  • omg after watching this video so many times i just figured out that he switched the video at 2:03 O_O man ur good at putting 2 pieces of solo together

  • you sound confused and unsure about what to play... youre playing on the easiest blues scale to play... which is also the easiest to mess up. Listen to lots of music and learn lots of new patterns, i notice you keep using the same ones over and over. nice, but still a long way to go.

  • Are these only made out of the g blues scale. G Bb C C# D F and G?

  • Great solo. One suggestion, try to get off the page, it sounds like the chords are holding you up a little...just a suggestion tho

  • sounds mor like jazz i think?

  • @iamwan27 Before criticizing someone's playing, you should know what you're talking about.

  • pretty good!

the eight notes need a little bit more swing though

  • BRAVISSIMO

  • I believe the name of the song is "Kenny'll Make It"

  • Do you know a link for sheet music on this piece?

  • Do you know a link for sheet music on this piece?

  • I love this ! BRAVO

  • Cool, I play sax for nearly 8 Jears ( I´m 13) and I love a Blues like this! Great man!

  • i like your high-pitched tones..

  • hey how long have you been playing for?

  • That's really good. =)

  • hey

    great solo

there are chord changes in it yeah?

and what accidentals outside your blues scale clash?

  • Smoooth! Flows really well! Keep it up!

  • I've been playing Alto for 3 years. In my opinion, best scale to solo on is Bb Blues. Once you start, you just can't stop.

@simplecreativity, I always do that. Then people will look at me like, What the hell are you doing?

  • sexaphone

  • hey im trying to learn the sax right now and I was wondering what scales you used in this vid?

  • hes using the mixolydian mode over the chord changes. so g7 = g mixolydian. mixolydian is just like the major scale but with a flattened 7th

  • ò mostr fra

  • cool

  • great sound!

  • You are so talented. Your sound is magnificent!

I'm practicing for a Jazz solo in our Jazz Band for next week and you just opened up so many new things for me to do.

    Thank you so much!

  • you inspired me to play saxophone!!

    amazing!!

  • the blue never sounding so good tell me what mouth piece are you useing

  • That bluesy improvisation was really amazing... I'm trying to get some new ideas and this is exactly what I was looking for! Congrats and greetings from Argentina!

  • Awesome sound! Very smooth. Video and audio seem to record pretty well together too. well done!

  • Niiice, very nice 5/5

  • its ok i suppose dont give up

  • amazing, just amazing... you are remembering me of the great Paul Desmond (though you´re playing more brightly). i´m really interested in your playing and how do you exercise- may you can answer me.

there is no question you have talent, so don´t waste it and keep on playing. :)

    i love your sound

  • amazing. this is the kind of thing that inspired me to play the sax..bravo

  • Nice sound. I just discovered Jamey Aebersold books, they have opened up a whole new world for me. Again your sound is what I am trying to achieve. Keep up the good work.

  • could u give me some tips on how to play with soul like that?

  • Ur following the chord progression or JUST sticking to the blues scale?

  • if you have an ear, then u can tell it was the chord progression

  • hard articulation. More emphasis of up beats. More tension and resolution.

Other than that, you have great tone and pretty good technique to back it up. It sounds like you're coming from a classical setting though. Just try to listen as much jazz as you can and emulate the phrasings.

  • fun!

  • sweet plays dude

  • Nice, just add more rhythm into your solos. At some points it sounds as if your playing contant crotchets.

  • Excellent! Bravo - I like your addition 'out of the usual pattern'. The matching is very good and I like even the background: it suits well the mood of the piece.

  • at 0:39 hes using sum lick form night train

  • Could you post what notes you are playing? This is an excellent solo and I would love to learn it.

  • Guess what starfire37, look who asked. Noone!

  • I love blues solo sax...

  • awsum its great im a beginner the only two songs i can play is mary had a little lamb and jingle bells

  • that was great. i love playing jazz, it gives me a great feeling when i play it. i play the alto sax.

  • Fantastic solo mate, really impressive stuff. Very nice tone and creativity. Kudos.

On a very random side note...do any of the rest of you folks find yourself unconciously whistling or humming improvised solos whenever you listen to a song with a good rhythm section and backbeat? Three different points in the song, I caught myself improvising on a whistle. :P

    Cheers.

  • @simplecreativity i do that all the time. only problem is, once i get to an instrument i play, i've forgotten everything i came up with!

