It is not henna. It is called alaktaka, which is an ancient Indian way of applying color to hands and feet. It is made out of red colored lac or stone. It is applied on hands and feet in the typical pattern--a round circle in the center of the hand/foot and at the tips of the fingers. Henna is not part of the ancient Indian tradition--it has become a part of the Indian tradition because of the muslim influence.
