  • I feed my BP live he has never had frozeb before i do this because its cheaper and a lot less of a hassle of thawing and storing, also, if ur worried about the mouse hurting the snake smack it against the wall to stun it, that way it wont bite ur snake.

  • @Obscurus28 I wouldn't have the heart to to smack in on the wall I will just do frozen thawed

  • what if I cant find live mice/rats in my area?

  • @justsomerandomdudeya you are basing your knowledge on one bp, he is probably basing it on many. Its like science you need many control groups for your anwers to accurate

  • i also feed frozen thawed maybe once a month or 2 i might give it a live one just for a treat ill start that soon..maybe ;)

  • actually the biggest snake was 49 feet :)

  • I always feed my bp frozen and he loves it and shows no signs of weakness and has no issues. So to any other bp owners that feed frozen, don't take this guys word for it.

  • they are called heat pits,,,dummy...-___-

  • ive always read if you feed a snake in capticity live prey its ano no because theres always achance the snake will get injured by the mouse, its what it says on snake care sites

  • @kaleluk31 but like the guy said in the video.. it kills vitamins when frozen

most care sheet writers are those care for every animal "type'a" guys but what they dont understand is they eat meat and stuff just like most other things on this earth

im one of those guys who couldnt stomach seeing/hearing a mouse/rat die

but yet i strongly advise to people who wouldnt know how to suppliment the vitamins lost when freezing the prey :)

  • my ball wouldnt go anywhere with those mice i have to feed it rats

  • "a KAH ne vore"

  • is tht an adult

  • It's illegal to feed snake a live prey in my country Finland.

  • @ARSA525 that's an interesting fact i didnt know that

  • @ARSA525 i hear its illegal to feed live fish in aare state !

  • @MrAirgunlover umm k

  • @MrAirgunlover ok so why did u say it wont blink?!

  • @MrAirgunlover why???????????? reply!

  • My Royal will not even entertain a dead rat. You can dangle it front of him all day long and he won't even blink!! I've even tried braining them and still nothing!

  • @inclemento snakes dont have eye lids so he cant blink -_-

  • what is the mouse/rat thing that the guy was talking about?

  • Or instead of freezing the prey to protect your snake you can put the mouse in a bag and smack it against a wall to stun it.

  • @cypherpunk11 LOL

  • my snake will usually only eat wen no ones around ands it dark so i live the rat in all the time and my ball takes care of it

  • i say let it eat live cause they do it in the wild

  • bad substrate you should have reptile bark

  • @reptileguy31 like aspen

  • i couldnt deed live mice its mean but nature so

my corn snake eats frozen (then thawed out) all the time hes fine

  • nice pastel BP!

  • i get free rats my mom breads em

  • What a load of shit. You can feed them live, only if you want to have wasted a load of cash on a ball python! Its worth feeding them frozen.

Its these sort of people who are destroying our hobby and making things like HR669 happen.

  • u mean only one hopper a week, not snake? lol

  • This guy is such a bullshitter. Frozen is fine.

  • Is frozen really fine because I'm getting another ball python and I would rather feed it frozen then see it sqeeze the life out a live mouse.

  • Frozen works perfectly. Just thaw your mice out in hot (not boiling) water while still in the small plastic bags they come in and shake the mouse around a bit with a pair of tongs. You'll get the same response as you would with live mice.

  • just guarentee her it wont escape its cage

  • Plz I need help (this message is to anyone who can help/answer) My mom is a snake phobic and wont let me get a snake.(I will give reasons for her phobia to anyone willing to help me) She absolutley hates them and I adore them. I have tried for years to convince her but to no avail. Plz help if possible. I will provide details as seen necessary.

  • hey, my ball python is only about, roughly, 1 year and 7 months old..and shes Eating a good 2 rat pups every week, is this too much for her? i dont want her to like break a rib because shes growing too fast, it seems like shes growing allot

    any input?

  • Ball pythons need only one snake a week. No more, no less. You are in fact over feeding her and it isn't healthy for her.

  • i wish we would have longer vids :)

  • do you think that a cage 900mm long x 482mm high x 450mm wide would suit a ball python ???

  • genreal rule, big enough that the snake can turn around in comfortably. They dont need a lot of room, and something too big could make them feel insecure and spend mre time in a hide. But end to end, large enough to 180 in. so there is no one size fits all until the snake is fully growns.