  • Your tone is how I'd love to sound on soprano when I get one. Maybe it's partially the recording setup, but your tone sounds like a centered and nicely developed sop.

  • damn ur fucking gooooood

  • nice cool jazz sound...

  • Niiiice.

You are parallel to Desmond a little. In other words, your tone kicks butt.

    Keep saxing!

  • metal mouthpiece?? jazz reed??

  • man ur good i wish i can p;ay like that

  • how have you made this video with the sound of your saxo and the song together ?

Ps : your solo is amazing

  • what kinds of scales are u using?

is it like derived scales or 'cover all' (blues scale) scales if u noe what i mean?

  • Really Good

  • hey man ive been playing the sax a long time and your good bro i hope i hear your sax over my radio bro

  • omg you sound way better than me...You have a better sound but I have ummm....I play..like...better. not with sound. ok I'll shutup xD

  • You have reallyy nice sound

i play alto and soprano :]

did you buy the backround or

    did you find it?

    thankss

    tay

  • nice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ??? i'm 12 and i can improv on my alto better than that. well that's because i started at an early age and we learn how to in jazz band. plus it didn't have much feeling, almost like it was written... i wouldn't be suprised if it was....

  • god, your really stuck up arn't you!? ( this is to cabbageman) This man is great, he has great sound! I really do have a low opinion of twerps like you.

  • Cabbageman614 go try find some guys who care or better yet put up a video if your so amazing. This guy is brilliant it sounds great and like altosaxophoneash i dont hold opinions of people like you in high regard.

  • yay go you!!! :D

  • cabbage man u lil stuck up squeky balls cunt. i wanna see you post a vid and then we'l see if your as good as you dream you are?

  • JEEZ! i'm sorry! god all these people are attacking me.

  • yeah cuz ur a fag....having an ego is for french horn players, you piece of shit i hope someone stuffs a reed up your ass

  • i'm sorry! i just said it didn't have much feeling in it. it's my opinion! stop killing me! i can't help having a big ego! maybe i'm watching too much nalts?

  • i'm learning this song from ear and so far i'm up to 0:48

  • Very amazing. Workng on improv myself atm. So, where/how did you get the background bass line? Thanks in advance

  • so amazing! i'm a new player and

almost drift away with it~ haha

this why i luv its sound-

wish i could play like you*

  • Beautiful, simply smooth and relaxing

  • my best solo in jazz band might have been half that good...

  • what r u using for the rythm section

  • oo oo i play alto sax too! is this improv?

  • yes it is

  • very cool...i'm learning improv. now. after 4 years of good ole classical [:

  • I agree it sounds a little bit like a written solo. I have the same book. Nice licks though.

  • cool. i was hoping for some double time around 2:20 ish. great.

  • that's amazing! nice and simple, yet amazing!!!

  • i play alto and bari sax n dude wa u played just now was simply amazing.

  • ooh i play alto and this sounds pretty cool!

  • Not bad man, liked the way you handled the ii-V around 2:20. I got an Aebersold vid as well, give it a look if you get a chance

  • I love blues! The way you play, it seems the music just flows from the horn. I have been having a problem finding decent music. Can you tell me whats the name and composer of the song?

  • its recording of the rhythm section

It's from the famous Jamey Aebersold books

amorelli used Jamey Aebersold Vol. 42: Blues in All Keys."

theres almost 120 volumes by Aebersold

  • The name of this song is

    Kenny'll Make It =P

  • smooth jazz is my favorite music. checkit out

  • check out Boney James!

  • Lovely. I love your work with different scales and your movement through the chords. I also love the way you have a more even eighth note fell on the bossa section. You should share this with other viewers who are stuck on the blues scale. May I suggest some double time?

  • can anyone email me how I can improvise or how I can get good sound on mine alt sax,or just if someone have any tips for me...

  • I play alto sax myself and you have great tone. but you might work on not being so "choppy" with your notes. occasionally when doing a triplet you could make it a divided like that but not all the time. but great tone! and great vibratos!

  • Good, but all you are doing is improvising off of the same changes. the song is billies bounce. What kind of sax is it? kinda looks like a Selmer or something. Thats what i play. Nice solo though.

  • The song is not billie's bounce. It is a generic blues. The changes only involve the 1, 4, and 5 chords, as it is a blues. My sax is a "The Martin Alto." Typically different feel and warmer tone than a Selmer.

