  • @planetery "don't fall in the trap of Buddha" says Dae Poep Sa Nim, Christianity is as good as buddhism. You should respect all religions ...

  • TINA IS MY HERO AND I HAVE THE HIGHEST RESPECT FOR THIS MAGNIFICENT WOMEN.

  • I always wondered why her music went down hill.

  • Wow! I swear just by watching this my hands got warmer! No kidding! And I'm a member of no cult, so I don't intend to make any free publicity.

    saludos!

  • I wondered why she always looked so young?

  • esto es distorsión...

  • @piauri57 distorcion ???? jajajaja pobrecito see a dr.

  • Nichiren Shoshu chant isn't like that. YES IT'S SGI chant! they don't have a rule when they chant. they think that chant is like singing. hahah. anyway Nichiren Shu isn't nichiren buddhism anymore sometimes they chant nammyohorengekyo sometimes they chant namumyohorengekyo. hahah -__-

  • ahahaha

    typical cut of Soka Gakkai

  • YOU CHANT UNTIL THE CHANT CHANTS YOU...That is when you know the meaning of the chant... what are her intentions?

  • god damn based god...

  • she seem sso peacful an dshe ahs a soothing personality...

  • when she speeds up, is she just quickly repeating nam myoho renge kyo or are there more words then that?

  • WOW! what an intensely intimate and beautiful moment.

  • Yoko Ono's version is much better!

  • Amazing ! Tina Turner is Buddhist !

  • Did Ike turner write this song ?

  • @satyrix1 are u serious? Really

  • wow tina sounds very beautiful im very happy she shared this with us, everyone can chant, just practice and let tina open up your heart chakras so we all chant more:)chanting is one of the oldest forms of connecting with your inner spirits, all of us need more of that in this world of illusion, we all need to stop fearing and start living in our own god center light and be as one chanting together our own chants from our souls:)

  • Contrary to popular belief the Odaimoku recitation of Lotus Sutra title was already practiced in Tendai Hokke Shu which Nichiren was a member of. As a qualified Tendai Hokke Shu priest, Nichiren also did Shikan meditation, he did Nenbutsu Chanting, and he did Tantric practices. He did not invent or create Odaimoku, but he focused strongly on it and made it the main practice. This is how the Odaimoku became the main practice of Nichiren various sects.

  • A) awesome ref. to the turtle! NOT MANY people are say the chants well so kudos for them to give their heart to it. B) confused by the Buddha statue. Buddha said pray not to me, I am a man like any other, pray to the law of cause and effect. C) chanting will make life better, but one should chant with a clear mind, not focused on a 'wants or needs' perhaps a 'want for all living kind' but not personal. D) all you who are Buddhists consider being vegetarian - or you're lying. THINK!

  • each person has the potential to be a Buddha... just chant

    NAM-MYOHO-RENGE-KYO the mystic law

  • @n3oconker

How does one pronouce the word, I don't understand what is being said?

  • Tina Turner is Nichiren Shoshu, SGI, or Nichiren Shu? Nichiren Shoshu and SGI are no buddha gautama statue and nichiren daishonin statue, Nichiren Shoshu and SGI only use the gohonzon. and Nichiren Shu have buddha gautama, nichiren daishonin statue and the gohonzon too.

  • @dickyfreaks She' s in SGI, as 90% of Nichiren Buddhists out of Japan. Personally, I' m into Nichiren Shu.

  • I chant every day and night. I dare you to chant evin iff only for 30 days. And if your life dosnt change for the better. You where chanting something else...

  • Kaunis... ;)))

  • Glozell brought me here!!! Like if she brought you here!

  • ndbchantingforanimals(dot)org

  • I find this hard to masturbate to

  • Jesus is real Salvator, Tina! I love you!

  • Going once, Going twice, SOLD! To the lady with the giant bell.

  • Is she impersonating Bob Dylan?

  • @FredBR999 O _ O

  • Very nice.. Sound a litlle funny to a Cro person.. but Im full of resprect :)

  • So is Tina and SGI member or Nichiren Shoshu- the priesthood???