  • my terrarium to a single male Python Regius is about 100cm long, 50cm high and abouth 40cm wide. (or something like that) so yes. that could work.

  • they eat bites out of the snake... wtf!??!

  • The 'negatives' of feeding frozen are debatable. Oh no a vitamin dies that the snake MIGHT need, compared to the dangers of feeding live such as death to the snake, parasites and sickness the food can be loaded with, etc.

Plenty of breeding animals are fed F/T exclusively. There's not really a problem.

  • Many use freshly killed. Which kills the whole F/T and live debate.

  • Not really at all, though I agree that it's important to mention the option. FK means it's like live only minus the physical danger, but there's still the issue of rodent parasites or whatnot that can infect the snake. Those sorts of problems are nil with F/T.

  • That's why one should raise them themselves. ^_^ No parasites. Small scale isn't too bad.

  • That's not quite feasible for a vast amount of people. Not to mention that many who do this have no vested interest in the animals' needs save the very basics of life.

  • pythongs hahaha!

  • thongs...?

    lol :P

  • use a nightlamp.... its like the moonlight.....

  • i have a ball python and when i turn tha heat lamp off at night tha temp. gets to like 60! and i have a heat pad....which didnt do shit! so i got a red light for at night time..Its get around 78-79. i have heard that if it has light all tha time that it is bad for tha snake. WILL THA RED LIGHT BE OK FOR NIGHTTIME??

  • i would just leave the red light on 24/7 and trash the regular bulb.. And make sure you have the heat pad. And also make sure the red light is over the hot side, and the heat pad is under the hot side. Keep the water dish on the cool side. And make sure there are atleast two hides (one on the hot side and one on the cold). This will allow the snake to regulate its body temps. itself...

  • the one is a normal the more yellow one is a pastel

  • Nah, its a super pastel, pastels don't look like that...

  • that snake has beautiful colors i want that kind of ball python what is it called?

  • THIS guy knows wht he is talking about!!!!

    great video!!!!

  • Had one very good snake for beginners!

  • I own a ball python. He's about 5 feet long. They make great pets. Never had any aggression problems, they are very tame animals and have no problem being handled. Just be gentle and remember that this is a living creature and you won't have any problems. I feed mine live rats and have never had a problem with it.

  • Don't fall in love with your food! We had a snake that would develop a affinity with her food. You could sense it! Got to the point we had to tube feed her. Snake have heart and react in according to the energy around them. Never did like the live food thing!

  • so how much are they?

  • over 9000

  • lol a little bit of DBZ humor?

  • Depends what morph you get, Normals are about like 50-100 from what I've seen I bought mine over priced but I really love her so I don't mind.

  • wow i would love a snake but i wouyld kinda be scared once it grew to a size that can kille melol. No but seriously that snake is beautiful.

  • ball pythons only grow to about 4 maybe 5 feet and as long as you dont agitate it can't really kill you

  • rofl the only snake that can kill ahuman that is avable for a pet legally is a burmese python and let alone that has to be 25-30 feet for that lol so the possibility of u getting a snake like that is slim so u can get any snake u please at a pet store

  • really? lol I guess I know what I want for Christmas! lol tnaks mate.

  • and retics

  • No there are a lot of snakes that can be purchased legally that can kill a human. Retics, anacondas, big specimens of red tailed boas, etc. Burmese pythons are only the 3rd largest snake in the world. The first being A reticulated python (retic), and the 2nd being an anaconda... I'm not sure if its the yellow or green anaconda that gets bigger though.... Gotta look it up....

  • green

  • no, anaconda is the biggest, retics are the second biggest

  • anacondas are biggest in girth not length, retics are biggest in length. The longest snake ever recorded was a 32 ft. reticulated python

  • maybe you're right, i remember reading that anacondas are the biggest though

  • the record is 34 ft for retic

  • no 32 ft. look it up

  • differnt places have differnt answers.

  • the actual longest reticulated python was 33 feet

  • ok i guess you were there

  • anacondas are the heaviest retics are the longest

  • @zandone45 and much more dangerous pets due to more aggressive and their size gives them tremendous bite power.