  • its kind of... repetitive? umm. you like those down beats. good tone though keep up the good work

  • good job, any tip for improvization.

  • i find it hard at times to improv. how can i improve? is it all about creativity?

  • excellent playing!! I am a guitar player, who really would like to learn some sax lines for the guitar in the style your doin. any suggestions for sax plyers i should check out?

  • My style? I have no idea, but the ones I listen to a lot are Paul Desmond, Stan Getz, Bird (of course), Trane (of course). I also like Keith Oxman, Johnny Hodges, and Branford Marsalis

  • @amorelli I always loved Fathead Newman's style he was the sax player for Ray charles, but he played a tenor.

  • very nice

    an alto player meself

  • i love your tone, man. what kind of horn is that?

  • it's a "The Martin Alto" from sometime in the 50s. Serial 200*** if you know anything about them (I don't)

  • oh man martins are nice,

i played one in high school

im tryin to buy it from my old director.

  • how long you been playing?

  • ummm since 4th grade so 9 years

  • well you got 4 years on me so i dont feel so bad about my improv skills,

ive been playing since 8th grade.

  • Ohhh...

I'm jelous. I suck at improv. You have such an relaxing and smooth tone in this vid.

    Good job :]

  • seems a playback xD

hope it isn't couse if u would be a great musician :D

  • i'm not sure what you mean. This is me playing, if that's what you're getting at.

  • then u've got a new fan jaja

    just amazing

  • sorry about my english

    from spain..xD

  • no worries - thanks for the compliment

  • bravissima!BRAVISSIMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!BRAVO!!!!!

  • Dude, thats awesome! Im a 13 year old alto player... and i hope one day i'll sound that good!

  • hey im a 5th year player could you send me the notes please

  • ITS IMPROV -_-

  • vary nice im a biggener on the alto

  • so smooth; LOVED it =)

  • hey i play the alto and i need that music plz can u e mail the notes to me tks

  • The scale is just G, Bb, C, C#, D, F, and of course, the G on top. It's built on the G minor pentatonic scale. If you know the pattern, you can build your own BLues scales.

  • ooooo thank u soooo much i really appreciate it

    i will try it

i am 13 playing clarinet for 1 year and sax for 1 going on 2 years and i hope to be as good as u post more vids of u paying tks :)

  • wow awesome sound you got there....you must hear that alot but it's true...me likey ^_^

  • WOW!!! tht was well good. i have played for 5 years now and tht sounded great .... it sounded great :D have u got anymore vids

  • You have a beautiful sound. I play now alto sax for 2,5 years and they say I'm really good. I play 5 solos in our orchestra and some very difficult.

  • Sweeet playing :)

I have been playing alto sax for about.. good 5 years now, I should be better than I currently am, but, so many new teachers its hard to get grips, im only going onto maybe 5th grade :(

NICE jazzz, very flowing, Id say use abit more dynamics :P might be your style of playing, but smooth jazzy swining is what I like :)

  • I would really love to hear you improvise a more conventional blue solo, as you said this one was more jazzy. I'd imagine with your skill you could really nail an improvised solo oriented on a blues scale.

  • Will do. I haven't played sax as much as I'd like recently, but I'm starting to get back into it so the vids should be coming back.

  • Wowa, this is ver inspiring, i LOVE it, sounds greate!

  • what brand alto sax is that?

  • It's a "The Martin Alto" circa 1956

  • Sounds great man. Ive played the tenor for 8 years so i kinda know what i'm talking about. Amazing tone and range and some really great note choices.

  • that whole first chorus was written...

  • If by first chorus you mean the melody, then yes that's true, as the first chorus you hear is simply the song. Or, depending on your experience with this music, you'd call it the head. After that, I go into a blues.

  • Nice, I just started learning how to play about a month ago...haven't learned a whole lot yet. lol I'm in my schools marching band, so I've been focusing more on the marching rather than the playing. =] Nice video.

  • Nice Improv

  • send me the sax invite to please

  • u need some 251 cords that would be awesome!

  • im so much better!

  • Congratulations on your apparent saxophone virtuosity. I must admit, though, that your claim is an easy one to make in the absence of any possible comparison. Of course, that doesn't necessarily make it a lie. Assuming it's true, I would appreciate any constructive criticism you can offer. Otherwise, kindly post only relevant comments. Thank you.

  • thanks man, I sent that invite (dunno if you got it :P)

  • As a matter of fact, all you guys that play sax, hit me up (mail or comment my channel) to join the only saxophone group on youtube.