  • SORRY!

  • What does purity have to do with it? I think labeling someone as not purist or purist is simply another way to create exclusivity.

The title Nam Myoho Renge Kyo is a dead give away for life being a constant change, a constant rhythm of cause and effect. How can anything then be pure? It is all simply cause and effect.

I, for one, think that Tina is creating a great cause here in sharing this powerful mantra and in illiciting discussion.

    Simply the best!

  • Nichiren Buddhism is base on the final and what many consider the most important teaching of Buddha that anyone can become a Buddha and Buddha is in everyone heart. the teaching which is scripted in the sanskrit scripture "Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo" .

  • LOVE...

  • TINA i love you

  • Tina, devotion to faith should have no display of ego. Buddhism teaches that Ego is the problem in most life.

  • This is a Japanese Sect with the Temple at the base of Mount Fuji. It has nothing to do with Tibetan Buddhism or the Dali Lama. Like Christianity there are many Sects of Buddhism that span the Globe, originating in India.

  • Thank you for the info re:bell. However, could you pls tell me the significance of the "bell" at certain times during the chant? I love the idea of the "God within." That goes along fine with my lifelong Christian belief of a triune Being... and me being body, soul and spirit. I am always searching. I am very intrigued after listening to the Dali Lama. Until I know any different, I will try your idea of a can at the times Tina does. Thank you very much.

  • @Grandmamaakamom I think of the idea of the "God within" as a metaphor for "Buddha-nature." We all have this innate Buddha-nature inside us. By chanting nam myoho range kyo, we polish ourselves and bring about our highest life-condition. It is what help us goes through the 9 worlds into the 10th. (You should ask about that one :-)

The bells and other things are great but the true essence of the practice is chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo with sincerity and conviction. Bells are not necessary.

  • you can use an old tin and a spoon or any thing a pot and a chop stick. Save up for a lovely bell ,you can get tiny ones for a few dollars.

  • Would you please tell me why the "bell? If I am on disability and have very little extra money, where might I purchase a small "bell?" Thank you.

  • I had to post that sorry

  • WoW.

  • Tina, you are a bit late and why would you allow this?. Herbie Hancock, Bennie Maupin, Buster William were linked into this in 1973. We used to drive to Santa Monica to Chant together. I am not certain why this was recorded, but no Buddhist would be a party to his spectacle. You must have been caught off-guard. Have you been to Ettiwanda?

  • @bransonbelle Yep. the Shakamuni statue is a dead giveaway. Tina is not a purist.

  • @BringOnTheJoy "Just give me some Peyote and a Hang-glider." - Albert D. Xavier.

  • @tiffanyjeanfineart Who taught u that "intent" is all that is important? If so, u might as easily chant "itsy bitsy fishy." Each character & word, according 2 Nichiren (not you), is a living Buddha & should be chanted w/ deepest reverence & care. Don't hurry, don't slur. If u chant something OTHER than this sutra, then u're not practicing Nichiren's teaching. Chanting "dirty goopy booger" is different than chanting "devotion 2 the wonderful lotus dharma." R U chanting w/ devils? or Buddhas?

  • @paineite i understand what your saying but i go to the cultural center for Sunday with sensei and you know what she sounds just like everyone else in there chanting!!! further more it doesnt matter how you sound. as long as you give it your all with the deepest sincerity. It is not our right to judge her! let the women have peace. what has this world come to.

  • @starr0908child Dear Star0908child, thank you for your note. I "hear" and understand you. Remember, though, sometimes strictness IS compassion. If you ever want to hear Gongyo done clearly and with the ichinen of the shoji ichidaiji (the one essential thing of greatest significance) get in touch. I'll set you up.

  • whoaaa, I love it :), again than you Ms Tina

  • I can't believe she chants so quickly! Maybe it's my southern accent and difficulty pronouncing Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo at times. What a wonderful feeling chanting brings! I agree with LuLu you can just sense her gratitude and humility.

  • SHE GOIN TAH HELL!