  • no Retics are the biggest and longest der is one that was found that is 4 stories long( 50 feet, 900 and somethn punds)

  • where do you get your sources of information. its wayyy out

  • i call bullshit on you

  • by the way it was my birthday today and i got 1 so soryy i can not have it,but there is someone who wants a ball python !!!!!!!!!! danks dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • also give me a couple good reasons of why i should get a snake so i can tell my dad and maybe get 1

  • north carolina

  • I will give $20??????????????

  • what state do you live in.?

  • I take the ball python how much????????????

  • umm.. i dont really care. how much do you want for him.?

  • do any of you wanna buy a ball python or a albino corn snake.?

  • CRANIVORE!!!! LOL

  • This guy seems retarded. Why is he holding it like a baby he looks so uncomfortable? You think he would be more comfortable with it considering he's such an "expert".

  • he's not uncomfortable, I handle 2 ball pythons all the time and that's how I hold them as well. they need to feel supported.

  • I got a ball python for free because someone had left in in there w/ a mouse and there is a big scar down its spine now, and they couldn't sell it. So leaving a mouse in there isn't a good idea at all.

  • I got vids of my reptiles check em out :-)

    1.1 green tree pythons

    2.0 Mali uromastyx

    0.1 Savannah Monitor

    0.0.1 Ball Python

  • Now , I have my female ball python, she have beautiful colors

I make a vid in not many days.

Do you feed living mice or alife?

My ball doesn t want to eat dead mice...

  • try heating them up with a hair dryer =]

  • i feed myn bunny rabits ;]

  • holy shit how big is it?

  • 6 and a half feet its about 20 yrs old

  • its a nece snake but

  • ball pythons are nocturnalm so they don't need UVA/UVB.

  • I always start the babies out on live and then switch to F/T when they are older. This has always worked for me.

  • mm very healthy lookin snake. beautiful colors. but he is rong about one thing. i feed my baby frozen all the time, and ive taken him to the vet, and he has just fine vitamin supplements. ]:<

  • uhhhh....... what is the definition of a rodent

  • unwanted animals like rats and racoons and whatever but some ppl prefer them as pets

  • That's "vermin." Rodents have two continuously-growing incisors in the upper and lower jaws which must be kept short by gnawing. Raccoons are not rodents. They are of a completely separate scientific Family (procyonidae).

  • yes raccoons are more closely related to bears

  • A Rodent is not an unwanted animal. A Rodent is a member of the family Rodentia. All Rodents have two upper incisor that don't stop growing unless gnawed upon. That is what a Rodent is. Not an unwanted animal. They become unwanted because it is in there nature to explore, just like all animals. And to them exploring means chewing. lol

  • And pooping and spreading disease

  • iam thinking of buying a 2nd ball python but iam wondering if my first one will eat the new one? will it?

  • it might, even if they are the same size, its rare but it has happened to people. i would get another tank

  • Yes

  • i heard people rub gerbils on rats or mice. It makes the snake want to eat. Thats wat i heard idk if its true.

  • When it comes to feeding frozen this guy has no clue what he's talking about. People have been feeding F/T for YEARS with no problems. I hate when people pass off their OPINIONS as fact.

  • Thiamine/ B vitamins are disassociated when frozen. Snakes fed with frozen food have been shown to be more apt for respiratory disease, a common problem especially in ball pythons.

  • This is simply not true.

F/T vs Live argument has been around for as long as I have been keeping snakes(which has been 20 years)and it will never go away. I have fed my snakes F/T along with many others with no problems or any side effects.

As far as your other comment about only rats fighting back, that is also wrong. We've had snakes come into our clinic(3 ball pythons, a BCI and a retic) with nasty wounds from mice. Two of the balls and the retic died.

  • Believe what you want, but if you're trying to tell me a reticulated python died from mouse wounds.... well I doubt the credibility of your clinic

  • The size of a wound isn't as significant as its location, and any diseases a prey animal may be carrying.

  • how do snakes survive in the wild with these dangerous rodents? LOL

  • The rodents can leave and find other sources of food they arent trapped with the snake.

  • Even predators can become prey.

  • I feed my Ball python live mice and my RT Boa live rats. Live feeding is always better in my opinion.

  • Everybody has their own opinions, but I disagree with a few things that are being said here.

#1: Rats are usually better to feed bps because they have bigger bones, and therefore more calcium.

