As for all the comments below, how the heck did we get to the topic of NAZIS?!? Irrelevant, no? And btw I completely respect southern wishes and all even if I disagree. I won't get into all that but I've always admired the perseverance of the Confederacy.

Slavery wasn't the sole reason why the South succeeded from the union, there were various cultural and political factors to it, unlike what the politically-correct historical revisionists say. There were in fact several Confederate politicians and Generals, including Robert E. Lee, that opposed slavery and only joined the CSA on the matter of principle, and planned on working to abolish slavery once the Confederate nation became established.
There were several Irish regiments in the CSA and a distant relative of the Irish side of my family fought under John Hunt Morgan. No he didn't own slaves.
The USA had several slave states in their ranks and they didn't force them to free their slaves during the whole civil war. Those states were Maryland, Kentucky, and Missouri.
General Sherman didn't oppose slavery and his view of blacks was no different then any plantation owner at the time.
@wlewisiii How was the North any better? Their laws were just as racist and they continued to permit slavery in well after the Emancipation Proclamation in states that remained in the Union.

What does the name Patrick Cleburne mean to you? He wasn't an Ulsterman. And there's a reason the Battle Flag has a saltire instead of a cross- it's to make it clear that the Confederacy was secular just like the Union. Slavery of blacks, I'll grant you that (though not importation), but not nativism or anti-Semitism. That's factually incorrect.

Thanks to the book (my favourite of all time)"gone with the wind" i started to study civil war, the conferated states, the slavery question, all about that. in my opinion, north didn't bring freedom to slaves, but only a transition to another, more and more and more cruel slavery.i hope that one day i will visit this beautiful land, especially Georgia and Lousiana...South will rise again!

Actually, when this song was made, Missouri and Kentucky where neutral states. They later on became numbers 12 and 13 when the north invaded them.

I can see why "Dixie" eclipsed this as the South's anthem. This is definitely the B-side to that single.
However, I agree with Johnny Cash when he said that Tom Petty's "Southern Accent" is a far more fitting song than even "Dixie" for this purpose.
