In fact, during the Bush administration, the debt ceiling was raised 19 times with no debate and full support of GOP leaders. If they had not raised the debt ceiling we would default on our foreign obligations leading, which would yield catastrophic results for the U.S. economy. This was merely an opportunity for grandstanding among members of congress rather than a genuine attempt at good public policy to address the national debt.

I'm not against the Tea Party, but they do have a point. It's austerity or disaster. Obama wants another 4 years. He'll do as little as possible to compromise that, including meaningful cuts.
