    thanks,

    brian o'neil

  • Probably one of the best videos I've seen on youtube. Thanks. Just started Chinese Brush Painting about a month ago. Fun and frustrating, but I'm hooked. What are some of the books you mentioned that are out of print?

  • i also took up the art and i was just sitting there with all these colored inks that i could noy remember what i bought them for, so i had the idea to use a pointy round brush dip[ed it into the ink , it kept its shape whilst paiting plum blosoms ontp canvas paper, but i do use a damp eye make up spounge to keep iys shape through-out works like a charm! keep up the good work.

  • bravo!!!!!!

  • hi,, my name is noah, and I to started chinese painting this year and I love it, I like your work looks good....Do you do other things like animals,EX......and do you sell your pitures.

  • My apologies. I was so excited and was a bit too quick out of the gate. Had I listened on a bit, I'd learned you already knew of Haiying. Cheers!

  • Yes I know Haiying. :o)

She is always happy..... almost always... A good inspiration to others.

I hope this was as fun.

  • Bravo! Just brilliant. Are you familiar with the silk painter and artist/caligrapher Yang Haiying? She is such a joy to watch and to listen to. She is from Bejing. If you get a chance, have a look at some of her videos, here, on YouTube.

    Thank you for your post.

  • I have to say I haven't seen anything more beautiful than your artwork. I have always wanted to learn this art, but since I live in Kansas, United States, it's hard to find any classes here too. The classes I have found here I dont have enough money for and are outrageous in price(Chicago). ^ ^'

  • I'm glad you enjoyed this.

I have not taken any classes. I simply sat down and started to paint.

If you look at the Forum I run and look at the link to the Journal, you will find some very funy things I started out painting in May 2008. When I started to paint.

Chinese Painting and Calligraphy to ma are alien creatures. I have never done this before.

If you are keen I could speak to London who could put tgoether a whole Chinese Art & Calligraphy kit for you and they could send it direct.

  • what an amazing video. just the thought process that you have gone through is incredible. there are very few people like you who really want to achieve the full essences of Chinese painting. i congratulate you for this and hope that you will one day understand the full potential of Chinese painting and be able to express all of it through every single one of your paintings.

  • Hi Neil,

    Good work!

  • YOu are really devoted!

  • Tankyou, I try incredibly hard. I would say, in all, 80% of my time is seeing their work. Looking at every angle. Studying the composition.

And the remaining 20% setting up and painting.

    But its rewarding.

in May I could not paint at all. The brush was totally alien.

I even had to trace characters. Its been a very tough journey I had to wait 5 months before I could even get any ink..

  • i hope to start this journey myself sometime in the near future when i have more resources and connections, and hopefully i will be able to also achieve what you have achieved

  • I hope you do. A year ago I had a 3 inch ink stone, an ink stick about the size of a matchstick and two feathery brushes. :)

At the bottom of the forum I run you'll find the westerners solution to all your needs... I hope.

    Best wishes.