  • I don't know if you've noticed but this (or any other kind of) mantra is simply an analogy to the promises we give to ourselves on a daily basis,no matter the nationality. How come? Well, repetitive sentences express our desire to change bad circumstances into good ones. Example? Imagine a person does a mistake. Then makes the same again. At this point the person will start to think:"I will not do it again! I will not do it again!", etc. Outcome? Yes, no more that mistake being made.

  • (continued) If someone feels strong enough to tell themselves not to make a mistake again, idea of repetitive sentences - promises not to do it again - will usually appear in their head. Tina wasn't as her self-esteem was basically shredded to pieces at that time,so she needed to be "reminded" of that repetitive power of words. This buddist mantra was totally something new to her so through its pure novelty she gradually grasped willingness to "tell herself to change something".

  • (continued) I don't know if that makes sense to you, youtube guys, buy if you give it a thought, you will see what I mean. I study psychology, btw.

Lastly, I have a message to Tina: what has happened to you in the past, is NOT your fault, darling. xxx

  • 南無妙法蓮花經。

Nam Mo Dieu Phap Lien Hoa Kinh.

    남무묘법연화경.

  • strong, black woman gotta luv her

  • I am a Nichiren Shoshu Buddhist (I chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo). Have all my life. I was confused why she has a big statue of Shakyamuni behind her when we don't worship him, but revere his Lotus Sutra as the ultimate true teaching. Unless that is her butsudan for her Gohonzon. (you are not suppose to film the Gohonzon which is probably why her back is facing it and she is directed toward the camera).

  • I don't like (typed "ike" by mistake ;-) the way she is chanting.

Very superficial and cold and aggressive.

  • @NeaFrea with this Buddhist practice you are able to chant aggressive, angrily, even in tears. It doesn't have to be tranquil sunshine. :)

  • @PeaceRocker01

Really? Never heard this before. Any links where I can read more about it?

  • @NeaFrea Sure :) here is a great site that can explain a lot. sgi-usa[dot]org and go to the "About Buddhism" tab.

  • @NeaFrea and?...

  • @darrenandbutterfly

    सत्याग्रह

  • How does this change ones life? It's ridiculous to see what people will do in order to fill their desire for the true and living God

  • @sungis i'm sorry if i understood it wrong .. but Buddhism is all about bringing that change you are talking about .. regardless of the size.. a small thing that you could accomplish today that you could'int yesterday is also an achievement . Buddhism is not about praying to some god ! its about praying to your inner self to bring out the undiscovered inner potential in you !! chanting helps you realize this and overcome your challenges in life! ! :D

  • @sungis Thrre is many paths to enlightenment, what you call God, we call the LAW, Buddhism is an expansion of God. . You must not be so closed minded. You need to pray more to your God.

  • It is what is in the heart that counts not where a statue is placed

  • I liked it. It is wonderful! From Rio de Janeiro

  • The Lotus Sutra says that you are all as lucky as the one eyed turtle that found the floating log of beautiful smelling sandalwood to sun himself on for having heard this truth in your current life time!! And to hear it from a heavenly goddess of music like Tina Turner makes it even rarer and more precious! NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO!

  • @BleedingHeartedBaldr That was an awsome response! "The Lotus Sutra says that you are all as lucky as the one eyed turtle that found the floating log of beautiful smelling sandalwood to sun himself on for having heard this truth in your current life time!! And to hear it from a heavenly goddess of music like Tina Turner makes it even rarer and more precious! NAM MYOHO RENGE KYO!"

  • That's it?!! I wanted to hear more :(

  • @gggrinz That's not it; it goes on for quite a long time.

  • Amazing.. I had no idea that Ms. Turner knew this..

It was brought to me twice,

by people passing on the streets,

about a year to a year and a half ago..

lovely lady videomaker, thank you for posting this !!

    ♫♥AnnA♥♫

  • Hello Anna!! Have you started chanting? It's really amazing, I've been chanting for the past 7 years, and the changes buddhism has brought into my life are definitely something huge and marvelous. Hope you've given it a try!

