@Ednily: Depends on what you want to do. We used an Optech Ilris LiDAR , which has a long range (up to 1 km) and a relatively good resolution. This machine is not able to scan 3D with a rotating head, scan angle is about 45 or 60 degree. You can buy some with a 360 degree scan field; e.g., Riegl . Those are cheaper, but do not have the long distance range. There are also some airborne systems. In any case you'll need more than petty cash.
