  • I love , love LOVE this song

  • Loved this in '74 back when we called this "soul" music. Still not only holds up today, it's still great to dance to.

  • I'm new in the funk business, I only know Funkadelic. Are there other great funk bands? Pls recommend some funk shit. =)

  • @babbersabber Sly and The Family Stone, The Meters, Tower of Power, Ohio Players, and of course, Minister of The New New Super Heavy Funk: James Brown. The list goes on. But the illest funk ever was only released on 45s, so you have to get compilations. Google 'keb darge funk' and 'jazzman 45s' for a good start on that.

  • Now, Thats Funky!!!

  • MR BIG..I'MMA BOUT 2 CATCH A CASE UP N HERE...(LOL)!!!

Frankly I doub it .....Every theme better than the other !!! hIGH QUALITY MUSICIANS

  • Time is truely wastin.

Amen to the 'jammin in the 70s'. This shit funked the house.

Sadly, all this great funk got dissed along with the disco-backlash.

  • Kiddies, TRUST that we used to jam the HELL outta this back in the 70s...i bet if you fired this up in a club of today, that fake cool shit would fly out the window and they'd jam it like we used to !!! DAMN this was some good music!!!!!!!...if this came on the car radio while people are on the expressway, better start calling AMBULANCES in advance !!!

  • Thanks dav5tar for posting , the Isley Brothers are a Great Funk band . Every time this song was played back in the 70's at a dance club we had to dance to it . My friends & I would keep asking girls to dance until one said yes , it didn't take long because the girls loved to Bump to it also . I have added it to my playlist . Isley Brothers are a Legend , Live on Isley Brothers .

  • this is some straight up afro n bellbottoms funk

  • @stratplayer5769

Make sure them bellbottoms is burnt orange polyester with lime green pleats to compliment yo' paisley print polyester shirt that's doused in sweat, funk and High Karate...and whatever you do, don't forget your Afro-Sheen blow-out kit!!! Why fight the power to funk when you can smell like a funky mule,,,Get it Isleys...fight it, fight the power

  • Five people got whipped by the powers that be... LOL

  • @ElusvOptmst 794 people are Funked Up! :)

  • Hard to believe radio stations used to edit the word "bullshit" from this song. It was also done on "Theme From Shaft" (Damn right). Compared to today's explicit offerings these songs are tame. We decided to buy the album and just played it as loud as possible.

  • @doc2skate

WLS in Chicago and CKLW in Detroit played it unedited when it came out.....

  • I like it

  • this is what public enemy got their hook from :D

  • The Bass is all that and then some. That will get you moving if you have a pulse.

  • Atlantic Beach! Watching people dance on the patios!

  • This song sounds a little better live.

  • Without the bass line in this song...Just imagine no Gap Band, no Rick James, no Bootsy Collins, hell, no Ted Nugent doing "Strenglehold" either! This is the song that launched a thousand bass licks!

  • @quornholio Actually Motown invented the 'FUNK' and the non-traditional bass guitar licks! Good observation though!!! FIGHT THE POWER!!

  • Love this song I was there when it came out and like myself a keeper!

  • The Isleys hit #4 in Billboard, 99-27-75. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx!

  • listen to ya classic cuts and artist

  • The bass in this track is totally of the chain. Sounds like a rumble and a thick wop. Straight up funky. And the lyrics: What this generations calls "sick." This is authentic art. Musicology at its best and culturally relevant.

  • @DaTruthDisciple - WOW. I just saw your post. And what I just posted, was "The bass hook in this song is SICK". :)

  • @DaTruthDisciple Preach!! I agree. :)

  • @DaTruthDisciple All music is authentic art, the question is whether you appreciate it or not.

  • Isley Bro-ba-booeys woot

  • BABABOOEY

  • @sammyfarhaz MA-MA-MONKEY

  • now this is whats up. All my uncles jammed this alot back in the day

  • My mom had most of the Isley brother albums and I would just love to listen to the music and read along with the lyrics on the album cover as a teenager. Really meaningful lyric on all of their songs. Just don't see that kind of creativity now. My mom gave all her album away and I am just ill about it now!!!!!

