  • I loved both versions of the film and soundtrack. But this is the theme that I grew up with. Thanks for the grand music!

  • love it!!

  • tangerine dream is the only version to watch of this movie

  • love this movie so much!

  • magnifique!

  • Five people touched the unicorn

  • Anyone know where someone can get the NON-DIRECTORS CUT version of this film? DIRECTORS CUT SUCKED ASS. original content was 100% better.

  • i've always been a fan of this movie and its music!

  • Jerry Goldsmith is the Best!!..

  • This is the original music. Thanks for putting it on :D I had it on vhs but I won't buy it on dvd until they 'FIX' it

  • @Robertahausen the blu ray has the US and director cuts versions, just like with the Ultimate Edition dvd.

  • @Robertahausen Actually, this is NOT the orignal music. The Legend that everyone is familiar with (the one with this soundtrack by Tangerine Dream) is NOT the original soundtrack to this movie, it was changed because this movie was not well-received at first and that's when the descion to have Tangerine Dream make the score was made. I bought this movie on DVD and learned that the hard way because I MUCH prefer Tangerine Dream than the true original soundtrack.

  • Legend is one of the most underrated films I can think of. Critics panned it but I found it to be thematically rich and incredibly beautiful visually.

  • Lifes Magic

  • Grew up to this movie and music VERY unforgetabe!

To me it questions your own soul beleive in truth and the purity thats left inside of you.

  • This is a fantastic version!

  • This is great but it only sucks that the best part of the song was cut off at the very end? Was this intentional?

  • Yeah if you get the Ultimate Edition DVD Directors Cut, You get both versions of the film plus loads of extras! Jerry Goldsmith did the score for the European version of the film and Tangerine Dream did the US version. That happened cause the screenings weren't well received in the US with the Jerry Goldsmith version, so they recut the film and got TD to do the score for the US.

  • @typeanoise The Goldsmith soundtrack almost makes it seem like a different movie! But there will always be a special place in my heart for the TD one. I worse that cassette out! Wish it was easier to find on CD

  • @Pharmakon7

I love Tangerine Dream too. I thought they did a great job with the score. This song is fantastic.

  • PURE MAGIC! how could anybody not love this movie or the music, its SO BEAUTIFUL! even the dark scenes as scary as they are, still are beautiful, but remember folks you can't have a good fairy tale without a very scary villain. :)

  • I'm sorry I never responded back, I rarely check my messages that often. But I managed to find the track :) thank-you all so much!

  • I have to say I prefer the extended ultimate version of the movie with the orignal goldsmith score...but......tangerine dream's unicorn theme is one of my favorite pieces of music ever and what originally made the movie have such a lasting impression

  • Is there a rare version for the score "The Dance" ..... honestly the Unicorn Theme is an esoteric mind lifting piece!

  • enchanting

  • greatest music on earth

  • I hate to use this cliche... but 4 people are NOT magical...

  • i loved this films music by tangerine dream.i bought the CD now deleted, and the hard to find 20th anniversary edition CD. just wish they had put that score on the DVD instead of the original USA version jerry goldsmith score PANTS! i want the european score we know and love ,is your love strong enough, loved by the sun, the dance, the lord of darkness, made the film.any person who watched the film in 85 listened to that score, what the hell were they thinking using the goldsmith score,

  • @streethawkkjb Actually the Jerry Goldsmith score was the European score. Seems the UK lucked out.

  • I know this is from Legend, but does anyone else think it sounds just a little like it could have been in The NeverEnding Story soundtrack?

  • ok im prolly repeating others but...

Iv seen a version long time ago when lily sings to the unicorns

it was the first i seen the movie and taped it on vhs , but eventualy erased it over time

ever sinds i never seen the scene the same

  • @SkampeX I remember seeing extra scenes too, not her singing, but of the little elf dude talking and fliping around... I think there are several versions floating around, I wish Ridley would make up his damn mind!!! LOL

  • @multuminparvo

Yes the version your describing are scenes from the " European Cut " of the film.

Ridley Scott tested the film in the US to poor feedback and so re-cut it and added a new fantasy score by Tangerine Dream and left the European Cut as it was, complete with the classical score by Jerry Goldsmith, so there are in fact 3 versions floating around, the US cut, the Euro cut , & the Director's cut! The original running time was 150 minutes - that version has never been released!

  • Comment removed

  • @Culex00 Unfortunately that version has birds and thunder and other effects included, while this version uploaded here doesn't. But at least the download has the full version; this one is cut off.

  • this soundtrack was one of the strengths of this movie. so unique.

  • this would not be the original soundtrack, the original was scored tangerine dream was a last minute compromise....

