Katie, I am a 20 year old, who gets most of his news from internet news websites, the WSJ, the NYT, and MSNBC. I haven't seen many of your nightly broadcasts, and back when I was in High School "Today" came on after I left for school.
Anyway, that interview with Sarah Palin was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. You could not have been more direct with your questions. There weren't any gotcha moments. It was so open that no pundit could argue a liberal bias.
This is a very well-written analysis. My question is pretty simple: why don't we have better candidates to choose from? Although it is interesting to get distracted with the VP's, the main event is Obama v. McCain. A junior/inexperienced senator (by Hillary's account) and an aging war hero/long-time bureaucrat. I am deeply concerned that neither can lead us back to prosperity. I am not as bothered by Palin as I am by McCain- I think she can learn on the job- she did ok with the debate.

I think Katie is full of it. I can't think of all the interviews with her where she soft-pedaled and never asked the hard questions. I'm not thrilled with Palin, but this is a democracy with division of power---that means the complex issue of financial crisis and solving it involves round-table discussion with real experts on the subject, not one person knowing the answer. None of the nominees are financial experts and putting them on the spot because of it is an easy shot, too easy.
The ironic thing is that most of obamas followers are more experienced to be president than he is. Sara Palin is more experienced than Bill Clinton was. Bill was governor but a small state and small population and no foreign policy experience or military experience.

You should interview each candidate the way you interviewed Palin. Palin is obviously unqualified to run for any office. Alaska has 3 electoral votes, Rhode Island has 4. There are more people living in Rhode Island than in Alaska. Biden has done over 100 interviews, Palin has done 3. If you were qualified and able to be a VP why wouldn't you want to talk to the people and have the camera crews there. Palin is very afraid of the fact checks for obvious reason. McCain/Biden would have been a winning ticket, sorry McCain not this time (or in 2000).

Katie, I am a 20 year old, who gets most of his news from internet news websites, the WSJ, the NYT, and MSNBC. I haven't seen many of your nightly broadcasts, and back when I was in High School "Today" came on after I left for school.
Anyway, that interview with Sarah Palin was one of the coolest things I have ever seen. You could not have been more direct with your questions. There weren't any gotcha moments. It was so open that no pundit could argue a liberal bias.

This is a very well-written analysis. My question is pretty simple: why don't we have better candidates to choose from? Although it is interesting to get distracted with the VP's, the main event is Obama v. McCain. A junior/inexperienced senator (by Hillary's account) and an aging war hero/long-time bureaucrat. I am deeply concerned that neither can lead us back to prosperity. I am not as bothered by Palin as I am by McCain- I think she can learn on the job- she did ok with the debate.

I think that was a great interview Katie.I think everyone had high hopes of her. However, I think people are finally figuring out that she was only a pawn in this presidential election. Great job on the interview. I admire your work ethic and I think continuing to do fact-based investigative journalism will gain you the admiration of more and more viewers. It was also great to see a woman interviewing a woman politician, because it removed gender from the equation. It was a bit tough to watch Charles Gibson interview Palin because he acted somewhat paternal.

I'm not thrilled with Palin, but this is a democracy with division of power---that means the complex issue of financial crisis and solving it involves round-table discussion with real experts on the subject, not one person knowing the answer. None of the nominees are financial experts and putting them on the spot because of it is an easy shot, too easy.

The ironic thing is that most of obamas followers are more experienced to be president than he is. Sara Palin is more experienced than Bill Clinton was. Bill was governor but a small state and small population and no foreign policy experience or military experience.

Thanks for doing your job. The American people rely on responsible reporting like this. Since the Bush Administration, I feel we have virtually lost our citizen's rights to know. To know the truth. Our country is in a nosedive from top to bottom and we have the right to know that Sarah Palin is absolutely not ready to lead this country. If you get a chance to interview Palin again, I do have a question. "Why did she change the law to make women pay for their own rape kits?"

Hi Miss Katie; I have to agree with the previous comments posted. You demonstrated your true class and grace by not falling out of your chair or collapsing to the ground in uncontrollable laughter. I received an e-mail yesterday (questionable) saying that the Governor was going to withdraw from the ticket due to "Family Concerns". I don't think even that will help the GOP cause.

I couldn't believe what I saw and have to say was wondering if this was the reason the McCain camp was treating her with kid gloves. NOT fair to the people though! We deserve to see more of how she can or can't handle her self in the tough situations. In front of a group of reporters for instance. This could be the next VP and even perhaps President. We haven't been given enough of these "tests".

Really, I didn't know it was a conservative belief to have intercourse outside of marriage. I also did not know it was a liberal belief for a woman to sacrifice her family for her career. This is depicted by our uber-conservative, barely educated and shockingly uninformed republican vice-presidential candidate. Also wasn't it the conservatives who voted for the deregulation of the marketplace, and who is paying for it now...the American Public, if this is conservatism you can keep it!

Good Lord, I just had a chance to watch the interview, and I am aghast. No wonder they've been avoiding the press. Palin has the speaking ability of a fourth grader. Katie, you have exceptional skill at deftly getting to the heart of the matter; your timing is impeccable. Glad you made the decision to leave the Today chat-fashion show to apply your admirable talent as a serious journalist. Good move.

It was a wonderful interview, Katie. I've watched it over and over and I never get tired of hearing her fall back on those rote responses. Clearly she doesn't think very fast on her feet... you simply exposed that.

Katie i'm most interested in the economy at the moment and it's bail out plan for wall street. I'm not convinced we are in dire straits and that the government needs our tax paying dollars to pay for the bail out. I think we need more research before we jump into anything else ever in this country.
And I'm astonished by Sarah Palin, i almost felt sorry for her during your interview. She's not the brightest bulb in the package, however I would think that her handlers would coach her better.

Hi Katie. I have always enjoyed ur interviews over the yrs. Gr8 SP interview. It just confirms what most have been thinking, that SP is totally unqualified. It is frightening that she could easily be president because McCain could likely have a stroke. US politics effects the world, so we in Australia are watching this election closely as this is probably the most important election in decades. I absolutely loved Katie's interview with Gov. Palin. Katie's questions were fantastic, and all very pertinent. I was just blown away with how well she conducted that interview. I will not comment on Gov. Palin's answers, though.

I would love to hear you ask her if she has every had a friend that got an abortion and could she understand how that friend might have felt about that choice. From a girlfriend's perspective. I myself have a friend that almost died and was left sterile from a backstreet abortion many years ago. I would hate to see those days come back.
