gondry's style is too precious, too twee for film. it worked in eternal sunshine because of kaufman's screen play, but otherwise the gimmicks are only good for music videos. i dont really care to see him work with kaufman again.

I dont think so. I think they add a bit of spice to the film making. Yes 90 % of film is story. But film can take us to other places - through imagery, as well, which is what Gondry is trying to do. There is no harm in letting Gondry put his signature style over his film making as its just allowing him to tell his story his way. he's trying new ways out, pushing and pulling. How will we ever evolve ideas if we didnt do that through trying them out?

I found this film rather enjoyable. However, there were times I thought it was way too busy both visually and storywise. It's pacing was just all over the place. I really don't blame people that disliked it. The characters and story setting are simply not the type that most people can even remotely relate to.

i dont think many of the people who watched the movie and didnt like it really got what it was about. all the critics hated it, but i thought it was good. Stephan is a mentally handicapped man that all his coworkers and his neighbor take pity on and act like his friends, the story is in his point of view so this never becomes clear. i really liked how that was subtly shown in the movie.
