2) Light's death, it's just so sad, L's death wasn't as sad, because L lived on as Near, and completed his task of finding kira, even in his grave, while Light's look at the last moment made me shed a tear (metaphor, I don't cry)

3) Lelouch's death, SADDEST FUCKING DEATH EVER, all he wanted was to create a peaceful world for his sister...nuff said..

Personally i think Nagisa or Ushio's death in clannad afterstory is number 1 in any anime. Those 2 deaths are the only time i've cried from any source of entertainment. And i've watched a lot of anime.

@waterstars10 he didn't want to die, in the movie kimura had to kill rat or his pregnant girlfriend would get killed and so he had to kill rat. rat knew that kimura was going to do this so he just accepted it. it was also really hard for kimura because rat practically taught him everything he needed to know and was like a father to him.

Wolfwood dying made me quit watching trigun, still never finished it, but it didn't make me sad. This is just my own choice for number one, not a slam on your personal choices. But I'd put the all time saddest anime ever that I've seen as Grave of the Fireflies. That movie made me cry actual adult male tears like I'd lost someone I cared for. Evil movie made me feel emotions.

The saddest deaths are the deaths that are unpredictable. Like when Ushio from 'Clannad' died or when Otanashi in 'Angel Beats!' had a flash back on how he died. But the only death worth seeing over and over again is that ass-hole Makoto from 'School Days'. Proud to see his ass dead; giving men a bad name and all :D

These may not be the saddest deaths to you, but they're sad when you watch the whole anime and actually get attached to the character.
