@babbersabber Sly and The Family Stone, The Meters, Tower of Power, Ohio Players, and of course, Minister of The New New Super Heavy Funk: James Brown. The list goes on. But the illest funk ever was only released on 45s, so you have to get compilations. Google 'keb darge funk' and 'jazzman 45s' for a good start on that.
Kiddies, TRUST that we used to jam the HELL outta this back in the 70s...i bet if you fired this up in a club of today, that fake cool shit would fly out the window and they'd jam it like we used to !!! DAMN this was some good music!!!!!!!...if this came on the car radio while people are on the expressway, better start calling AMBULANCES in advance !!!
Thanks dav5tar for posting , the Isley Brothers are a Great Funk band . Every time this song was played back in the 70's at a dance club we had to dance to it . My friends & I would keep asking girls to dance until one said yes , it didn't take long because the girls loved to Bump to it also . I have added it to my playlist . Isley Brothers are a Legend , Live on Isley Brothers .
Make sure them bellbottoms is burnt orange polyester with lime green pleats to compliment yo' paisley print polyester shirt that's doused in sweat, funk and High Karate...and whatever you do, don't forget your Afro-Sheen blow-out kit!!! Why fight the power to funk when you can smell like a funky mule,,,Get it Isleys...fight it, fight the power
Hard to believe radio stations used to edit the word "bullshit" from this song. It was also done on "Theme From Shaft" (Damn right). Compared to today's explicit offerings these songs are tame. We decided to buy the album and just played it as loud as possible.
Without the bass line in this song...Just imagine no Gap Band, no Rick James, no Bootsy Collins, hell, no Ted Nugent doing "Strenglehold" either! This is the song that launched a thousand bass licks!
Any young fool out there talking bout somebody old as hell will realize if they dumb ass keep living and not end up dead there stupid ass will get old too!
I remember when bought this album as a teenager,it was so funky. The part where Ron says "all this B.S going down I remember my father freakin out ...did that man just say what I thought he said ' ? I just laughed at the expression on his face when he said that .Lol !
i,m 55,so white that i'm basically clear and a veteran of many orthopedic surgeries. i am willing to chance the scalpel again cause i MUST get up and shake it. this is a song to pop corpses out of the grave. fuuuunky!
Another Isley Brothers Classic I was only 6 years old when this came out but this what my parents were jammin to were they were having those parties in the basement and no kids were allowed.... some of yall know what I'm talkin about.... I will always thank my dad for playin all that good stuff from the 60's and 70's
Is the opening of this gem deserving to be in the Bass Beat Bumper rotation Hall of Fame for Uncle Rush ? oh yeah, it is strong enough to survive Limbaugh crooning along....savor the irony.
All bass on this track the drums so compress no acoustic at all damn it was something they're music had me going i think because of the compression part of it, the vocals, the music, everything shit!! just right! a but add some synthesizer to it man and bounce those key just like that bass man!!!.
The bass in this track is totally of the chain. Sounds like a rumble and a thick wop. Straight up funky. And the lyrics: What this generations calls "sick." This is authentic art. Musicology at its best and culturally relevant.
I wish I was one of those guys who was beating Stern when it was happening I would yelled a few Kike Slurs while I was doing it, he's such as asshole anyways lolol.
My mom had most of the Isley brother albums and I would just love to listen to the music and read along with the lyrics on the album cover as a teenager. Really meaningful lyric on all of their songs. Just don't see that kind of creativity now. My mom gave all her album away and I am just ill about it now!!!!!
saw them bout 8 years ago in huntsville, al at the big spring jam. my girlfriend and i were the only white people there pretty much. i danced for 2 hours solid. all my friends went and saw 3 doors down. i think i made the right decision!
This song takes me back to my youth (70's) when the Isley Brothers came to town and a group of my white friends & I went to the concert. We were the only white people in the venue and became very nervous before the show started. Turns out everyone there laughed at our terror (in a good way) and treated us almost like celebrities. Music has done more for race relations than all government programs put together. How these gifted men transitioned from standard Motown to 70's funk is amazing.
Damn it fight the power cuz some Bullshit is goin' down with this one! The bass line is so well done so funky that you wanna slap the person next to ya'!
@FuckLinkinParkHaters How old is old as hell? What's wrong with reminiscing? What are your parents doing? Getting old and fat? No thanks! 40 somethings and 50 somethings like listening to their music because it brings back memories of the best days of their lives! What's wrong with that? We still play sports and other activities too. When you reach middle age, you'll understand how silly your comment sounds.
i was in the Marines & i'd just got back from Japan when this came out. loved it. never could find a copy of it. finally got it when it came out on cd, and now this. . .DAMN, but i love it!