  • @FinallyunderstandU Hello Anna!! Have you started chanting? It's really amazing, I've been chanting for the past 7 years, and the changes buddhism has brought into my life are definitely something huge and marvelous. Hope you've given it a try!

  • @angesev1 oh my.. can you believe I just found this ?? SSLol... believe me it is no accident, the timing...

What happened was I was doing another regimen and two people both Asian which I am not so that makes it even more magical,

stopped me within a couple months' time on the street to tell me it was time to change to this chant.. for me to open the

lotus flower which I recently learned is the first chakra, so until I got to the help I am now having, I have been faithful to use this, but...

  • @angesev1 ...but as this is basically an exercise into our attaining godhood I am going into another meditation regimen of JOS which to me will take me

if I have the discipline that ms. Turner shows while reciting Ike's forgotten lost chant, far into attaining godhood. Yes I know what a change that can happen, it helped me find JOS which is a miracle in itself. I know of the buddhist bells, what is this one for, do you

know ?? Thank you for your comment and once again, SSL ((=^.^=))

  • It's ashame that some who would call themselves Buddhists dare to be so judgmental. Not one of you here has attained Buddhahood, and I can see why.

  • @taikodrummer "shame." "dare" "judgmental" "Not one of you has attained Buddhahood."

  • Where's her butsudan???

  • Simply the best...

  • Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo ~~ thanks nichiren.

  • What I see, Buddism seeks for inner harmony with the universe ( among a lot of other things, of course) I do not see anything wrong on Tina having a Statue there, besides it really helps to set the asian mood, it looks beautiful, so there you are in a Place You Like... so you are comfortable and therefore your prayer comes easy. She is not honoring the statue since it is at her back... so no idolization of it is there. Great Video, and thanks Tina I knew of this way of life. Peace, Namasté.

  • It's so sad to see so much discord here.Let's have some peace.

  • Beautiful.....

  • wow!

  • Well its incorrect practice to have a Buddhist statue on your altar. You getting benefits? You can have it away from the altar. or in another room, but not on the altar.

  • @Beatrice4664 but she was infront of the statue and may of been facing her butsadan ... not sure where the rest of the hoben chapter was tho ?

  • Chanting resonates with everyone. Its not something that just works for people who believe in it. You dont have to believe for it to work. It is absolute. People should not discuss something they know nothing about until they have experienced it.. Tina Turner while its great she chants, I have seen her interviewed on larry King LIve, she does not have clear understanding of NMRK, although everyone has different capacities, its important that she is chanting.

  • Comment removed

  • oh Tina thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • felt the peaceful

  • UGHHH!!! This is why Nichiren said "those who propagate the five characters of MYO-HO-RENGE- KYO , should be the last to abuse one another. I live, live, live for the day when we can all get over ourselves and the MAN-MADE additons to the simple act of chanting with joy and appreciation and really propagate this Buddhism in its simplicity. Buddha , Gohonzon, or no.

  • Chant for Japan to see thru this Disaster

  • After the bashing of previous postings, lets go back to the basics that at least she is chanting.

  • @BringOnTheJoy you mean like the judgment you just made? Or the rather kind remonstrance that I posted?

  • The point here is that she does a garbled, incoherent and improper (one hesitates to say sloppy) Gongyo. If as azmildman claims, she is SGI, then SGI needs to clean up her act and teach her how to correctly recite the Lotus Sutra. If she affiliates with the orthodox school of Nichiren Shoshu, then one of our people can do so. Anyone can make a mistake. This video is proof. I'm certain that Ms. Turner has the humility and character to want to do it correctly. Someone should help her.

  • @paineite Tina Turner while she was affiliated with NSA, its not sure she is with SGI, I joined when Tina started practicing. She has lived in Europe for a long time and away from the SGI, Tina was very busy in the 80s and 90's and not sure if she was connected. I agree, she does not do great gongyo and saw her on Larry King many years ago and she doesnt even explain the practice as one who is experienced. What is important that she does chant and doing her best, thats whats important.

