  • Carl looks a bit like a young Al Pacino :)

  • Does he say 'Do we just keep on pretending and hope our love is never ending?' waaah, that's sad...

  • @MrTommyyMac Yeah, I've heard that too, but I thought it was the English accent messing with my head.

  • the songs vibe change so much when its accoustic

  • He changed the lyrics so he's talking to pete, "I got it the wrong way round, i cut you out cos I blamed it on the brown"

  • @BritRock93 No I think they changed it since they released it in all the other versions it's always been brown...

  • i love this fucking sad song

  • marvellous.what a songwriter.

  • Carl is nothing without Doherty, and Doherty is nothing without Carl, and the 2 guys are nothing without Libertines

  • Love the heart and of course Carl's classic look and sound.

  • oh bloody wonderful ...

  • his voice is perfect

  • this version reminds me of billy bragg

  • Why does he introduce this as You can't stand me?

  • Damn... This is heavy.

  • Love it Carl. Come a long way since the Jazz Bar. I blamed it on the brown Lad. Simply the best son. All the best mate.

  • carl is my favourite libertine....

  • Carls An Amazing Performer Even On His Own.

    My 2nd favourite Libertine :)

  • Carl's too hot to be true

  • Stop talking about pete and carl just fucking listen to them you cant compare their as good as each other at everything , the way he says ending fitting i think i just jizzed

  • C'est nul, je ne vois pas pourquoi il joue ça n'a pas d'intérêt.

  • Mortellement sexy... :)

  • You can see how tightly he is gripping the guitar at the end of the first chorus... pure emotion. he means every word that he is saying. beautiful.

  • No, you've got it the wrong way round, just shut me up and blamed it on the brown" now is "So, I got it the wrong way around? If I cut you out it’s because I blamed it on the brown", "You tried to pull the wool, I wasn't feeling too clever. And you take all that they're lending Until you needed mending" now is: "You could’ve pulled the wool, I wasn’t feeling to clever You see if you take all that we’re lending,It doesnt need any mending now."

  • @rhiannonnugentx erm, as much as a fan i am of pete, what you just said is utter bollocks

  • This video was put on youtube on my 12th birthday!!!! Carl's great and so is Pete. I dream of a permanent Libertines reunion. xOxO

  • Beautiful sounding guitar,. Think it's the Martin D-28 or is it the Takamine F-360 (Lawsuit era).

    Anyway, I like it!

  • Met Carl last night he is such a nice guy....hi ya!

  • WATCH MY VERSION

  • is it me or does this song not sound as good without both pete and carl

  • @declanacdc of course it doesn't. It's still good, but not AS good.

  • this is heart breaking.

'if i cut you out it's coz i blamed it on the brown'

  • He sings " ...and hope our LOVE is never ending" instead of "luck"

  • poor carl, he sems lonely without peter

  • OMG i hadnt seen this one yet! love itttttt

  • a genius !:D

  • i creid

  • I'm lost for words, he made that so emotional, amazing as ever!

  • adam green?

  • @desasterz Walden is deff the best guitarist, but they are different types of musicians, you can't really compare them. Peter Wolfe is great though. I think Graham Coxon is amazing too. Adam Ficek is a very talented musician, also, check out his solo work-under the monica: roses, kings, castles, different to the shambles and Peters solo work, very good though.

  • @desasterz You are a fool if you think Carl isn't top of that list.

If we want to sail the good ship Albion, we NEED Carl and Peter.

    Also, you mispelled Carl's surname.

  • Goosebumps, and a tear in my eye, all you do is make me cry, a reunion would make me happy indeed, greetings from a lonely Swede.

  • fuck, i love him

  • fuck, youre stupid

  • Carl is a fucking genius

  • his solo preformances are right up there with petes. wish there was more. great stuff

  • Does he introduce this as "You Can't Stand Me"? That cuts me up man. Sad song.

  • @dogsbodyd Yeah. They wrote it about each other

  • I LOVE PETE! if it wasn't 4 him by now i would have never start playing guitar.

  • Incorrect.

  • i am talking at the acoustic guitar playing level. I can't fell the same armony that pete uses in his plays. The note. The small notes between one note and another. Carl just play normal. And the timing in the acoustic is not as in the electric. It must be more armonic.

  • @JonieAB why the fuck do you keep dropping the h its harmony and harmonic

  • i don't agree with that. both have beautiful voices

  • yes bau see how Pete flow with the guitar ... its not the same thing.

  • just listen to dirty pretty things, you can´t deny that carl issn´t as brilliant as pete. plus Carl has a better scence for the right key.

  • libertines to headline leeds 2010!!!

  • fingers fucking crossed! it would be worth the 200 quid just to see that!!

  • heavenly

  • ohmygod..how can i have missed this clip..?

    one word. amazing.

    love you carlos.

  • Its great that Carl finally plays this, although Pete does a great performance when playing this song, Its seems a bit more fitting and emotive when carl plays it

  • fucking amazing

  • if you could have either pete or carls talent which would u choose? pretty fucking hard question isnt it

  • Honestly, I'd take Carl's by a nose. He has more of an ear for music than Pete. Pete's lyrics do tend to be a tad better than Carl's, but only a bit. In their solo stuff, I like the Dirty Pretty Things albums better than the Babyshambles albums. As a whole I think their songs are put together better and are more consistently good, but I like "Fuck Forever" better than any one of the DPT's songs by themselves.

They're both amazing artists, that's that. Now they need to get back together ASAP.

  • It really is like choosing between John and Paul.