  • my lord !! Ineed this shit

  • saw them bout 8 years ago in huntsville, al at the big spring jam. my girlfriend and i were the only white people there pretty much. i danced for 2 hours solid. all my friends went and saw 3 doors down. i think i made the right decision!

  • This song takes me back to my youth (70's) when the Isley Brothers came to town and a group of my white friends & I went to the concert. We were the only white people in the venue and became very nervous before the show started. Turns out everyone there laughed at our terror (in a good way) and treated us almost like celebrities. Music has done more for race relations than all government programs put together. How these gifted men transitioned from standard Motown to 70's funk is amazing.

  • This is one of the heaviest jams eva, no question!

  • This is my favorite Isley Bros song!!! Not many people know about it for whatever reason.

  • Best song of my teens. Black music at it's best.

  • Mmmm... funkalicious seditious grooves.

  • Trust!

  • Damn it fight the power cuz some Bullshit is goin' down with this one! The bass line is so well done so funky that you wanna slap the person next to ya'!

  • @FuckLinkinParkHaters How old is old as hell? What's wrong with reminiscing? What are your parents doing? Getting old and fat? No thanks!

  • @FuckLinkinParkHaters How old is old as hell? What's wrong with reminiscing? What are your parents doing? Getting old and fat? No thanks! 40 somethings and 50 somethings like listening to their music because it brings back memories of the best days of their lives! What's wrong with that? We still play sports and other activities too. When you reach middle age, you'll understand how silly your comment sounds.

  • @mminer58 Waste of time, i'm not even gone read all of that...

  • @FuckLinkinParkHaters Didn't mean to sting you.

  • @FuckLinkinParkHaters Didn't mean to sting you dude!

  • @TheTrefdawg Toronto, Ohio here!!!!! Columbus now!!!

  • i think the awb became their biggest fans

  • did J Hendrix teach the isley to play the gitar

  • @budwinder52

Gave him and Billy Gibbons some pointers

  • @hieronomy billy really seems to take it to a different level in the southern mellow but hard stevie sound totally enjoyable for all ages

  • @budwinder52 Yes. Jimi Hendrix was a good friend their Family and during the early days it was mentioned by Ernie how Jimi would play his guitar all of the time. He even slept with it in his arms. I found that in an old Biography on them. Pretty good huh? Jimi was also Native American! Cherokee from his mother. Ahh History is wonderful thing.

  • @bigcree thanks for that bigcree, the sound will never die

  • @budwinder52 Hey no worries! Like many people here I grew up listening to these Great Musicians and many like them! Jimi was an inspiration to many young people of ALL colors and is the PRIDE of both Black and Red! Not bad for a guy who love PEACE and Music!! AWB, Steve Wonder, Confunkshun, Redbone (YEA!), Parliament and Funkadelic, Sly and the Family Stone, EWF, The Ohio Players, Mandrill, War what can I say. Those were and are real Musicians!

  • The Isley brothers are giants !

  • The very first time I heard this song was hearing it blaring from some dorm room when I moved onto the campus of Indiana University. It became my baptism into funk, and to this day, I remain a faithful convert!

  • Time is truly wastin'

    There's no guarantee

    Smile's in the makin'

You gotta fight the powers that be

    Got so many forces

    Stayin' on the scene

    Givin' up all around me

  • @sentdenisegg

I try to play my music, they say my music's too loud!

I tried talking about it, I got the big runaround!

And when I roll with the punches, I got knocked on the ground!

By all this BULL**** goin' down!

Keep fighting the power y'all, and RIP Marvin.

  • a salute to the High Priests of Funk!!!!!

  • hell yes!

  • All this bullshit goin' down!!!

  • @YLGersdorf ....by all this *&^%*&_@# going down!! (They used to censor that part on the radio, lol)
