no problems. so i was just doing some random stuff, listening to music, browsing the web, when i just got a bsod. i have since put it back down to 4.7, but could you please help me determine the issue? some people say i need to do something with my ram timings, and it looks really complicated. thanks (:

  • @SPAZZY1912 hate to be harsh dude but Im not a mind reader & Ive not got a scooby about any of your rig or settings etc. Ram does need to be set manually and you also need to remember some cpu's wont go past 4.6 even. So youll have to put the time in testing & tweaking your rig to see what it has in it. Its worth taking a look around forums and guides for some assistance. Ive really not got the time to walk everyone through it & fault find for them so sadly Ive had to decide not to do it at all

  • @SPAZZY1912 How can you start overclocking without even knowing about RAM timings?

You should have read everything about that stuff before even trying.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms I have the Hyper 212+ with only the one fan. The voltages are around 1.385 i believe. I never see the temps get any where near that tho when playing games, even extensivley. I was more just wondering if those are high temps for the program and the fan (Which i did forget to mention, sorry).

  • is the better then my 980x?????

  • @Antonio001z No

  • @SantiSwaqq ok thanks . .makes me feel better :)

  • dear tom, i want a motherboard for my i5 2500k and i want to oc it to a stable 4.5ghz also i want a future crossfire possibility for my 6950 2gb. also good onboard audio is nice. i use a coolermaster v6gt cooler. What would you recommend? ( around 150 euros)

  • @dudedude873 Look at the Gigabyte Z68 UD3P but imho onboard audio is never good. Overclocking will come down to your abilities and your cpu though.

  • @dudedude873 Running the i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz stable at the moment on Asus P8P67 evo motherboard. Really good Motherboard for the price.

  • @dudedude873 hey I just got i5 2500k with asrock z68 motherboard you can overclock it really well I have it up to 4.4ghz but it is stable at 4.6ghz its bit cheaper than gigabyte but it is a good board oh btw use a good cooler I use h70

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms I'm getting a max temp of 80C out my chip at 4.6 from intel burn test 2.53. Should I be worried? Or is that a good temperature from that program? Also according to Hard Monitor the CPU package is what gets up to 80c but all the other cores never reach 78, so what is the difference between that? Thanks in advance.

  • @CAVU101 80c is the upper end of temps tbh dude. Clock speed means nothing VOLTAGE does. You also didnt say what CPU cooler you are using? Ill just go with maybe you should upgrade your CPU cooler dude.

  • Overclock it with full ram slots more challenging :)

  • Could you make a OC video for a 2700k at the highest clock it can for 24/7 use, and the lowest vcore for the OC?

  • I have been messing around with my 2600k and so far I've only gone to 5GHz with 1.47v on the core and a Cooler Master GT cooler and the max I get over all cores is around 70C. I am using the Asus Maximus IV Extreme-Z. Super easy and i can probably go higher just no need. Did it mainly for fun and bragging amongst friends.

  • Thumbs up! if you like saying "I got me an i7" ;)

  • i have my intel i5 2500k @ 4 ghz with the stock cooler, am i stressing my cpu?

  • @karadanianoI Nope, your good even with the volts at auto. The temps while stress testing and using the stock cooler will be quite toasty though. I have a 2500k at work overclocked to 4ghz using a stock cooler. Hit's 89-90c using LinX. Rock solid though!

  • @neilaydlett 89-90?

    thats to much heat!

  • @karadanianoI not for 1.22 volts.

  • can i use a 2600k 1155 in a asus maximus 3 gene motherboard

  • @PcTwEekers Go to google type in your motherboard followed by cpu support and it will give you a list!

  • How awesome am I, i Bought an Asus P8Z68-V Pro, I5-2500K, Corsair 650TW Power supply, 8GB Corsair RAM, Dark Rock pro CPU cooler, *cough* Antec 300 case *cough* which is all dandy and what not; but here's the epic moment, the moment of absolute perfection.. I topped it off with a HD3650.....lol * face-palm*.. also bought a HD5450 but that was junk so I left it in the box in a corner to be found by future generations.. Anyone got any ideas what graphics card I should be getting? (For Gaming)

  • @TheDarkann If money is tight I say get a GTX 460 great cards and very cheap now, if you have 150/160 get a nice GTX 560ti which is the same price as a Radeon 6870 and preforms better if you have 200 get a Radeon 6950 or a GTX 560ti 448 but that will be an extra £30 and then I would say your better off just going that bot extra and getting a full fledged GTX 570 :) hope that helps a bit (Of course to save some money you could all-ways buy a second hand graphics card off Ebay)

  • @112bhoy does the 6950 fit inside an antec 300?

  • BTW, don't need to stress CPU to get to max multy, just turn off all saving features. .. don't know, maybe board didn't support that at the time of the making of the video.

