I actually have this comic lying around somewhere and I want to read it. I kind of felt Akivasha's appearance in hour of the dragon was kind of random.
I hate to say it, but I feel "The Sorrow of Akivasha" was one of the weakest (and weirdest) of the Dark Horse "original" Conan stories (though it is really is just an extension of a plotline from Hour of the Dragon). I like your style, and it was great to see this story coming to life. I hope to see more!
@shavedchimpanzee Thanks for the compliments. I won't disagree with your comments about Akivasha, but it had an art style and some challenging elements that lent themselves well to the test.
@shavedchimpanzee I actually would enjoy doing the whole book, simply because there are a lot of great opportunities and challenges for great animation moments, including mood, the flying dark creatures, the personality interactions between Conan & Akivasha, and the organic body dynamics of the two scantily clad characters walking around.
u inspired me to post it :) but i wished it was better... (after effects) conan inspires me. if i new how to do facial expression, then it would be awesome. any hints?tips? its a hobby
This is great. The woman at the beginning and the opening of the crate are really nicely animated in particular. Although a few sequences look a little awkward, I'm assuming it's all dependant on your own manual manipulation of the images?
Yes, manual manipulation only. I agree, some is awkward. It is a matter of trying to use the original comic and 'stay true' to it, vs. adjusting it for the 'motion' aspect. This was a test, but now I would probably edit down the narration quite a bit, as the animation helps illustrate many of its points. There are also some transition effects/techniques that could be utilized to keep the pace up.
So this is just something you're doing in your spare time?
The shot where Akiva is stepping out of the coffin and her arm fades out then back into a full body; was that a design choice to prevent the motion from looking too awkward or a technical issue?
Just read your filmography, very impressive. I studied media production at Thames Valley University with distinctions in sound and visual editing. If you ever need someone to throw coffee at in disgust, I'm your man ;) haha.
That is a great question! It was a technical issue (amplified by time constraints.) I would have overlapped as a dissolve, but it worked well enough. Provides a sense of magic and creepiness.
Go to my company website and email me a link of any info. I'll keep it on record in case.

That is really good. It will probably be better than the upcoming movie! I am excited to see the finished product.

This was awsome. I would pay to join that and have all my comics on line in this way. It's true to the book.

@longslidenyc Thanks. We're making a big effort to accomplish that.

@shavedchimpanzee Unfortunately, not finishing this one. It was only a test. But others are in the works!
