  • Absolutely breathtaking. I loved it.

  • This would've been better if the quality of the camera was better. I am only 13 and I'm learning to play this piece. I can definitely tell the contrast of the interpretation of both Lugansky's and Vadim's playing. All I can say is; well playing and the video would've been better if the camera was in better condition :)

  • You are great, Vadim.

  • OMG! every time a note is added to the melody i just shudder at that pure genius. OMG. all i can say

  • JUSTBRILLIANT!!! Adoro este Momento Musical!

  • He is one of the best pianist today :)

  • BRAVO!

  • I really like this interpretation. The pianist's rubato and dynamics really drive the descending figure in the left hand and push the music forward nicely while avoiding sounding rushed; quite the contrary to Lugansky's interpretation which keeps the left hand rock steady. Very nice.

  • Rachmaninov , TSAR of emotion. BRAVO

  • What fascinates me is that this Russian composer can literally engineer such irrational impulsive emotional outburst improvisation into organized formal music. It's as if a paranoid articulating his wild fantasy nightmare, revealing the very agony that triggered unthinkable creativity.

  • Wow

  • who are you ? it is beautiful

  • No wonder your video sounds better than the rest: BOSENDORFER! The absolute BEST! Your playing also the BEST on this piece.

  • this guy RACHS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is by far my favorite rendition of this song....its perfect. To me at least, i dont know the technicalities of this song but I dunno...It gives this awesome "rolling" feeling that i haven't heard from other versions of this song. (Awful at describing things i know)

    Absolutely beautiful, well done!

  • Bravo!!!

  • @KlassikFan2007

    Isn't he chaimovich?

  • very good but not better than my friend

  • genius, played ingeniously

  • I love how you interpreted this piece! I hear something special in this piece from you...

  • I've listened to quite a few videos of this song on youtube (i don't have a recording of it yet) and this has got to be the best interpretation and performance i've heard of it yet. I don't know what everybody's talking about about Lugansky

  • @kgklinkel it is very difficult to find the six moment musical, I mean all of them on a CD. I like this more than Lugansky, also like Jung Lin's moment 4 :-)

  • @kgklinkel totally agreed, there is also Jung Lin , lugansky guy

  • Probably shouldn't make this comparison, but this sounds eerily similar to Chopin's 'Winter Wind' etude.

  • @pianoman469 actually rach based the structure on the revolutionary etude (op. 10 no 12)

  • @inblahblahland

    I shat a brick

  • @inblahblahland Rach based it on the Chopin prelude in g major, and it sounds like the revolutionary etude :-)

Hear Jung Lin's Moment 4, you maybe like it :-)

  • Yes, I am definitely learning this piece.

  • Fenomenal interpretation!!!!!!!!!

  • Fantastic

  • You play good!

  • I wish I could play like you...Bravo!

  • I'm in love with this piece of art.

I could and laugh at the same time because it's so beautiful. Seriously, this touched me deeply.

  • Bravo!!

  • That richness of timbre! Color dynamics really perfect! Respect! I follow with interest

    Regard - Vanni

  • veeeeery nice. i'm starting to learn this piece myself. how much practice did you put in for this one?

  • He did not (as far as I know). I meant generally his

interpretation of Rachmaninov. I used to take it as

model until Lugansky, who sounds more "modern"

(to me). Your performance is, of course, excelent

and admirable. I just wanted to point out at my idol.

    Wish you good luck!!

  • Horowitz recorded #4? That's news to me.

  • Of course, he did not. What I meant I have already explain in my answer to KlassikFan2007 (see there).

I am sorry to cause such misunderstanding. My apology.

  • Lugansky is better!!!

  • meravigliosa interpretazione.sei sempre magico

    bravo vadim

  • Fuck off how difficult this song is to play.. just fuckin listen and feel.

..Rachmaninov had a tortured soul, haha.

  • It stupid to write what is hard and what is not. Its how you play it.

  • OK

This is exceptionally good, tremendously difficult and well played.

I can play Rachmaninov but only 4 or 5 pieces well.

It's easy to criticize, more difficult to play. I'd be happy to listen to any of you play 4 or 5 Scarlatti sonatas & 2 Rach preludes - any chance you'd play live?

  • thats entirely subjective, i would personally put this piece harder than the Beethoven Moonlight Presto movement

  • hahaha, the presto is simply arpeggios. Nothing too special

  • No it's not.

  • Really?

I would like to know if you can do it better.

  • One more question though. In matters of difficulty, how does this compare to the Presto movement of Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven?

  • Almost the same

  • Okay, thanks ;)

  • NO, Slava -.- . MM4 is WAYY more difficult in technique.

  • It was not for me :) I played rach before Beethov, and it was not more difficult (once again, for me :) )

  • This piece isn't that difficult to learn... It's even sextuplets in the left hand nearly all the way through. Speed & volume without killing your left had are the main challenges to learning. Playing it well maybe a little more difficult ;)

Agree with the other comments that this version has more brooding interest, more menace and more beauty than the Lugansky version (which is probably more technically adept)

  • i think that depends on what you end up going for with either piece..