  • @Beatrice4664 thanks for your note, Beatrice4664. You're correct, of course, that effort to do one's best is what is most important. I'm certain that she can do better and simply wish that someone in a position to do so would help her.

  • @paineite It is the intent of the person chanting, not the perfection of the act of chanting that will bring someone to enlightenment. By judging Tina you seem to be in the world of animality. I am always blown away by the anger and huge egos of the people that are affiliated with Nichiren Shoshu. You do realize by the very act of you saying if Tina would clean up her act and learn how to correctly recite the Lotus Sutra by one of your people you show that you are in a lower world.

  • @TiffanyJeanFineArt What ego. It is the intent as well as the practice that brings enlightenment. Sorry, I am a true believer of Nichiren Shoshu with access to the Dai Gohonzon. When you take the politics out of your religion, Mr. Ikeda is left with an organization and not a pure faith based religion. That is the difference between a cult and a religion.

  • @946project Does your access to the Dai-Gohonzon somehow make you more capable or deserving of enlightenment?

  • @946project Your own words betray you then. You condemnation of the SGI as a cult is a political act in itself.

After much suffering in her own life, Tina Turner has found her Expedient Means. None of us walk in each other's shoes and we all have our own life-journey to walk. Tina has found a way to bring about kosen-rufu. Who is anyone, priest or layperson, to say that one's practice is wrong.

  • And yes, I am a member of the SGI and a practitioner of Buddhism. Even though many, not all, in the SGI criticize the Nichiren Soshu's priesthood, I will say that for myself, I do not know enough about the priesthood to say it is wrong.

What I do believe, based on my own practice, my own study and my own faith, is that we all have an innate Buddha-nature and all beings have the capability to bring that about.

    Nam Myoho Renge Kyo indeed!

  • @TiffanyJeanFineArt

god, is she insane? what is tina doing? lol

  • Comment removed

  • It is against the beliefs of Nicherin Buddhists to show or film the Gohonzon, so she must appear without it in this video. That is why she is facing the camera instead of her Gohonzon which is probably inside the Buddah or is usually in its place.

  • @Lovesjc13 A Gohonzon would not be inside a Buddah statue. We do not believe in any statues or the big bellied statue. These are different sectors. We can have statues as decorations, but not in proximity of our altar. She could have chanted to a closed butsudan, I am a Nicherin Buddhist, practicing for 26 years.

  • @Beatrice4664 hey im interested in nichirens writings i have some serious questions i would lioke to ask you and since u have been on this path 26 years i think u would be an excelent person that could answer my questions please send me a message if u want to help me out the nature of my questions are personal not public.

  • It could be if that's where she chose to put it. I've had a buddah statue on my alter for the last 3 years. Although I don't pray to the statue nor think its some kind of deity, I like the way it looks. Makes my altar have a very cool asian look that makes me happy. You'll also see many others have lots of different things on their altars that make them happy. But your right about her (Tina) Buddah its probably just decor for the video. (cause it adds to the vibe, I think)

  • @Lovesjc13 Buddha is a Deity you nutcase.. God doesn't care about what is decorative lol

  • @ShaktipatSeer2 Buddha was a man like you and I, he even told us so...there's no diety in Buddhism...not one that can be named anyway.

  • @Lovesjc13 It's Buddha not buddah

  • @Beatrice4664 This paragraph you wrote is exactly why I gravitated towards the Tao, and by that, I mean the Tao Te Ching's actual teachings, that if you need silly rules and regulations, you've lost the ability to listen to your heart, or to be at one with the Tao. Flowing with the Tao, and free, there is no need to impose external restrictions on practice.

  • A true professional, forgot part and made it look good anyway. Gongyo takes about five minutes.

  • @azmildman Are you a Nichiren Buddhist ? I am looking to convert but don't know the steps I need to take

  • @ConradOfficial Yes, I would suggest that you go to the Soka Gakkai International USA Website and find some meetings in your area. Your profile says you are from Atlanta.. I would suggest that you go to the SGI dash USA dot ORG web site to look into practice and study. SGI has a cultural center in your area at 510 14th Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 , Neighborhood: Westside / Home Park , (404) 475-1984

  • @azmildman I don't believe she forgot any part.. she was breathing and only did a small portion of the beginning then hummed her way out of the daimoku. I love the sound of her chanting. Some people have a wonderful tone while they chant; shes one of them.

