I just want to say that i don't care what everyone else says, as a dancer myself, i think the dance was wonderful! She is very graceful at all the steps and to me i find it very impressive when a dancer can do moves like that and still be graceful at it. So good job!!!
Well, you know the old saying "I'm no artist but I do like art"? Same with ballet for me. I've watched this and quite a few others of the same choreography and I do like this one - their interpretation is quite beautiful.
I smile at 5.01 - the way her leg delicately dips just enough for his arm to pass over - at its finest, every subtlety is worked over and thought out. Yes, thumbs up for me on this one.
yeah, it was different. I agree with the "facial expression" folks. But I'll trade that for the lines and grace and the little details she exemplified. The tempo was nice and the timing was quite nice. His hands were out of position a few times.
@EvanescenceROCKSS Hey, check out Marie Carmen Catoya and Daniel Sarabia doing Nutcracker pas de deux for the Tallahassee Ballet on YouTube. Watch her 6-turn snap to pose at the end and his dramatic look to conclude. The pace is REALLY slow but nice drama.
If I were that ballerina, I'd've been crying, begging, pleading, loving. Goes to show that performance isn't just one skill. For singing and dancing alike, you need to be able to act.
I fell in love with Tchaikovsky in my Disney times hehe, and The Nutcracker was my first experience of Ballet show, and Pas de Deux has been my favorite part since that day, I've look it performed by the royal Ballet. Now with them, I guess I fell in love again, The Ballerina's perfect! Perfect turn-out, perfect attitude, I seen a scape of her soul. Dancer's work is to say almost everything with body and soul as one day says Mikhail Fokin, face is almost all the time just unnecesary drama.
the dance routine and choreography seem different in some dances i,ve viewed, and thoroughly enjoyed every one- if i had to live my life over again i would become a ballerina.
The choregraphy is by far the best I've seen for this piece. Plus, she is simply gorgeous. I can only hope I'll see an equivalent performance for real one day.
The choregraphy is by far the best I've seen for this piece. Plus, she is simply gorgeous. I can only hope I'll see an equivalent performance for real one day.
I have never seen this piece as being 'emotional', the characters are slightly one dimensional and Tchaikovsky wrote the piece as a technical 'bet'. Do not misunderstand me it is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever written. So no bias there then!
i have never seen a sugar plum fairy were black. but the ballet was beautiful but it seemed like you did every short combo 2 times, and it was kinda veryy, lifeless. but, the ability of the dancers was amazing:)
Lovely, but his partnering was a little weak an the ending was less than graceful. And in the more climatic parts of the music I was expecting exactly that: a climax. But apart from that she has nice extensions, and GREAT feet. Wonderful quality of movement too. Nice. Wish I could say mire, but it was nice. Would love to see her as an Odette and Odile.
I've always loved this piece of music and so decided to check out the dance that goes with it . . . I'm a bit disappointed. With such a sad and epic piece I thought something devastating would be happening on stage. But it's just two characters dancing and being happy, though there's nothing wrong with that, it's just a bit contradictory to the music.
Like the end of Swan Lake with its sad music and equally sad performance, I expected something like that here. This is a nice dance though.
I heard Tchaikovsky made a bet with a couple of friends saying that he can compose a gorgeous piece out of a scale, well either way, this piece moves me,makes me forget that it's just a descending G Major scale..
Beautiful dancers, but too technical, no emotion. The ballerina has the same expression on her face throughout the dance. Unfortunate because they should have taken this pas de deux to the next level. It would have been incredible.
@pamriquel agreed, and there were at least three times where I thought he may drop her. I saw this at Christmas and was moved to tears. This is my favourite Pas de Deux.

It's awesome and I can't find it by what I'm putting in so if can anyone tell me be great, thanks so much! Comment me back :D
@KayaOfAyalia On ice? ...it's a ballet. It has no business being on ice because it's already amazing and a classic and that would just be beyond stupid.
@KayaOfAyalia hi. it is amazing on ice. we put on the nutcracker every year where i teach skating and it's wonderful. there's some videos starring dorothy hammill that you can check out too. ccisar9's comment is anything but amazing or classic and i'm surprised that someone who sees themselves as so refined would be so rude.
normally this is danced either by the sugar plum fairy and her cavalier or clara and the prince..... never seen it in danced in black. and also i agree with the people who said there isn't enough chemistry
These dancers are marvelous, profoundly elegant and graceful. I have absolutely no knowledge of what good ballet is but I must say I personally wasn't feeling enough intensity coming from the pair starting around 2:52 at the crescendo. I'd have liked to see the drama I was feeling from the piece in their delivery more.
If I'm not mistaken, this is the almost the same choreography as the Royal Ballet's version of this Sugar Plum pas de deux? I think Yoshida and Cope had a stronger and more passionate performance though. Still yet, this is excellent.
Generally choreography for major roles in ballets are the same but they can be changed or altered if wanted. But I do agree that Miyako and Jonathan had more chemistry
my only only only wish is that all ballets that are filmed for TV would be filmed as an audience member would see it. no zooms no fancy angles... the choreography is mean to be viewed as a whole!
and the cameras always seem to focus more on the female dancers face for some reason...
for those of you who remember Bejart in his heyday,he was all about subversion. Taking the Classics and turning them on their head in order to provoke a reaction was his specialty.. Mark Morris and others have continued in time honored tradition
Typical Bejart.. subvert the real thing. It makes it more interesting, How many times do we need to see the SPF in a white tutu doing this .. a bit of black subverts the whole idea of 'sugar plum' seeing that sugar is supposed to be white ,no?
Yes, it is quite Swan Lake, but I think it's a good way to make an allusion to the possibly greatest ballet ever... And beside, black is the color of true elegance so it goes naturally with ballet itself... :)
The composer, Peter Tchaikovsky's sister had died shortly before he began composition of the ballet of "The Nutcracker" His sister's death influenced him to compose a melancholy, descending scale melody for the adagio of the Grand Pas de Deux; which is this piece.