IMO, MM4 would be harder, because of its demand for continuous buildup, even though it starts off pretty loud

  • I've played through both, and I have to say, I think the Rachmaninoff is harder. The Beethoven piece has more right hand movement, which is usually easier to pull off than a lot of left handed movement. (as in the Rach) Also, the Rachmaninoff has some stuff with 'two against three' feel.. and there's lots of tough jumps to get to at that speed.

  • This performance is absolutely amazing! In my opinion, (not neccessarily others') this is far better than performed by Berman or Lugansky!

So much more powerful ... Good going!

  • Absolutely fantastic. Such energy.

  • Awesome i enjoyed that!

  • Amazing playing would be a gross understatement. Bravo! TY James.

  • You're so right!

You're so right! Rachmaninov would be proud.

  • An excellent performance of Rachmaninov's Musical Moment no. 4! TY!

  • Vadim! A Bosendorfer! I learn on one of them, and the action is soo hard to control! To be able to play Rachaminov on that kind of piano means your a genius!

  • The Bösendorfer is the best piano in the world - light years ahead of Steinway who admit to using Yamaha actions for some 20 years now..

Whilst the Steinway has a sound which is universally liked, its build quality is nothing out of the ordinary.

The Bösendorfer is the 'supreme being' of grand pianos in every regard, but i you found the action too hard, its because someone before you wanted it that way. Bösendorfer actions are notably medium to light when they leave the factory.

  • 2 minutes 57 seconds well spent!

  • May be it's the most romantic performance of this piece I've ever heard!..

  • love the hand reflection on the piano...connects the audio and the visual perfectly:)

  • this is like the 50th time ive watched this today....i just cant stop watching it...absolutely amazing...:-o Rachmaninov would be so proud...:-O

  • What has happened to the rest of Moments? I'm fairly positive that few months ago there were all six, here, on YT - all from this home-session. Each was absolutely brilliant and, in my humble opinion, smoked thoroughly Pogorelich's interpretation which I have now. I don't like it very much and I would like to listen to Chaimovich! :-)

  • Brilliant! That was absolutely mind-blowing, stunning performance!

  • I listened to his interpretation countless times but I never get bored,he is really something :D

  • I so agree with you! It will forever be the Cult version!!! :D

  • Hmmm that was okay. Nice piano...Bosendorfer

  • Je dirais même plus: FANTASTICO !! ^^

  • Fantastico

  • wunderschön

  • Gorgeous. =]

  • C'est magnifique...:)

  • wow....

  • awesome

  • KlassikFan: Why did you remove No. 6 in C major from here? Yours was the only recording of it on YouTube and probably the finest live performance of it I've ever seen and heard. Please put it back!

  • very very very good,Surely this is one of the best I have heard , better of lugansky's performance

  • Vadim,molodec!! Et Tomasz(cello);)

  • Excellent work!

  • Its kind of jazzy (sry for blaspheming :)) - perhaps due to the small room but I'd rather say because of the inspired, fiery, superb! playing which appears to be improvised.

I heard Lugansky's, which is brilliant and huge, like Titanic at sea, everything rolling downwards. This one though is like an eartquake and so eruptive, like birds escaping from the furious turbulent ground, striving upwards, mad happy when free, reaching for the sun. Maybe its in the accent of the rh notes idk

  • hey this si a gr8 peice played very well (Y)...does anyone know where i can get my hands on the sheets and the score for this? thanks

  • Very good version.

  • lugansky was good as well

  • I like lugansky interpretation very mucho but i like this more for example at the beggining Vadim starts slower and then increase lugansky seems hurry in some way in others parts too. But maybe it's because lugansky is live.

  • an excellent interpretation!

    probably my favorite

  • Finally, someone who understands this piece. Bravo.

  • Very nice! Much better than Lazar Berman post here anyway.

Not so hysterical at least! The video is not good and the sound leaves much to be desired. A bit too much of an amateur for a pro.

  • an amateur is "just"someone who loves music

  • @astroedic but not better than petter dimov

  • @iopzzza and who the fuck is pettter dimov?

  • Stunning.

  • He plays it so easily and with dégagé.Very high leveld interpretation

  • wow very good perfomance and nice grand piano i'd say ^^;

  • good stuff

  • Amazing!!! I love this piece.

  • better than cambry !!!!!! i love you

  • they have different styles of playing. you just cant say one is better than the other.

  • oh yes, ok but then i like this version more :)

  • Well, at least post some more of his performances then! :-)

  • I love how he makes it seem so easy... he doesn't seem tired at all playing this piece! nice job!

  • hi^^

this is so cool! actually i like this tune very much and his performance surprised me. applause★.。.:*・゜

  • Is your friend a pro? Certainly seems so. Identify him! He's good! Great performance!