  • @Lovesjc13 OH, I see, you don't wanna believe what you saw? Good, I guess if she farted and they put it on here, you would believe she did that on purpose, also? The fact IS, they could have filmed her, stopped a minute for her to catch her breath and then started again because ITS A CAMERA. Tina Turner, believe it or not, is HUMAN. She is also 71 years old and is allowed to forget things occasionally. She recited the whole two chapters on the Larry King interview but didn't here because what?

  • As a Nichiren Buddhist, I appreciate that Tina Turner is letting other people know through her example what has changed her life, as it has all of us who practice. She is an example of someone who, as our mentor, Daisaku Ikeda says, "Be Victorious and Never Give Up." Victory over the three poisons: 1)greed, 2)anger, 3)foolishness. We must strive against our own fundamental darkness (doubt in one's self and doubt about others). All humans deserve respect we are born with the Buddha Nature in us.

  • YES!!! I got to Chant Gongyo (Assiduous Practice), with Tina Turner!!!! Ok, she had a stone Buddha, instead of her alter, and is facing the camera and not the alter, who cares! Even though she only went i page of the Lotus Sutra. So freaking Cool. I do not live in France or Switzerland to be able to be in a meeting and chant with her!!! I feel like a little kid! Nam Myoho Renge Kyo!!! What a way to spread the Great Secret Law!!! Much Love sister friend.

  • @TubaBuddha You are a sick person. You chanted with A VIDEO OF Tina Turner and got all excited? Boy, your life must be really lonely if that is how you judge things you have done. Do Nichiren Buddhism a favor and don't try to act as their propagator, Okay? Gongyo is the Japanese pronunciation of a Chinese character interpretation of the Hoben and Juryo chapters. Daimoku, Nam Myoho Renge Kyo means devotion to the mystic law of the Lotus Flower (dependent origination) through sound and vibration.

  • @azmildman Yes I chanted with Tina, just like I chant with Sensei when he has the videos. Been a member of SGI for 26 years. I will never meet Tina so I was thrilled to be able to chant with her. What the hell is the problem?

  • I'm not buddhist, but it isn't ok to disrespect other's religions. I don't think Tina Turner is an extremist at all, juat practicing the religion/faith she chose to convertto/be a part of.

  • 後ろ向きでやるなよ

  • Awesome <3

  • dam tina can make anythting sound good i like how she remixed it at the end

  • LEts chant Tina, but i wont see u or i get lol XD

  • Please:this is not the real Buddhism! :(

  • @elyanto86 Buddha said there were 180,000 paths to enlightenment...Perhaps you know them all and this is not one of them?

  • @852amber I think that a philosophy like Nichiren's used by the Soka Gakkai Organisation to make money doesn't lead to enlightenment.

  • @elyanto86 Although I am yet to be enlightened. I know chanting has made me happier and a better human being. What you may think about an organization, can't diminish the truth of the practice.

    Practice & prove me wrong.

  • @Lovesjc13 You dont think the Dali Lama gets paid for his appearances, think again. Nichiren Buddhism or SGI only has a yearly contribution and its whatever you can afford. plus their subscriptions, thats it.

  • @elyanto86 There are many types of Buddhism. This is as REAL as anything.

  • Nam myoho renghe kyoooo wow !

  • May all sentient beings have happiness and the causes of happiness. May all sentient beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering.

May all sentient beings have joy and the causes of joy. May all sentient beings remain in great equanimity, free from attachment and aversion!

  • por dios q verguenza

  • wow i didnt know tina turner was nichiren!!

  • I love the humility and gratitude in her chanting. She's grateful that she discovered buddhism and chanting because they gave her peace in a time a chaos/abuse with her husband.

  • @Desinokara Heresy, I have to laugh out loud at that one.

  • wow that's quite a voice she's got there hehehehe!
