How do you decide between hdfh and hdfx mode (or hdlp or hdhq for that matter)? I just got a Sony HDR cx550v and have iMovie 08 but might need 09 or might wait for 11' when it comes. My goal is to get videos to YouTube at 1080p. Thanks much.
Hi, great video men! I have a question. i have a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and the ImOvie 6.0.3 version. With your camera I will have compatible or connection problems? Thanks for your answer!
@antichristSvperstar9 hmm I don't know exactly, but I'm afraid it won't work.... The version is probably too old, my camera was recognized by the 8.0 Version. I think you'll need at least iLife 08, otherwise iMovie can't deal with AVCHD. With the newest version of iMovie this shouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for your reponse! Your great! Sorry if I ask you another doubt but... do you think that if I install the iLife 11 (with the iMovie 11) in my Mac OS X (it is 4 or 5 years old) the AVCHD videos will work with no problems to edit? I mean, like slow down clips, a lot of time to import videos, moments of freezing up, or get hung up... Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Spain. Thanks a lot!!

Yes, you need to buy iLife' 08, iMovie HD (the old version) recognizes only Standart-Cameras. I think there's no way to convert the video in the old application.
It's a nice camera! I think I'm going to buy this baby. Can somewone give me the artist and the trackname of the used music? I think the artist is Coldplay, am I right?
hey i just got the camera and i was wondering if there is any way of converting the footage into HD format so it will go into after effects instead of a shitty WMV file which just ruins the good quality of the camera
How did you edit the video? I used the USB connection to upload the videos but the videos get completly destroyed with the lost of frames. How to fix that and make the videos like yours?
I edit the Video with iMovie 08, a Aplication for Mac OS X.
iMovie recognizes the movies automatically and
import them.
This Camera records in the AVCHD Video Format. You need to convert the Files, Youtube and your Video Player recognizes the files only if they are in a playable format .
It gives Movie Programs which will automatically import and convert in a valid format.
If you have any Questions ask me.
And sorry again for my bad English. I hope you have understand it :-)
hey i got this camera and its great, just as i can see from your youtube vid its cut the top and the bottom of the youtube away, its no big thing but do u know any way 2 change that? is that shot in 1080?
So it's easy to use with iMovie?? I'm looking for a good quality camera thats very user friendly with Mac, iMovie, and Final Cut..I'm also considering an external mic, any suggestions?
You can shoot with the best camera out there... however, if you don't know how to use "it" with available lighting or are able to add your own lighting... you can forget good quality. I don't have this camera but I do have the older SR 1... both are great cameras if you "learn how to use them.
I just got this camcorder too. It seems the color is little dull. Is there some setting that I have overlooked or is this the way it should be? The image is VERY clear, which I am happy about, but not colorful enough. Can you please give me some advise?

@Halunlimited You can choose it at the prefences in the camcorder menu, can't you?
Or do you have that problem with iMovie?
MadMagasine13 1 year ago
@MadMagasine13 I now upgraded from imovie 08 to 09 and that takes HD now from my camera. So it's working fine now. Thank you.

How did you get the video onto iMovie? I shot a vid in HD with this camera and can't upload it to iMovie.....Please help
Conquis7ador 3 years ago
hmm iMovie recognizes Cameras automaticly.
What have you got for a version of iMovie.
For this camera you need the lastest version (iMovie 08, Version 7.1.4)
MadMagasine13 3 years ago
I have iMovie version 6.0.3. So I would have to buy the iLife 08 kit to get the new iMovie? There's no way to buy it separate, right?
Is there a way to convert the video to standard def to use with iMovie HD?
Conquis7ador 3 years ago
Yes, you need to buy iLife' 08, iMovie HD (the old version) recognizes only Standart-Cameras. I think there's no way to convert the video in the old application.

Would you have any idea how the quality would be on a 46" HDTV?
And are you sure that iMovie 08 can edit in HD, I heard there were some issues.
Y0UTUBEreviews2008 3 years ago
iMovie cannot export videos in Fullhd 1080 Quality. The highest quality is 940 x 540.
The image looks sure very good on a 46" Plasma. You must have only enough space
MadMagasine13 3 years ago
Imovie08 recognizes only SD-films on my HDR-SR10e, how come? HD-files aren't detected :s
dufourke 3 years ago
hmm.. i dont know. Ask a Forum or call Apple. Sorry
But iMovie can anyway only export Movies in 960x 540.

magellan567 3 years ago
yes, when you cut simple Movies, is iMovie really good. You can import very easy the AVCHD- Files from the Camera.
My Camera (HDR - SR10) works with iMovie.
MadMagasine13 3 years ago
Don't type '&fmt=18' after the video, click on high quality, this gives better quality by this video than if you type "&fmt=18" behind it.

thanks
MadMagasine13 3 years ago
What are the downsides for you?
And is the sound good?
killer7B78 3 years ago
The Sound is very good, BUT when the wind blows, it reduces the quality by rushing.
The video image is very clear, when it is dark, roars the video image. The photo image is not good, the bulit-in flash is good.
The 15x Optical Zoom is also VERY good and the Harddrive have enough Memory
The battery has 80 mins running time.
I think this camera is suitable for beginners and the HD video quality are very clear
I hope I have helped you

What program did you use to convert to a YouTube format?
When you edit in iMovie, is there any conversion you need to do before?
And does iMovie edit in Full HD?
If you did have to do a conversion to bring it to iMovie could you then please tell me if there was any quality loss?
killer7B78 3 years ago
Yes i use iMovie'08.
I convert the video in the middle format (480 x 272) and put them on youtube.
iMovie works with FullHD, but you cannot convert in Full HD
(the highest quality is 960 x 540 )
I think iMovie08 is bad, but that is the only one AVCHD Application for Mac OS X
MadMagasine13 3 years ago
How about for Windows, would Sony Vegas 8 work?
killer7B78 3 years ago
Sony Vegas Platinum works sure with the Handycam. Both products are from Sony.
But i have no Experience with Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinium.
MadMagasine13 3 years ago
One more thing, do you have a big TV, full HD?
If you do, is it still good quality on that?
And if you don't, do you have any idea if on a 46" Full HD tv the quality would still be good?
killer7B78 3 years ago
i have a 32" HD Ready LCD Screen (HD-Ready works with the 1920 x 1080i Format) and the Image is eally clear.
The photos have not so good quality.
