@pokefan2009 Respectfully, perhaps you need to read the rulebook again. 69.1 clearly states that incidental contact is permitted so long as it's not intentional or player can make attempt to avoid. You're grasping at straws if you think Jokinen made a blatant attempt to interfere with Brodeur, who still got set for the shot without issue. If it was an intentional interference, Brodeur never would have gotten set up to make the save. But it wasn't , so the non-call was correct.
Even Chico Resh (the Devils homer color analyst ) said he didn't think Jokinen bumped into Marty outside the crease on purpose. Based on that --if he knew the rules as well as the referees--he'd know that no call was necessary.

I was disappointed at In Lou We Trust after this mess. The chief writer there seemed to have caught homer disease. There's one very simple fact that can establish the legality of this goal: Jokinen was moving towards an area OUTSIDE the crease and was NOT looking in Brodeur's direction while he was doing so. Because he was unaware of Brodeur's presence and because Brodeur was outside the crease when the contact occurred, the contact was the DEFINITION of incidental.

In fact, if you want to call that a goaltender interference penalty, then one could easily make a case for Interference by Brodeur on Jokinen for a "pick." Jokinen didn't know he was going to be hit and Brodeur blocked his path...that's a pick, as the NHL Rulebook specifically states.

Jokinen was moving right to left well outside of the crease. Brodeur initiated contact by moving into Jokinen. Jokinen's back was to Brodeur and he was 2 feet from the crease. Marty initiated the contact by moving forward. Instead of moving right to left himself, Brodeur opted to run into Jokinen.
Had it been the other way around, had Jokinen targeted Brodeur, then it would have been interference.

The announcer said Marty went "right away" to the official to complain when in fact he only turned to grab a drink from the water bottle and then just stood there waiting for the announcement. He didn't complain until after it was called a goal.

I was disappointed at In Lou We Trust after this mess. The chief writer there seemed to have caught homer disease. There's one very simple fact that can establish the legality of this goal: Jokinen was moving towards an area OUTSIDE the crease and was NOT looking in Brodeur's direction while he was doing so. Because he was unaware of Brodeur's presence and because Brodeur was outside the crease when the contact occurred, the contact was the DEFINITION of incidental.

They were both skating to the same area of the ice, outside the crease, and happened to collide. Unfortunate for Brodeur but NOT a penalty. In fact, if you want to call that a goaltender interference penalty, then one could easily make a case for Interference by Brodeur on Jokinen for a "pick." Jokinen didn't know he was going to be hit and Brodeur blocked his path...that's a pick, as the NHL Rulebook specifically states.

and after watching this a third time due to people keep replying to my comments i notice that brodeur stopped for a good few seconds before jokinen ran into him.

The announcer is being a homer.
Jokinen was moving right to left well outside of the crease. Brodeur initiated contact by moving into Jokinen. Jokinen's back was to Brodeur and he was 2 feet from the crease. Marty initiated the contact by moving forward. Instead of moving right to left himself, Brodeur opted to run into Jokinen.
Had it been the other way around, had Jokinen targeted Brodeur, then it would have been interference.

If a cane player knocked him down, pushed him out of the way, or held him so he couldn't move, that would be goalie interference, there for it would be no goal. But brodeur recovered from the small hit and tried to stop the puck with a butterfly. It's a goal

the announcer is correct. you can not make contact with the goalie whether he is inside or outside the crease. goalies are not fair game. for everyone calling out the announcer, you don't know shit. and im not just saying that because im a devils fan. the call is correct, but not just because brodeur was out of the crease, but that the contact was incidental, not deliberate.

Resch is so fucking annoying because no matter what, in his mind, the Devils are perfect. He did the same thing in a shootout against the Rangers. Erik Christensen scored a goal that hit both posts but was just barely over the line and before anyone said anything, he immediatley assumed it was no goal.
