Now, go with Basilisk: I discovered this series while watching Animax one day, and is one of the best anime series I had seen, both in story and animation, I later read the manga but I prefer the anime since it gave more deep to the characters. My favorite character is Hotarubi, she knows how to make butterflies look badass XD

Naruto and Basilisk are two different series aimed to two different group of people. Naruto is a shonen manga aimed to teenager boys, Basilisk is a seinen manga aimed to adults, you can't compare series of different genres because obviously they would have a different potrayal of battle and view of life (shonen is idealist while seinen is more realistic) so this whole comparison seems very shallow to me, based only because both series have ninjas. I like both series in their own, personally.

This show got nothing but violence. Not only it copies from Ninja Scroll, but also it took great inspirations from Romeo and Juliet. That's two counts of guilty for unoriginality. Naruto may have taken some inspirations from the past, but at least it has introduced tons of new things in the show, otherwise, it wouldn't have been such popular in the first place. Basilisk is plotless anime inserted with gratuitous violent genre to disguise as artistic. Almost make me throw up.

Basilisk is based in a novel called The Kouga Ninja Scrolls, by Futaro Yamada, written in 1958. Oh, by the way, Ninja Scroll is also based on Futaro Yamada's novels... if you were a little bit smart, you would search about it before talking....

I guess the innovation the series bring, are the well though strategies battles, which now, doesn't even exist. You could also say the use of japonese mythology and the way kishimoto use the jutsu. I'm not saying naruto is bad or anything, in fact i'm a fan of the series.

Naruto is epic, this show is not. The former has a complicated plot while the latter seems like a project created by a simpleton, and a Ninja Scroll wannabe. On top of that, the plot in Basilisk is cruel, inhumane, at times is too brutal to watch. Naruto has intelligent characters and comic humors that do not need to resort gratuitous violence to sell.
