when we lived in CT. our 68lb Bull Terrier got into it with one. he killed it but these things are vicious,if it was a smaller dog it would have really had it's hands full.
there have been numberous sightings in new england, im from vermont and fisher cats are everywere i wouldnt have to sit on my porch for and 30 minutes to see one pass by
My dad just today saw one crossing the road into our yard. I dont know wat to do, Im scared. I have a dog thats really old, and im afraid he'll get killed.
We have a puppy, he's 13 weeks and is a Australian Sheppard/mix (possibly golden Colly) I live in Vermont and there are a lot of Fisher cats that live near by in our woods. Are Fisher cats a threat? If so, how can we keep them away?
Why yes they are. I live in Vermont and two of my mom's cats have been nabbed by fisher cats. One recently and one a couple of years ago. The one this time didn't come back. The other came back badly hurt. And her cats weren't little. Probably 15lb cats.
To a puppy, yes, the fisher cat is a serious threat. A full grown shepherd will be able to hold its own, however I would avoid any conflict with the fisher. I have a friend who has a bull terrier which spotted a fisher in the yard and out of instinct charged it. A fight ensued, the fisher was killed, but dog sustained some minor injuries, mainly to the face.
They will kill full grown rottweilers if they get the jump on one. Keep your puppy inside until he is big enough to defend himself. They will attack small children, too.

Definately a threat. I lived in New Hampshire and two of our cats were killed by fisher cats, nasty creatures!
