  • sounds like my R8

  • sounds like my R8

  • sounds like my R8

  • first break sounded like a mf doom beat.

  • if u hook it up through a guitar box it will sound awesome

  • holy shyte im trying to buy one of these on ebay

  • I'm interested in buying one of these. If i use it to record with, will it sound like an actual drumset? or well people be able to tell its a drum machine?

  • @LzrdKng9000 depends how you use it... if you quantize and track your beats using the machine like I did in the video, then yes ppl will be able to tell its a machine. if you play the drums live and mess around with the sound on a DAW or something then it may be believable

  • @waxmastawes

    Hi,

Does this send midi notes as well as clock?

I'm looking for a drum machine I can hitch up to my rack synths, so I can play their sounds by hand rather than sequencing or create drum loops then fire it off into a rack synth.

Don't know much about these drum machines, I suspect the dr550 may be pre-midi?

    Cheers

  • @LzrdKng9000 I'm not overly familiar with the DR-500, but I think it has a way to switch off the quantization. If it does, turn it off. That way, it'll play back what you record exactly as you recorded it, timing errors and flubbed notes intact.

  • @LzrdKng9000 drum machine most deffinetly...if you want real sounding drums either get a sampler with sequencing capabillities and sample percussion from all kinds of sources. Get a progam for drums, or get a machine that uses sampled sounds for acoustic instruments.

  • I like this!

  • i connected this to my car stereo and made beats while i drove, is that illegal?

  • @tubfban that me be the best idea I have heard all week. I use my steering wheel like a drum machine anyway.

  • @tubfban

    YES

  • pretty 80s!

  • dude, this is intense. A Classic drum machine!

  • how much u want for that

  • @babyjmr1 1000$

  • Can you play rock beats on this machine?

  • if you plug the box on a guit ampli..can you put distortion or overdrive???

  • shit

  • so would you be able to plug this into an amp (or speaker system) then just play and loop? would you need to program? thanks

  • @jamieishungry pretty sure... i plug it into my soucard n run effects thru software if a wanted to

  • @jamieishungry DOnt buy it for $1000 thats a rip off u can get one on ebay for like 50$

  • @fauxinstylin I was joking. yes you can find them for very cheap :)

  • @fauxinstylin not an old one, its definitely more than 50$

  • @willobeen nah they are cheap... i was just messin with him

  • by the way my dr 505 has, doctor rhythm dr-505 written in BLUE above the display, its definety a genuine boss dr and it plays sounds very simalar to the machine in this video, but since the mark 1 version of this machine has the writting in grey and its red on the mark 2.

then what version of the dr-505 do i have??????

  • i have a boss dr 550 and i love it, its perfect for creating you'r own hip hop drum rythms to play live through an amp then add a live keyboard player and a dynamic mic and ur set for live performance as a hip hop group. it creates the sort of sounds people whu sample beats serch for, i guess i kud use a tr 505 but i hear the tr sounds used by so many artists for me the dr 505 is the tool.

  • old but legendary :P

  • any specific models you would recommend?

  • Try the Roland SP-404 and the Korg Kaosillator

that should be a good start for where you want to go

  • kaossilator has a drum machine?

    well ill be damned

  • my bad,

no it doesnt. i was meaning to say korg electribe.

  • thank you ;)

  • keeping in mind i want to make a sort of dance band

    should i buy one?

    is 110$ a good deal?

  • if you're gonna make a dance band and be serious about it, you should play with as many sound modules as you can. test some in shops. listen to heaps on youtube.

most modules can produce music for most styles, you just gotta find one with the sounds you're after.

  • any specifics you would recommend?

  • hmm. i dont think so .. this is the sort of thing that you might buy on a whim at a swap meet, i paid 7 dollars for mine about a year ago, but if it's dance music you want to make then i think the electribe would be a great tool to start with .. and with one of them you can trigger one of these if you decide to get one .

