@shazzer52762 no mate betaCAM the pro version of the beta tapes the industry standard for many years, used the same shape cassette as a betaMAX but played the tape i think 6 times faster to get broadcast quality
we had a 3 machine site with one recorder and two players, one player capable of slomo, a component cox mixer with only 4 inputs lol, pretty basic stuff! and a sony bve800(i think?!!>) edit controller lol a beast of a machine but fast once you got used to it.
saw them live in Paradiso amsterdam when this album came out. Very funny First part they PLAYBACKED Zamia. I think Greame was trying to look like a cello-player but actually looked more like a lumberjack lol The second half they pulled out the sinths, made total amok of the stage, put their wooden embellishments to fire, rolled their iron tons of stage between the audience, got into a fight with security, where thrown back onto stage (with their tons) left everybody in confusion very worthwhile!
What a pioneering act. Love their sound and other new and old alternative acts like Nine Inch Nails, Gary Numan, Ministry,Cabaret Voltaire, KMDFM, Throbbing Gristle, Saul Williams, AllFlaws

Such genius behind these dark sound scapes. SPK truly stand alone as definitive industrial pioneers! ..It's a shame that the genre is now and may forever only be overshadowed and recognized by the likes of Trent Reznor. Not a diss against Trent, because I think Nine Inch Nails are a great band - I would not have discovered SPK or Graeme Revell's work had it not been for my boyhood years in the 90's listening to Nine Inch Nails!)...but few are likely to stumble upon SPK, sadly.

I made this video in 1985 I think, ha ha so long ago good to see its still kicking around. Those interested might like to know it was made in a 3 machine standard betacam suite. This was way before computer effects, the last image melt I havent seen done on a computer.

Greame, if youre reading this, I still want a copy of Lichenschri!
@brucetheviking thats really awesome, that video is very haunting! good job! I have posted this on Facebook a few times to let the genius of Spk be known
This song reminds me on one scene of 2010: Space Odyssey Two when the people in space ship Leonov are sending space probe to fly over Europa..Jupiter's Moon...Great song, great band..Long Live SPK....
in earlier days i prefered the punk-related stuff of spk ( great though ) but this track has touched my soul, the other ones were for the mind. i love it the same as submarine-war, avian flu or anti-semitism.
Graeme Revell of the lat, great SPK (Sozialistisches Patienten-Kontroll, Surgical Penis Klinik, Seppuku...) has made tons of movie soundtracks for the past 20 years or so. Always splendid, contrary to the movies...

Oh my word! i've just checked out the comments on this, and no-one seems to be aware that this band (minus the female singer) released a skull shattering industrial noise album in 1981 called 'Infomation overload unit'
The personnel changes between "Information Overlord Unit" and "In Flagrante Delicto" were a bit more drastic then just the addition of a singer.
And no, you are not special in knowing "Information Overload Unit". Some people even remember "Leichenschrei" and all the stuff that was later compiled on "Auto Da Fe". In my opinion, your post is irrelevant to almost everyone except your own ego.
I also have leichenchrei> my point was, they were great up until 1982,when they were throbbing gristle copycats. Yes! I was genuinley baffled because SPK are not well known outside of the industrial genre. But suggesting people are ignorant??? NO! It had'nt crossed my mind, but it has clearly crossed your mind. Thankfully i don't think like you. I have a little more respect for people than you.