  • een van de mooiste films die ik ooit gezien heb

  • 4:52 So beautiful! :)

  • LaMissFa1ry do you have a link for this version?? Where can I get it?

  • how come this version is cut off at the end? was this done intentionally? sounds like the song is more than just five minutes and sixteen seconds.

  • i have this song too

everytime i hear it, my mind thinks of the unicorns, and the snow, then Christmas for some reason

it's so beautiful and suits the unicorns very well indeed

  • could ya send us this version if you have it mate ?

  • its not on my computer anymore

    something happened.

    sorry

  • Very beautiful!! Relaxes the mind and eases the soul!!! Gives that feeling of eternal love and hope!!

  • This is a beautiful version of the song.... but theres one track that I heard in the movie I'm going crazy trying to find. On the track Loved By the Sun on the soundtrack around the end of the song one girl says "To believe in the good in man." You hear the track right as the song fades out. It's also heard during the love scene at the begining with Jack and Lily close to the begining of the movie. Does anyone know if they ever released a track of that music score?

  • Jon Anderson

  • @Saora have you checked the movie soundtrack?

  • @Saora Yes, they did. It's on the movie soundtrack. You can probably find it at Hastings (if you have one), or Barnes and Noble. Any large store like those will more than likely have it.

  • @Saora - Yes: I have it in my Windows media library...Jon Anderson sings it with Tangerine Dream and the girl repeats the phrase at the end.

  • @Saora you can find the soundtrack on ebay, i did. it cost me about ten bucks. it has darkness on the cover. make sure it is the American version as the European version is a totally different sound track all together (isnt made by tangerine dream)

  • @alfannon ive noticed that the actual movie is different too. The American Version is waaaay better than the European version

  • @Saora download the album via vuze

  • @Saora

I'm wondering too! Does anybody know where to get that track or what it is called?

  • Comment removed

  • @Saora did you find the track?

  • @Saora I have the Loved By The Sun MP3 with that on the end. Is that what you are wanting?

  • @Saora Its on the Tangerine Dream Soundtrack, its really expensive but I had to have that song so I sucked it up and got it. Check out amazon.com

  • @susiesalm0n Any chance of you posting that on YouTube?

  • @Saora /watch?v=6l-tm0ZGPns

    xxx

  • @Saora

It's on the Loved by the Sun track on the original Tangerine Dream soundtrack.

"Sweet dreams of you, the wise, the meeting of all wisdom. to believe in the good in man"

However, I don't remember hearing those vocals during the actual movie.

  • @Saora When I originally got this soundtrack, I got it on cassette (to tell you how long ago THAT was and how old I am too). The "Loved by the Sun" track on the cassette did end with the girl saying the phrases "Sweet songs of youth. The wise. The meeting of all wisdom." and "To believe in the good in man." over and over. It's the ending theme. Great song, performed by Tangerine Dream with Jon Anderson (of Yes) singing. Look up "Loved by the Sun" on YouTube and you'll find it.

  • @Saora

    Did you ever find this?

  • @Saora Did you find it? Every soundtrack I've bought for this movie has had that score on it.

  • @Saora It's the "Opening" theme on the soundtrack version.

  • @Saora I absolutely adore Tangerine Dream for this soundtrack to this movie!

  • @Saora The Legend CD

  • @Saora I have that track on a cassette tape version of the soundtrack from 1989.

  • @Saora type the "Utube" URL then this------> /watch?v=L-JvyczPDIo Live, long and beautiful. I did not upload it or claim any rights to it But pls enjoy everyone!!!!

  • @ImaCommunist1 /watch?v=L-JvyczPDIo Again just to be clear ive seen so many comments looking for this

  • @Saora Yep I have that version "Sweet Songs of Youth the wise the meeting of all wisdom to believe in the good of man". I didn't realize it was so rare though I thought it was on all songs by Tangerine Dream.

  • @Saora if you download loved by the sun it should play at the end of the song...mine does

  • I have this version too, from 4:06 to 5:16 is simply heaven on the ears I wish it was abit longer.

    Well done for uploading this.

  • @voon100 your wish is true. just posting to the top few ppl cause you obviously love this music as i do. type the "Utube" URL then ----> /watch?v=L-JvyczPDIo

  • I loved this movie

  • Heard this live in 1986 (Liverpool Royal Court). First time I had seen Tangerine Dream live - what a gig and what a wonderful piece of music

  • this movie is and will always be a great movie.

  • haha ! you're so stupid man

  • TD must have been told "We need a complete new soundtrack. And you have a week." In order to expedite the creative process someone must have decided to just copy the style of Vangelis' score for Blade Runner.