#2: It's much safer to feed frozen, because most live mice/rats can and will attack the bp in defence.

  • Only rats fight back and if you feed your snake mice you have to feed it more than one once its larger.

  • That one's a super pastel, right? Ball python morphs are totally awesome, but even the normals are gorgeous!!

  • he can some tell me if i rat-snake can live wit a ball python (my rat snake is sofar almost 3 feet) some can they live togeather?

  • You need to ask yourself a simple question "why are you considering doing this?" More often than not it's for the keepers astetic pleasure or a space issue. In short, no house each snake in its own enclosure unless breeding.

  • nvm my dad is an expert on snakes and he says its all about if ball pythons (or another snake )eats other snakes witch it doesnt and the tempurature

  • i believe the rat he is talking about is the soft fur rat

  • yea balls are for beginners unfortunately thats all i ever had affordable mild mannered only got bit once after she ate i moved her log nabbed me also had a male and he had a infection in his mouth and he had to be force fed

  • Is it common for a ball python to nudge or rub it's nose on objects while it's NOT going through a shed?

  • How old is this clip?

Yes... they recognize the scent of a mouse from their past... *shakes head*

If he's talking about from generations back, like... out in the wild... that's just silly. Ball pythons in the wild have a huge variety of prey, and neither domestic mice nor rats are on the menu.

  • All of my ball pythons eat frozen or prekilled domestic rats and all are fine and healthy. Only one had to be weaned off of mice and that took about a month. Mice just aren't good prey for such a large bodied snake.

This may be a bit dated... but either way... I'm not trusting that creepy old man's advice.

  • My python is bathing in it's water dish, and I've never seen him do that before. Is this normal, or is something wrong??

  • perfectly fine, blls like to soak in water sometimes.

  • You might wanna check him/her for mites/parasites because ball pythons and all snakes are known to soak when they have mites. It's completely possible it doesn't have mites, but check anyways!

  • its normal

  • Also if you break the mouses' neck it will cause the mouse to twitch involuntarily, which of course is movement detectable by the snake, then there's no chance for the mouse to harm the snake.

  • yea i had a tick on mine when i first got her gotta watch em for stuff after you first get em

  • Neat video and very informative. My boyfriends Ball Python Toby doesn't wait to eat. He starts striking because we even get the mouse in the cage.

  • cool

  • that sucks

  • you can leave a dead mouse in its not guna bite it

  • rly?

i think everyone knows that a dead mouse cant bite

  • well duh ....

  • But guys remember with dead animals comes bacteria and disease and possibly death for the snake. Yuck!

  • not if you freeze them it kills everything

  • A frozen animal that's thawed out will still rot.

  • HOLYSHIT i did somthing wrong with my other snake. i left the mouse in all night, and went to bed, but when i woke up the mouse was sleeping in the middle of the snake LOL i ain lying iam forreal, so i then took the mouse out and fed it to snake 5days later

  • never leave a mouse in with the snake unattended! my friend did that and when he came back the mouse had chewed the snake down to its spine and it died shortly after

  • i wont do it again man trust me. and taht is so sad

  • You shouldn't even feed a snake in their cage anyways.

  • i dont feed it in its cage i have a feeding cage....

  • Ahh.

  • Not necessarily true. While it's a safe practice to go by, as long as the snake is regularly taken out of its enclosure (or "disturbed," if you prefer) for reasons other than feeding... ie. regular handling and socialization, most will not make that "hand = food" association... unless, of course, you're a dumbass who just handled rodents before reaching in.

  • I'd say the only way to feed in a cage without worrying about the snake getting attacked is by removeing all the hides, water dishes, and any extra plants or accessories you have. Then, put the food it. Lets you have easier access to the snake to make sure the mouses head is away from it and not biting after the strike. Unless you feed F/T. In which case if the mouse was attacking, you would have other things to worry about... zombie mouse on the lose.

  • omg in briton we r not aloud 2 feed live stuff 2 snakes

  • Good. I'm glad it's like that.

  • Today i hve to feed my Ball python

  • cool video, i just got me a baby ball python 2 days ago, can u gimme tips on how i can maintain humidity in the habitat?

  • we'll be talking about that in a new video with Greg Graziani. It will be up in a month or so, depends on where you live and how hot, cold or cool you keep your house. Thanks for watching.

  • try moss
