  • where else are you going to hear a melody about being a jailbird sounding so smooth?

  • the beat and cooke's delivery you don't get much better than this, this is pop soul at it's best

  • In March 1965, just three months after Sam Cooke's death, Womack created scandal by marrying Cooke's widow, Barbara Campbell. Womack claimed he married her for fear that, if she were left alone, she would "do something crazy".[7][8] They divorced in 1970.

  • Great job!!! Brings back the memories of my folks dancin' in the livingroom and at the NCO club...thanks for the memories!!!

  • Just so people know Sam Cooke was murdered by a motel manager after a prostitute tried to rob him and say it was rape. And people who saw his body claim he was beaten severely before he died, which calls into question if those events were even true

  • @MrParkinthedark Yeah..I remember that scandal and never believed it...but why on earth would a handsome talented dude likle SAM COOKE need to go to a prostitute, when he could have had ANYBODY...What he really needed was the LORD...What a waste!!!! God rest his soul...

  • @jbwildcat71 Which branch of military?

  • @BuffaloBillCody987 I sang this in the Army, they're the only branch that sometimes calls a recruit joe or jodi as far as i know.

  • @mktriton Sorry, but JODY was the guy that went after your girl back home. Almost every cadence we did had us sing about that jerk JODY going to get our girls. JODY was normally a civvy non-vet.

  • american indian would love to see all race's go back to eu af

  • just look at our government usa white & black & mexican are back to slavery in charlotte n.c. king day 17 2011 order parent to sent kids back to school that not honoring mr.king . 336 million people in u. s. a. half the people are unemploy and being foreclose on the people pushing them to homeless. live in the woods.

  • @jamesklontz , Children are being sent to school to learn proper use of English. It seems you could have used those extra days of school as well. Our history is full of great Americans, we do not take off every birthday of a great white American.

  • Sam Cooke just had that something in his voice or the way he sang a song. Call it soul or whatever, he just had it!

  • america in slavery to banks EUROPE BILDERBERG GROUP AN CLUB OF ROME by 2012 they selectamatic plan like a false career ladder america people play a fool EU BILDER BERG GROUP MASTERMIND

  • @jamesklontz

  • malfirst. you don't have 2 be black 2 know good music

  • @malfirst....u are full o shit! I'm chicano n I knw a thing or two bout a thing or two....put down th color card!

  • @marcoantonio i agree race card is bs when dealing with music

  • @tijuanacrew this music is just intrinsically linked to the black mens experience listen to what he is singing about latino chicano anyone opressed here in the Americas understands that inately but it is soooo beautiful I agree too my mother knew the man personally also she knew Jackie Wilson my parents met because of this music

  • @realbeautyness25 im not saying its not im just saying music, especially the blues although highly influenced by african americans does not solely reflect the black mans plight, rather the oppressed. great music never fades away

  • @realbeautyness25 Oh Lucky you

  • Whats the first picture called (0.07)? Where can I get a good quality Jpeg. I'd love to print a picture quality copy of that to hang on my wall.

  • song for da day.....

  • heard this on the radio the other day and i loved it what a song

  • chayne ghang

  • What a great voice! Beautiful job on this video! :)

  • I would have "killed" (of course not literally) if I could have ever met Sam Cook. I believe God gave this man the voice of an angel, and the part that touches my heart, is that he still recognized the sad, sad, part of our world, like "the chain gang", "our negro's plight for freedom", in A Change is Gonna come, or however you want to interpret that song, but this man seemed to have compasion. I love him for that. Marc Trainor.

  • @marcbonnie20008

Yes, you have to be born black to really understand the plight. what a great voice!

I can listen to and sing along =such a simple song!!!

  • great video thanks!