It doesn't cross your mind that your comment may suggest that you think people are ignorant yet you do have more respect for people than someone who's mind it has crossed that you are telling people they're ignorant? Following that logic (as an extreme example) a muderer who denies that he's a murderer is a better human being than than people calling him a murder. I've had enough now. Life's too short.
By saying that i'am suggesting people are ignorant, by definition it is you who is suggesting they're ignorant,(not me) i'am merely pointing that out to you. As for your Logic example-You should have said that the murderer is telling a person accusing him of murder that they are a hypocryte. And neither is better than the other......I've had enough aswell. This debate's very petty and pointless really! "Life's to short" Indeed. (Don't take my comments personally-we don't know each other)
without this band - it is simple, idiot bands such as NIN does not exist... and the reason why SPK was never well known, was because Graeme never succomed to the almighty advertising dollar... SPK NEVER had advertising of any kind...
re;nirvanaispus.Hmmm! bands like NIN would not exist without SPK?? I think you are somewhat deluded my freind. And please, whether SPK were popular or not should never be an issue. Which of SPK's music do you prefer? pre-1983 or post-1983? If you prefer there change in musical direction in 1983 then may i recommend you listen to Depeche Mode. Thanks.
No, IDIOT bands such as NIN does not exist without SPK... I love ALL SPK - SPK perhaps the most varied band ever and that makes it all the more worthwhile... Seeing SPK was also soething I will never forget, amazing to say the least... And Graeme Revell a true artist in his own right - wow what a composer... And you have to remember 1 thing that seperates the Awful D.M. from SPK and Graeme - both NEVER had a single dollar spent on advertising...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'll say it again. YOU ARE FUCKING DELUDED!! I like spk but do you really think people like trent reznor take any inspiration from their music? Get your facts right>SPK would not exist without Throbbing gristle whose sound spk most obviously copied(FACT!) SPK were great at industrial music but there music had little originality. And Graeme Revell is now living in an LA mansion, hmmm! I wonder who the 'sell-out' is? Sorry friend but your not seeing things as they actually are.
re:temporaryguy. The creators of the aesthetic of 'Industrial' music was a group called Throbbing Grislte who released an album entitled:'The second annual report of Throbbing Gristle'recorded 1977 and on the cover was the sentence 'Industrial music for industrial people'.-The sentence was the idea of san fransisco performance artist Monte cazzaza(an associate of TG).NIN are a million miles away from the roots of industrial,"industrial rock"?? No such thing! don't let the media blind you. thanks!
Haha, hardly. At one time he was one of the most relevant artists. He managed to combine genuinely progressive sound with commercial success. I'm guessing any criticism comes from those pissed that he actually rivaled the likes of Bowie and Kraftwerk while they floundered in obscurity.
'Kraftwerk flundered in obscurity'? Never heard such nonsense before! Just because you are a Numan-Fan, does not allow you to talk rubbish... Listen first, then talk man!
And by the way, if you see a link between Kraftwerk, Numan and Bowie you need to explain that to the non-obscure audience ...
I'm not talking about Kraftwerk or Bowie. Kraftwerk are undoubtedly legends and are widely regarded as such, HOWEVER, I bet the average person under 30 hasn't even heard of them. Bowie of course is a megastar, anyway I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about acts such as John Foxx, Laurie Anderson, SparX, e.t.c.
Do I see a link between Bowie, Kfratwerk and Numan, Er... yeah I do. Bowie almost invented a type of genre with his old bud Eno. Kraftwerk were almost contemporaneous to that emergent sound and laid the groundwork for a glut of bands that followed, while Numan became, I would argue the first proper Synth/Electro star, following the same path, albeit with a different emphasis, that Bowie did a decade earlier.
Yeahs, but Bowie and Kraftwerk are better. They can sing and perform and are still somewhat awesome, but Numan just can't seem to do either very well. lol
Kraftwerk are very cool but hardly the most charismatic of acts, which I guess is their selling point. Bowie is, well awesome, no question, but I would actually say that Numan has the better voice. It's got a more haunting sound to it and it's stronger. Bowie uses his well but it hasn't got the same range. Numan started off strong went a bit wobbly mid career but actually the last decade he's produced some absolute blinding stuff.
Penso di aver ascoltato "Zahmia Lehmanni" centinaia di volte. Acquista, col tempo. Ed è, più di altre, una musica da colonna sonora. Una colonna sonora epica.
Made in a standard betacam 3 machine, bve800 editsuite setup with a cox component mixer, I used to swap the RGB cables to get some effects, too easy to do today with a decent nonlinear computer but this was early eighties, very hands on and manual effects. My favourite bit is the end with a feedback and luminance downstream key dripping off screen.
So good to see this clip again. I had lost my copy. I shot the studio stuff of graemes wife(?) and edited it using some shots of Gabo island (from a doco on the sydney hobart yachy race our rather straight company were doing at the time) heavily keyed and many, many layered the hi res version has a pulse to it that doesnt really come across on the youtube res.
ok i tracked down this lp in record time (no pun intended! really!) and it really is a masterpiece, i never bought it before because i thought by 1986 they were doing that awful pop stuff-machine age voodoo etc-and they were! how did this album come about then? anyone know?
Reminds me of a very sad occasion for me, what grabbed me for years. I just bought this album. Can't listen to it without having the chills. So hauntingly beautiful. Breaths death. Brrr.
Side A: - Invocation (to Secular Heresies) - Palms Crossed In Sorrow - Romanz In Mol (Romance in a Minor Key) - In The Dying Moments
Side B: - in flagrante delicto (introduction) In Flagrante Delicto - Alocasia Metallica - Necropolis - The Garden Of Earthly Delights - The Doctrine Of Eternal Ice
Saw them tour in Los Angeles for this album. . . . . . pretty lame live. . . . favorite part was when the guy was play the "tubular bells" which were cardboard tubes hanging from string that would float around as he "played" them
yeah i still remember the concert they gave in amsterdam of this album. first half they PLAYBACKED the album entirely with lots of smoke and a lumberjack on cello, second part they activated the synth, rolled the oildrums between the audience, everybody fled, they were thrown back on stage by security to set fire to their own embellishments of the first part.. greatgreat show twas!