Yes, I agree. The choreography is very Swan Lake-ish. The only time I've seen the choreography match the intensity and drama of the Pas de deux music was on "Nutcracker the Motion Picture" from 1986. It was the Pacific Northwest Ballet company and the dancing complemented the music. At the end, the dancers struck three classic poses in time with the three last notes. Brilliant.
@sergshal i agree. i think that they did a pretty good job for a ballet piece to this music (even tho it was intended to be a ballet piece) but the emotions would probably be better conveyed in a modern dance where there are less restrictions...
is it only me or does this pdd feel as if it is, choreographically, a mish mash of other pdd? there a bits of swan lake, giselle, beauty, don q, cinderella... great dancing but i was a bit bored after a while. i know ballet vocabulary is not that huge but still... NB i am NOT saying they were not dancing it well or anything. she is amazing, her legs and feet are gogeous
Black was an unfortunate choice for the costuming, given the background. There were so many movements that I couldn't see and I would have loved to. A contrast would have been nice, to be able to see their whole body move and not just arms, legs or hands. Unfortunately, he was not very visible at all.
Cristine is way, way past her prime in this performance, not to mention ten pounds overweight. Domenico, who is no weakling, has a hard time supporting her in his lifts. But credit where credit is due - Cristine's arm movements are fluid and her thought-out, her "plastique" is pleasure to watch, and she is still pretty.
@kissobsessed: I think you're wrong. The music totally fits the nutcracker, cos the story is supposed to be sad, and so is the music. This scene is about one of the sweetest dreams being about to end and Clara realizing that she cannot live together with the nutcracker prince whom she loves, in his world. That's emotional, moving and sad imo.
That was very flowy and gorgeous! Sh has a really good body! He is a good partner, also. My only negative comment is the choice of color in costumes. I wouldn't have chosen black. But that has nothing to do with them. Bravo.
It is the qualtiy of the corigraphy and music that will make this peice forever timeless. I think that generations from now will still watch this peice with the same maner that something truely beautiful is happening. Touching the very depths of the human heart.
Ballet is all about the control of body movement. This is probably the best example of control and body movement. The performers give a flawless performance. it is clear form the video that they are good at what they do. The thing is that it is that tight control what makes this piece so emotionally statisfying. The music adds to the performance by emphasising the deliberate control. In the end the dance and the music complement each other. Making this peice worth watching agian and again
Ballet does not seem to do this music justice. It's too controlled. Tchaikovski's music has so much passion to it (especially in this particular piece) there ought to be more expression and emotion. That gives the music more of a story which makes it all the more enjoyable for the audience. People can't necessarily relate with dancing, but they can relate with facial expressions.
I love performaces like this. Where the performers make very difficult moves look natural. I would imagine that these two have had alot of practice. The music is absolutely devine.
I just want to say that i don't care what everyone else says, as a dancer myself, i think the dance was wonderful! She is very graceful at all the steps and to me i find it very impressive when a dancer can do moves like that and still be graceful at it. So good job!!!

¿ Que hacen ? ¿ Juegan ? Porque, la verdad, pasión: cero. Y el pas-de-deux sin pasión......

Besides, I think some of the most beautiful music pieces are sad. I love sad, melancholic music.
Other examples of this type are starwars soundtracks.

I wonder how she got her hair tht way... it must be short, there's no bun... this is nice, but i think there could be more connection and emotion.

That was very flowy and gorgeous! Sh has a really good body! He is a good partner, also. My only negative comment is the choice of color in costumes. I wouldn't have chosen black. But that has nothing to do with them. Bravo.

I love the nutcracker, but I wish this song wasn't in it. This is such an emotional moving and sad piece of music that it seems out of place to me.

El color negro del vestido de el bailarin lo desaparecio de la escena practicamente, y se noto que algunas cargadas le costaron un poco.

Her movements are very flowing. This is by far my favorite Pas de Deux. She makes it look very natural.

Does anyone know where Ms. Blanc is dancing now, if anywhere? She is incredibly captivating.

I was Clara in the Nutcracker
And so I watched this in the chairs from on stage.
I wanted to cry.
This is oure amazing.
There will never be anything more perfect.