  • thank you very much for your insight :)

do you mean trigger this one as in

run the dr 550 through the electribe? (which by the way looks amazing)

  • nah.. the dr550 only has midi in .. youd hook it up to the midi out on the electribe ..

  • all has been revealed to me now :P

  • tite

  • I got one of that!

  • bei suni, semplici e senza tanti fronzoli. Cercavo una drum machine così, economica, semplice e piccola.

  • I love trop cette drum machine.

  • that first thing he plays sounds like a beat from a buckethead dvd. =] awesome

    sounds cool,

  • The Dr. 660 was the best!

  • I saw one of these for 69.99 today at a pawn shop, but I was really looking for a sampler.

  • i got one for 7 dollars at the swapmeet about a year ago... i talked him down from 10.. i got my sampler in the form of an eps for 20 dollars at a thrift store abotu 2 or 3 months later ..

  • That's a good price. I just bid $10.00 on E-bay for one. Hope it works out.

  • hey man do you know how to create different tempos when you are in the song edit mode, my machine plays all the patterns I insert at the same tempo when I do song play and I need to know how to make the song be diffrent speeds in different measures, can u help? I'd appreciate it. I've searched the manual but it doesn't help.

    Thank you.

    Jose.

  • This device doesn't have that capacity. In order to do what you want, you would need to be controlling the DR550 with an external midi controller. You can either feed it a varying midi tempo, or you could sequence it entirely though midi. I personally would just sample each individual hit and play them with sampling software, such as iDrum or Battery etc.

  • Hey thanks man, I appreciate it.

  • is there a way you could add different effects

  • Not exactly :)

There is some type of 'phasing' effect you can tweak for individual parts, but it's not that useful! :P

One option would be to pan some instruments Left and Right and use different external FX on each channel...

If you're looking for a drum machine, i'd recommend the Alesis sr-16!

  • I bought one of these in a 2nd hand shop for £10. Hehe

  • would you sell it ?

  • Sorry, but no. I'm sure you could find a few n ebay though

  • is this just a drum machine or can i have samples of sumthing and bring them in???

  • Its just a drum machine.

  • I'm wondering why the down votes? My statement is entirely factual. The Boss DR-550 has absolutely no sampling capacity. It can only produce preset sounds. Look it up.

  • You can create your own beats with it. In fact you have to, because it gets too boring otherwise. It does have a limited number of usable beats. The rap, bossonova, reggae and various other beats are virtually unusable in a practicle sense. Just a step up from a metronome really.

  • Yea dude I used to rock the fuck out with a 550 on the bass synth effect... run it through a distortion and a chorus and it's nastyyyy soundinggg!

  • i have the 550 mk2, how do you get the bass synth effect? i must know! lol know any good websites with tutorials?

  • it is one of the settings for a sound effect... i'm not positive as to what one, though, because i haven't played it in years :( it was my friends drum machine but i want to get one of my own, too!

  • i have the dr-770....pretty simple to use, but it takes a good bit of exploring and practice.

  • hey dude... i have that crap but i need the f@#king manual..... do u have it?

  • i have the dr rhythm 670 and i don't know how to use it, arggg

  • me too, odpo. :(

  • i had one of those! god i miss it...

  • i'm suck with this drum. very cool! congratilations.

  • I have the same drum machine but I have trouble programming it.

Does anybody have some kind of tutorial ?

  • i just got one for 7 bucks a couple months ago at the swapmeet..i sorely miss my tr 505 that died on the operation table during a surgery, but this has lot of the same sounds and more..i think i got my 7 dollars worth for sure!

  • i have this one but i greate much better beats

  • Yes, and I greate much greater grinding grids than you do.

  • hey i didden't ment to dis you or anything i am not a pro you know i'm sorry that you did not understand me wel anyway i ment it in a good way i do think you make great stuf

  • the zoom sb-246 has the best sound engine hands down for drum machines under $200. It sounds great. The sequencer is not that great though.

  • thanks for posting this! i was trying to decide if this would be a good ebay buy or not...

  • hahah yeaaa i like keep it movin maaan