  • what program did you use to combine the audio and video? nice vid btw and o yea, do you want to join the saxophone group on youtube? ill send you an invite.

  • I just use iMovie - not the fanciest, but it works. And thanks for the offer - i'll definitely take that invite.

  • very nice, i have been palying the alot for about... 6 or so years, and i've been taught just a classical tone... so to hear you, this really makes my day, thanks a ton! u rock!!!

  • eh....for the central district competition for high schools up here in massachusetts, that would just be a good solo. Depending on the judge it could be REALLY good though.....

  • very impressive, i love blues improv, i play an alto myself i am both a beginer and broke so i got a Selmer Prelude

  • The best is the coda at the end, you sort of freer.

I play an old Martin, the martin alto with courious keys for G# C# B Bb, and the Keypads for low B and Bb are on the left side. Keep going, nice tone.

  • I love this music.Improvising is my favorite type of music inthe blues when I play my Alto Sax.

  • amorelli, who do you listen to, jazzwise? probably charlie parker, sonny rollins, (hopefully). to get some more licks and ideas try joe henderson and stan getz. not bad stuff though

  • stan getz and paul desmond are probably my two favorites. I also listen to bird and sonny rollins like you said. I've been getting into a lot of piano jazz lately - i got to brubeck from paul desmond and kenny barron from stan getz's people time album.

  • Very impressive, i play the tenor sax my self but keep it up = )

  • We did the same Bb blues sequence in my jazz class. I like your use of syncopation. You have good technique. What i'm trying to make happen in my solos is a theme. So that It sounds like a song and less like complete improv, i'm trying to come up with cool licks and vary them to make them sound interesting. I think we have similar techniqua and are about at the same level. I play tenor tho. The REAL sax. LOL

  • would love to hear you play mercy mercy mercy.....

I bet you could put a lot of feeling into it

  • If anyone has any requests, just post them. I'm always looking for new tunes and I'd love to know what you'd like to hear.

  • could you do cut 4 from Aerbosold's book "Nothing But the Blues"? I want to hear your take on those chord changes

  • Do you really go up and down the scale when you solo?

  • Very Good, I've been playing saxophone for almost 7 years, any way just to clear something Improvising means he made it up as he played it. And I will have to compliment becasue I know its hard to improvise on one scale without repeating your self over and over, so Congrats you did an awesome job.

  • very good .

how long have you been playing ??

    i wish i coul do this !!

  • Dude, plain and simple, bump what the others said, can u get me the written music to all that u just played, cause I think it was mad crazy....so could u hook me up?

  • I melody (what I play for the first chorus) is from Jamey Aebersold's "Blues in All Keys" book. That's also where I got the backgrounds. The solo is improvised, so I don't have any written music to it.

  • This is not a written solo. It is improvisation over a concert Bb blues. The only written part is the chords, which are basically the general 12 bar blues other than what I explained in the description. Well, and the melody (what I play during the first chorus) is written down too.

  • haha i learned how to play that and its really easy just seems kinda hard. my teacher showed me how to do it. but when u do the drop do u play all of the notes from Bb to E?

  • I must admit I'm a bit confused. I assume you mean your teacher showed you how to improvise over the blues, which I agree is somewhat basic and a good place to start and enjoy yourself while learning more about improvisation. I hope you enjoy it! I know I do. What do you mean "the drop"? I'd be happy to answer your question, but I'm just not quite sure what you mean.

  • im sorry i do not know the correct term but in the beg. when u play all the notes from Bb to E. r u playing all of them like G# and F# because u are supposed to do it chromatically. and yea the blues thingy is what i meant. he showed me how to play Kenny'll make it.

  • you have a really nice tone on that thing!

what setups do you use for alto and tenor?

  • My alto is "The Martin Alto," made by the Martin company in the 50s. Mouthpiece is a remake of the famous Meyer jazz mouthpiece. Vandoran Java reeds, green box, 3.

My tenor is actually my dads, it's a Mark VI Alto. Needs a little work to fix a few leaky pads, but it's still a dream to play. On that I use a Meyer jazz mouthpiece, not sure which, and I don't remember the reeds. It's been a while since I bought them.

  • Your TENOR is a Mark VI ALTO?

  • Sorry. That was a typo. My tenor is a Selmer Mark VI Tenor, my alto is "The Martin Alto," serial 200***