Look, bands like SPK practically invented industrial. NIN are industrial rock. Therefore...

re:temporaryguy. No such thing! don't let the media blind you. thanks!

trent was inspired by gary numan in the late 70's ('78)
gary numan is the biggest pioneer and is still performing live

Absolutely. The man was a latter day Da Vinci, just an incredible thinker whose ideas still have yet to be fully realised.

Gary Numan is irrelevant.
Synthpappa 2 years ago
Haha, hardly. At one time he was one of the most relevant artists. He managed to combine genuinely progressive sound with commercial success. I'm guessing any criticism comes from those pissed that he actually rivaled the likes of Bowie and Kraftwerk while they floundered in obscurity.
Aueneye 2 years ago
'Kraftwerk flundered in obscurity'? Never heard such nonsense before! Just because you are a Numan-Fan, does not allow you to talk rubbish... Listen first, then talk man!
And by the way, if you see a link between Kraftwerk, Numan and Bowie you need to explain that to the non-obscure audience ...
dustinzk 2 years ago
I'm not talking about Kraftwerk or Bowie. Kraftwerk are undoubtedly legends and are widely regarded as such, HOWEVER, I bet the average person under 30 hasn't even heard of them. Bowie of course is a megastar, anyway I'm not talking about them. I'm talking about acts such as John Foxx, Laurie Anderson, SparX, e.t.c.
Aueneye 2 years ago
Do I see a link between Bowie, Kfratwerk and Numan, Er... yeah I do. Bowie almost invented a type of genre with his old bud Eno. Kraftwerk were almost contemporaneous to that emergent sound and laid the groundwork for a glut of bands that followed, while Numan became, I would argue the first proper Synth/Electro star, following the same path, albeit with a different emphasis, that Bowie did a decade earlier.
Aueneye 2 years ago
Yeahs, but Bowie and Kraftwerk are better. They can sing and perform and are still somewhat awesome, but Numan just can't seem to do either very well. lol
Synthpappa 2 years ago

Love to get a hires copy if you have one!

So good to see this clip again. I had lost my copy. I shot the studio stuff of graemes wife(?) and edited it using some shots of Gabo island (from a doco on the sydney hobart yachy race our rather straight company were doing at the time) heavily keyed and many, many layered the hi res version has a pulse to it that doesnt really come across on the youtube res.

yeah i still remember the concert they gave in amsterdam of this album. first half they PLAYBACKED the album entirely with lots of smoke and a lumberjack on cello, second part they activated the synth, rolled the oildrums between the audience, everybody fled, they were thrown back on stage by security to set fire to their own embellishments of the first part.. greatgreat show twas!