  • a lovely piece of music. almost makes you believe in faeries and unicorns and that you could visit those mythical times.

  • This is just an instrumental of Loved By The Sun, this isn't the Unicorn theme...

  • It is the instrumental of Loved by the Sun but it is also the Unicorn theme. I have it on numerous Tangerine Dream bootleg CD's

  • have the soundtrack but this better and longer version is not on it, can you send me this version

  • give the Man a cigar

    Ridley...the master

  • where can i find the a torrent for the TD version?? one of my ALL TIME fave movies and STs!!

  • this used to be my bedtime movie as a child :)

  • This is tragic. The out of print Legend soundtrack is selling for $47 USED on Amazon. This music should be re-released. If R. Scott did it for Blade Runner he can do it for Legend.

  • Beautiful song! Wonder why the Tangerine Dream OST is STILL very expensive?! *sigh*

  • The expense of it is because it was never re-released, and presumably was deleted from catalogue. Scott made the decision to re-release the film with the original JG soundtrack. However, there is a copy circulating released in the US with two cuts of the film and both soundtracks...but I haven't found it on Amazon yet!

  • i have it its got both versions and a fuck load of special features ;)

  • this song is amazing, love Legend. classic. Tangerine Dream always had that magical touch in catching the emotions displayed in particular scenes in movies. How can we forget Risky Business. great stuff thanks for posting

  • I always think of the line from the film "The dreams of youth are the regrets of maturity." Spoken by Darkness and quite true.

  • Interesting fact.

This is basically Loved by the Sun, which overlays the Jon Anderson vocal over the top.

I love Jon and YES, but Tangerine Dream was never okay with the fact that they added the vocals.

    True story.

Great music, you have to admit.

  • Beautiful- Ridley Scott is a pure cinematic fGenius! Tangerine Dream,Ferry,Anderson WOW!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My ultimate favorite movie of all time! Where did you get this song off of. And if you have the cd can i please have a copy?

  • by far the most trippy song i have ever heard in my life! lol

  • In the case of electronic score composition, vs classical score composition, Tangerine Dream with their electronic based score definitely capture more emotion.

The deep tones and that distinctive electronic sound make it just so good.

    Argh, gives me goosebumps.

  • I've got a handful of versions of this "Suite," one of them actually titled "Legend [Suite]," which has, as far as I can tell, the best audio quality of all.

I prefer the Goldsmith score for the film, but I'm so grateful to have this and a couple of other tracks from the TD score to listen to, as it was the one I first was introduced to.

  • It sounds neat without the words and stuff

  • Everytime I find this song it always gets cut off after 5:15, does anybody know why and wheres the rest of it?

  • i have this song and i love listening to it especially in the winter

  • i prefer the original jerry goldsmith soundtrack.

  • I agree.

  • Actually Tangerine Dream did the original soundtrack which I grew up with.... They re-did the soundtrack for DVD......

  • actually tangerine dream did the soundtrack for the northamerican release, which is not the original.

  • Yes I know the Goldsmith version was the original but they changed the soundtrack to Tangerine dream upon release to appeal to the younger generation.. The Tangerine Dream version is the one I am myself familiar with and grew up watching.... I am in the UK and never saw the Goldsmith version til I got the DVD.. I was so dissapointed.....

  • Agreed, I am in the UK too. I still have the film on tape, from when I recorded it back in 1900 something. Its all grainy and fucked up...but I'd rather watch it than the Goldsmith version on DVD.

  • haha, I also have a TV recorded video tape somewhere, but no longer have a VCR to play it on.. :(

  • Thats becuase the b.b.c got the wrong version when they purchased it from the americans they were supposed to get fhe J.G version but the americans gave them the [what they thought was the inferriour version] that played to are eropean prepherance

  • i was not, i never saw the tangerine dream version. i'm glad they used the original jerry goldsmith soundtrack for the dvd.

  • well thats your personal opinion and I respect that... Personally I think some of the magic is missing with the Goldsmith soundtrack... sounds like any other movie.. Atleast with the TD soundtrack the movie had character and more emotion....

  • Where is this track from? Which CD? This is the version of the Unicorn theme I've been looking for and can't find.

  • soundtrack to the movie "Legend" (1986) with Tom Cruise, Mia Sara and Tim Curry played "Darkness"

  • I have both the Tangerine Dream soundtrack and the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack. This version is on neither of them, nor is it on any Tangerine Dream CD I've found.

What CD is this version found on?

  • tangerine dreams music but not necessarily from soundtrack? i have both versions also and this isn't on mine either

  • I think a version of this song can be found on the bootleg "Legend: 20th Anniversary Edition," as well as another TD score bootleg (but that one has nature sounds mixed in throughout).