  • Yeah, great CPU. Just takes every thing what i've throw at it, but it took all the fun from over-clocking and BIOS tweaking. all takes like 30min. same go's for 2011.. hope intel will change that.

One question tho, why do you use physx in vantage? That's not real CPU score. nearly everything is done by GPU in 4.th test. So CPU score is very dependent on GPU, and that doesn't sound's right doez it?

    Hope you reply.

Keep up the good work! =P

  • I find when I up and change all the other stuff on the board besides Vcore my PC is highly unstable, crashes at random times even at stock speeds and volts.. leave PC on 4.9GHz 1.5V.. sleep wake up.. dont turn pc off.. rock solid, messing with the other settings I think makes the cycle of those parts on the motherboard irratic like having an air bubble in ur radiator.. eventually it will go away.. then the pocket is gone, that's what I think is happening here

  • @AntDX316 1.5v is too much vcore for 24/7 dude

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms I'm 30c idle and 61c load, water cooling : )

  • @AntDX316 temos mean nothing mate. Its the volts that are the problem. Its slowly killing that CPU

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms 1.52V for the 2600K is max according to intel

  • @AntDX316 I believe the 1.52V figure is Max VID given by Intel spec sheets for a 2600K. Also, I think VID voltage to start CPU operations; Vcore is to maintain CPU operations, so they will be different recommended values anyway.

AFAIK, no one has a definate answer for max safe voltages but most prefer around 1.4V tops. Of course, you'll never get a definative number as every cpu has different silicon qualities... How long is a piece of string?

Just my thoughts. Feel free to differ.

  • @Fuzzlogical my PC bsods on 5ghz at random times.. 4.9ghz is rock solid for weeks

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms I'm stable at 5ghz @4.56v. I bought a binned chip though.

  • Hey Tom, do you have any experience with the EVGA Z68 FTW?

  • Were you wacking off during the benchmarks?

  • So this is better then the i7 970?

  • @The1cristi - Yes. Sandy Bridge destroys everything in its path.

  • thanks Dex1n for your advice I already went with the ASROCK 7 it was on sale this weekend 30 bucks cheaper than the ASUS and with more sata's and 3 way cross or sli I went a head with it don't worry when it comes in if I have any problems its going back thanks agian

  • is the difference between 2500k and 2600k big? like when doing gaming and just doing normal stuff... is the difference noticeable?

  • @don2xify No it isn't. Unless you do video encoding and use multithreaded applications you don't notice the difference. For gaming and normal using they perform the same.

  • I'm really trying to decide between a ASROCK Z68 Extreme7 Gen3 or the Asus P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3 their the same price the Asrock 7 has more pci lanes and satas which I like the Asus has Bluetooth wireless and better power Design same warranty length Asus does have advanced rma if needed but I am having really hard time deciding any advice

  • @MrBatman2383 Asus hands down imo.

  • Great video, but a bit too long.

  • on 3DMark11 my 570 and 2600k give me 6550 P-Score :D

    4.5ghz and 850mhz.

    BOW TO ME >: 3

  • @YonOtto my 2600k @ 4.5 3DMark11 hd6870x2 P8437 score!

  • Sounds about right, its a dual GPU card afterall and one 6870 gets around 4300 on 3DMark11. I posted my 570 score because I havent seen anyone get a score like mine, they seem to be getting 5700 - 5900 and the 580 gets around 6200.

  • @YonOtto - He said his 570 was not overclocked. That would surely put his score over 6k.

  • I currently have an I5 2500k but I can still switch it out for an i7. For heavy gaming and some video encoding would you recommend switching ?

  • @jeremywusoccer At max there is like 4 to 6 FPS average difference in gaming. Getting better graphics card gives much more FPS. For video encoding i7 2600K is better, but in gaming there's hardly any difference.

  • So I've never overclocked an Intel processor before. I have overclocked AMD though. Is there really any performance difference between upping the base clock and just upping the multiplier? I don't really understand what all the fuss is about.

  • @Vortex1988 Intel-platform-wise I prefer higher multiplier, since I can ease up on the FSB, which in return lets me use lower NB/FSB/VTT voltages which results in lower temperatures, less instability and more durability under extreme stress conditions , but higher FSB can result in small performance increase

  • i turn my CPU 3.8 GHZ to 8 GHZ and then i heard my computer shouting

  • I like that it's making overclocking easier for people, although I have no need for that...

What I'm scared of is if it starts to become so easy that eventually no one will bother with BIOS overclocking.....

  • wooohoooo :) :) i have the same lcd...samsung syncmaster :) :)

  • I love this CPU! ! !