  • You could definitely say that. In my opinion Paul&Carl are overall better rock musicians, but as artists in general I think Pete&John are more talented. Which is the better then? I honestly can't tell..

  • Good comparison, I think Pete, like john is the more poetic idealist, whilst i think Carl can write the more catchy riffs with more mass appeal like mcartney did. I mean hey jude is no imagine, but is the more catchy tune.

All in all i think the highs are higher with petes talent but the lows are lower. (again just like John)

  • Peter by a whisker. Peter is a ghostly presence and Carl is a full on sex god. Loyalty song is my favourite of all time so it has to be Peter. But Truth Begins is right behind. Wheelies etc.

  • Truth Begins is a stupidly good song, have some karma.

  • Its like Pete makes the poetry and Carl makes it move, both are superb on their own but incredible when put together,

  • @benbebin well, carl did write this song, but i do still miss pete's part in the performance....but what became of the likely lads is really carl's song, just as pete's is time for heroes

  • @antileetclub Actually Pete wrote this. With someone else outside of the band but I can't remember who off the top of my head. This is an epic video though. Emotional!

  • @benbebin

The heart needs a soul to live, and a soul can't live without a heart.

Carl's the heart and Peter's the soul.

Neither can survive without the other.

  • Bollocks.

Barat taught Pete how to play guitar, for starters. So your little comment crashes and burns instantly, just on that note.

Pete could never play those riffs like in "Death On The Stairs" while he sings the way Carl does. Carl also sings in key, where as Pete struggles to do so a lot of the time.

So more talented? No, not by any means.

Just as important and relevant? Yes. Certainly.

Carl is the heart and Pete is the soul.

    That's that.

  • i couldn't have put it better

  • One of the best youtube comments I have ever read but don't underestimate Pete's voice

  • It has certainly come a long way since Up The Bracket. This is never more prevalent than on Grace/Wasteland.

Regardless, even in his solo performances he often struggles to remain in key. It's not really a bad thing, because it allows him to put much more emotion into the song, I feel. He makes it work somehow, and that's really all that counts in the end.

  • Like this?... You may like A Band Called Bert

  • man this makes me break up a little inside as there is no pete :(

  • this is fucking beautiful!

  • What's the model of his guitar please ?

  • Nice, that he changed the lyrics to "So, I got it the wrong way round" As Pete orginally sang, "no, you've got it the wrong way"

  • yeh i liked that

  • this is an awesome performance. so heartfelt

  • Who needs Pete?

    I like them both.

  • I fucking need pete!

  • who needs pete when we got carl

  • other way round!

  • Me!!!! even carl needs Pete!!!!!!

  • Amazing voice

  • love the lyric changes to show his side, sad

  • i can see, hear and feel carlos' pain when he plays this song, he really loved pete, and still does

  • respect

  • carl is so hot!

  • Carl, you are the man.

  • Oh, this stuff sounds cool acousticly even if Carl plays it alone!

  • Carl and pete was a good alchimy ;)

  • i like how he subtly changed the lyrics

  • Carl is a better Musician.

    Pete is a better Lyricist.

  • well said

  • Totally agree...

But i do prefer carls voice kind of...thuogh they osund best of all together

  • together they are unreal though...perfect combination

  • agreed!

  • couldn't agree more

  • @superleenaylor i think that Carl is a better singer, but not musician. But ist just my opinion.

  • i love his voice, it's so addictive

  • carl is by far the better guitarist even tohough i'm addicted to pete.

at least i can see it the way it is.

  • yeah, carl taught pete how to play, pete has always admitted that although he loves to play guitar hes not that great x

  • what the fuck! carl barat is fucking amazin on the guitar!

  • "can see why pete dropped this loser this is like a 15 year old at his guitar lesson "

1)pete didnt "drop" him, he basically got himself kicked out of the band.

2)carls a far better guitarist than pete, and carl actually taught him how to play guitar.

    3)fuck off.

  • hahahaha...no need for me to say anything!

perfectly put...without his charm n charisma and carl pete would have been a no one!!

although petes acoustic version of this is better, for me anyway x

  • carl, (l)

  • (I was talking to dragonfitter , great vid by the way !)

  • ah i met Carl at the afterparty of Dirty Pretty Things in Dublin, great fun! smokin smoke in a karaoke bar til 5am and then to a house party!! good fun!!

  • "I got it the wrong way round, I blamed it on the brown" thats a really nice touch

    fantastic,love carl

  • fucking hot and good

  • this video brings it all back. all the indie bands after the libertines have been a pale imitation, a muddle of wannabe youths.

  • Both Pete and Carl are amazing. Get back together now while it still matters, not as some fat middle-aged need the money renuion at the bloody Albert Hall in 20 years time.

  • Carl Barat is amazing! amazing song xxx

  • carl and pet were soul m8s when u find the one u know they made wonderfull music i'd love 2 see them back 2gether (one day)

  • they fuckin love each other and this vid proves that

you can hear the anger in his voice and you can see desire in his eyes

  • every time i hear carl and pete sing each others parts of the song when they play it alone, it feels just as sad as the last time i saw it. i wish they'd get back together

  • "so "I" got it the wrong way round, "I" cut you out coz "I" blamed it on the brown", i think tht carl is tryin to tell people how he feels about the libertines n tht its all his fault, the man is a legend, along with pete! y cant they jst get back together? c'mon boys please work sumthing out :D x

  • "if I cut you out, its cos i blamed it on the brown" he aint apologising for anything