  • try looking on ebay *the 20th anniversary edition* cd from legend. I believe it has this and a few other extra songs on there. I bought it along time ago and it got stolen from me =(

  • Nope, I'm sorry but it's not the same as the one when Lily sings to the unicorn.

  • loveee this movie

  • You mean "The Unicorn Theme..."

  • I like Goldsmith but Tangerine Dream's score blows his score out of the water. Watching the movie with the Goldsmith score doesn't have the same impact, at all. The Goblins theme when they appear is so perfect, it still gives me shivers.

  • Agreed. I bought the dvd a few months back not realising it was the goldsmith version & it spoilt it for me.there were scenes cut out & the music didn't even flow with the movie, the timing was so bad but i cant seem to get hold of the td version.

  • The Ultimate Edition contains both formats.

  • Agreed..The tangerine dream soundtrack made this movie. It was mystical and enchanting. A once ia a lifetime job. Used to love getting stoned and watching this with a hot mate. If she liked it she was cool. If not, she lacked something in her soul. Like people who dont love dogs and animals. Have had unicorns around me all my life because of this movie. And Mia was so beautiful. We named our children Jack and Lilly and they at 3 and 5 have not yet been told it`s origin. One day I will Lilllllyy!

  • That is so cool!! :)

  • Is there any way I can get ahold of the part from 4:00- on. I loved the song that played when Jack and Lily courted one another, it's so romantic.

I'd give anything to have that song. Can someone please help me out?

  • You can find it on Tangerine Dream's cd Live in Ottawa. On that cd there is more legend music that wasn't on the soundtrack. I'm not sure that you can purchase the cd anywhere anymore but you can get the music on Itunes.

  • you could try getting veoh, and then download it to the veoh player. If you don't want to download it then try buying it from a best buy store or something, wish you luck >_o

  • We had to watch this film in an english class at high school, was pretty sweet but still not sure why we had to watch it, lol.

  • feel lucky. We got stuck with the scarlet letter.lol

  • yeah that is nice huh

  • I love the part between 2.20 and 2.50

  • Absolutely fantastic ! Beautiful !

  • this movie makes me wanna get high!!!

  • I used to get stoned watchin it man cool times

  • thoswe unicornsweere so beautiful i have a print off them i got on a website

  • Great fantasy film!!! Ridley was on top of things here. this film Legend Labyrinth Never ending story Dark Crystal and Rewturn to Oz are all great 80's fantasy films

  • :] love the music TD and the film too, haven't see it many many times~shh lol.

  • Hey, give me this song PLEASE!!! I will die without it! PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!!

  • Its the instrumental version of Tangerine Dreams' Loved By the Sun

  • exellent song exellent :) very calming love listenin to tangerine dreams while playin games good work :)

  • Some Of The Best Music In The World! =)))

  • i have this theme on my computer. anyone want it, please contact me

    gorgeous theme

  • Don't know the name of the song but I can tell you for a fact it plays during the Unicorn Apology scene, go look up that scene on youtube (it's here of course) and listen to this track from 3:03 (the unicorn whinnies and Jack apologizes) yeah, it's the same part.

  • It's also, mostly, the background tune for Love By the Sun and plays at the end when Jack puts the ring on Lili's finger at the end of the movie.

  • It's the same chords, different song.

  • Also, the very, veeeeery ending before it cuts off, is the background music from when Jack and Lili are frolicking in the woods as the goblins stalk them.

  • thise is the song Loved by the sun i loved thise film and god bless those beautiful unicorns

  • it sounds like an instramental version of loved by the sun. but i could be wrong lol i posted a video response

  • There are a few versions of this rare track floating around. You can actually buy two different "live" versions of it off of iTunes, or, if you're able, get them off of a couple of different TD bootleg scores, one being called the 20th Anniversary Edition or something. Quality levels, and sometimes length, vary between the versions.

  • i have this one. anyone who wants this track contact me.

    oh yeah, lovely!!

  • Absolutely, beautiful!

  • This such a beautiful song! I dont 'have this in my soundtrack either, hwere cani find it?

  • demais

  • Just beautiful! But it seems like the song just cuts off. I would love to hear the whole song though, if anyone knows where to find it. I'd be very greatful.

  • If it's not from the soundtrack where's it from then? I have a 7:03 track called "The Unicorn" which is identical to this but continues to a natural end after yours cuts out at 5:16. I'd really like to know where this is from so I can label it properly!

  • Thanks for uploading this, it sounds amazing. Tangerine Dream is great for dreamlike music such as this.