Even at stock it's so fast. I mean, 3.4Ghz! WoW... that's higher than 24/7 OC I used on my Q8400... and this is the STOCK speed! lol

I plan to reach out and touch 5Ghz here soon, not 24/7 ofc... but to get my validation for the 5Ghz Club on OCN and maybe some benchmarks ^_^

  • i think its kinda sad that the overclocking on sandy bridge is so eazy =(

i was just starting to enjoy overclocking and modding (liquid cooling, etc) more than playing games on the machine when its finished =(

the building and testing is half the fun right? =(

    (the performance is massive though)

  • anybody think a gigabyte z68x-ud4-b3 will be a good pairing for this cpu? oreding my new parts 2moro mornin n cant wait to get me new rig goin! me q6600 is too long in the tooth!

  • youre smart as fuck,

  • Hey need a lil help what do you think of the Asrock brand mobo Trustworthy?

  • 800 on graphic cards.

  • Ok guys! Need some well advice on graphic cards, building my 1st pc, atm I just orderd Intel 2600k,g1 sniper 2, coolmaster cm690 nivida 2,corsair vengeance 8gb ddr3 1866mhz,most I wanna spend is 800gbp, looking for a sli setup. Any adice and your choices ! Oh and thanks Tom for all your great videos great advice keep it up! Have watched neally every video lmao. All things orderd from overclockers today :)

  • Can i overclock the Intel i7 2600K processor to 4.5Ghz using the stock fan included?

  • I have a question when it comes to this CPU and motherboards. Because if i buy this CPU with a 1155 motherboard, am i able change to a 990x then? Or will i need a new motherboard with another socket?

  • @gaffatape98 The 2600K is *like u said* running off of a 1155 socket, while a 990x is running off of a 1366 socket, so yes, you will need to buy a new motherboard that supports 1366 socket

  • hyper threading cheat of intel over amd cpus haha. that technology is amazing :)

  • hello, im thinking about upgrading my computer but in terms of fps in games what is better for me to get the i7 2600k (Clocking it at about 4.7ghz) or and hd 6970? my pc specs are intel core 2 quad, 6gb ddr2, 1000w Pw suppy, Sapphire HD 5770 1gb GDDR5. ??

  • I am new to this but have a question regarding RAM and this processor. Intel lists DDR3-1066/1333 RAM for this processor. Does that imply that the processor will only recognize and utilize up to 1333MHz RAM right out of the box. Does overclocking alter the processors ability to use faster RAM? Sorry if this is a basic question but you seem to really understand this. Thanks

    KSQ

  • @KSQPhotography it will set to 1333 if availble out of the box. You only have to change settings in the bios for 1600 - 1866 - and 2133 should you wish to buy faster speeds. Just make sure you are happy with adjusting things in the bios. There are plenty of guides on the net though :)

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Hey dude, Im going to be getting the Gigabyte G1.ASSASSIN mobo....and i was wondering if u think i should be using the 980? or the 990?... And if either one, Do u have a Video or can u tell me how to OC it to around 4.2 or 4.4 Ghz? =]

    Please overlook this =/

  • @Chaotic6666 970 is actually where the smart money is. but bare in mind a 2600K is quicker. As for overclocking it 1366 isnt easy, so get an 1155 unless you are willing to put the time in to learn it all. As for me telling you, it aint gunna happen sorry I just dont have the time.

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Haha all good =), OH But in the Long Run... Is the 990x worth it?

  • @Chaotic6666 If you ask me, no it isn't. At start of next year if I remember right new socket comes and replaces LGA 1366. So not really wise to spend so much money on some CPU which is going to get "outdated" in about half year or so. On my opinion go for i7 2600K, especially when it seems you're new to overclocking. And if you're using it mostly for gaming, i7 2600K is more than enough. Also the i5 2500K is a very nice chip as well... You don't need to pay so much to get great performance CPU.

  • hey. i have a core i7 2600k @ stock speed(3.4) ghz and i use a stock cooler im a bit worried buecause i dont know what is the max temperature for my CPU when i play dirt 3 the temp is over 70 ~(74C) is that ok or not? please answer because i dont want to burn my CPU

  • @opilako thats the type of temps Id expect for overclocked cpu's. Its ok dude and if you are happy to leave it at stock then cool but I always advise people to buy an aftermarket cooler.

  • @opilako dont know if you've looked else were but i recommend coolmaster as a great brand for fans

  • @un7ucky i already got coolermaster V6GT but thanks anyway ;)

  • @opilako :D

  • @opilako invest 30 dollars in a coolermaster hyper 212 plus and your temps will PLUMMET. i did a small review of it on my channel here watch?v=DX1PxVE4s7c (not a spam link, I promise)

  • hey m8 great uploads! i am building a new system and i cant spend to much on a motherboard. Do you know how good the ASRock Z68 pro3 Performces?

    much appreciated with regards

  • What would be a suitable speed to over-clock to, if you plan on using lets say, 24/7?

  • @Ident1ty08 i would say about 4,5 ghz but it depends on the tempertures too : )

  • @Greek7Dude Thanks!

  • @Ident1ty08 np : )

  • lagg aha

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms You have great in depth reviews and your very helpful all I ask is that you get a microphone for better audio or some way to enhance the audio. You sound kind of muffled.

  • 'absolutely MIND-BENDING!' :P

  • Same monitor, but totally not the same computer lol. (Mine sucks DX)..

  • will these components work together?

    i7 2600k

    1x HD 6990

    8 gb dual channel 1333mhz ram ddr3

    875w power supply

  • @spudlymac

get a 950 watt psu that 6990 will eat that 875 psu

  • @sultankraver thanks but i got a gtx 590 plus a 1200w psu.

  • @spudlymac

sweet bro have fun pwning with your new GFX card!

  • @sultankraver i will thanks!

  • im kinda noob but this is what im getting tell me what i need or your thoughts

    2600k

    8gb ddr3

    h67

    60gb ssd

    1gb hd6790??

im getting it built, will the h67 be sufficient enough?

  • @mduong2 870w psu also

  • @mduong2 H67 doesnt allow overclocking so its just pointless. Get Z68

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms

hi yeah thanks read abit more final list is

    2600K

    12gb ddr3

    z68

    hd6770

    60gb ssd

    2tb hdd

    is tht good?

  • @mduong2 12GB is a tripple kit, you need a dual channel kit for that so 4 - 8 GB - the 6770 is also a very basic card. Really dont see the point in having that with a 2600k and so much ram. Your budget is getting very badly allocated imho

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms ok so can you tell me what to get then with a budget of 1.2k are u saying i should put more into the graphics card? and get 8gb of ram instead

  • @mduong2 best thing you can do is go to my forums dude but 8gb, z68, 2600k, gtx570 and a 120gb ssd is the way Id go

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms ok thanks for your help

  • @TimeToLiveCustoms Hey, that's almost exatcly the rig I got 2 days ago :D

Glad we agreed! What's the z68? mobo? (I'm quite new to this stuff)

  • @mduong2 i got 2600k, 2x 4bg, 580gtx, z68, 60gb sdd and 1tb hdd. its a little over 1.2k buts its a good one.

  • Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz

    Noctua NH-D14 120mm & 140mm SSO CPU Cooler

    MSI P67A-G45 (B3) LGA 1155

    CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB Low Profile

MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) N560GTX-TI Twin Frozr II/OC Video Card

Seagate Barracuda XT 2TB 3.5" SSD

Do you know what PSU I should use for overclocking my CPU to 4.7GHz? I don't know how many watts my PSU should have.

  • @FormulaClutchz 650w quality psu would be fine. Obviously thats if that specific cpu will do 4.7ghz. Remember the silicone lottery and all.

  • Getting one!

  • im a littlebit sad because my dad bought me i72600 not i72600k ,:(

  • @Marens777 - don't be m8, you've got a very fast cpu there, even at stock clocks it should suit you well for a few years, :)

  • @Marens777 Yea same. I didn't do enough research.

I thought that the k version was just 'HD 3000; graphics so I thought I don't need it.

But it didn't mention about unlocked core on the intel website.

It's really misleading and I'm pissed because I can't do much with the non k version and i5-2500k is better than i7-2600.

I'll switch to AMD soon this piece of shit intel is pissing me off.

  • @Marens777 oh well, the i7 2600 is exactly the same except the 2600k, is easier to overclock!

    Dont worry dude!

  • @tino730 correction 2600 doesnt oveclock its stock and fully locked

  • @tino730

the 2600 and 2600k are little different ;)

    e.g. the 2600 have only a HD2000 GPU and the 2600k have a HD3000 GPU ;)

  • @Blutengel2310 Wrong, both have HD3000!

  • @tino730

    they have?

hm, i think intel is stupid, the wrote on his site, that the 2600 has a HD2000 and the 2600K have a HD3000....damn liars, shame on you intel.

    ark.intel.com/products/52213/Intel-Core-i7-2600-Processor-%288M-Cache-3_40-GHz%29

  • @tino730 OH MY GOD, I WAS WRONG LOL!

  • @tino730

Late, but not close, the Multiplier isn't unlocked on Non-K versions.

  • @Mkilbride2599 That's what I meant!

  • @tino730 "harder

  • @Marens777 be thankful that you didn't get the i5 2500 or i3 2100

  • @Marens777

  • Just wondering if anyone can answer this, how does this compare to the AMD 1100T X6 black edition? I'm curious primarily because I am building a PC and cannot any consistent specs for either. Any help would be much appreciated, and please no fan-boyism.
