That would have been helpful when i got my micro mig-15. Ended up moving all electronics even the edf to a bi-plane. Works amazing! Way better than any other jet I've flown. I got 2 videos posted!
some say not to throw them upwards.....so when I bought my first jet I threw it straight....before I could even think of getting my hands on the controller it nosed down to the ground and broke in half.
My first attempt at 1/2 throttle my jet tiped over and crashed, the second attempt useing this stupid method (as if I had not already learned) my jet tipped over and I ended up going from inverted to a belly in hover, good 3d but not good for an edf.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Almost as soon as I hit full throttle out of desperation the jet pulled out of an almost unrecoverable 90 deg nose up hover and instantaniously I had control of the airplane for the first time, USE FULL THROTTLE LAUNCHING EDF`S!!
To anyone else reading, dont do what I did and listen to web forum idiots like this, launch at full throttle with edf jets to get airflow over the surfaces as fast as possible, all launching at 1/4 throttle will do is cause the plane to tip stall as soon as it leaves your hand. Think about it.. How can an edf motor already spinning 100% cause any torque effect?? I cant believe I was stupid enough to actually listen this crap and crash my jet
You should do a video for tips to handlaunch push-pod planes like the WildHawk , Hawk Sky , Clouds Fly (Eeasy Star derivates) because since they have the thrust over the CG, when applyng power it tends to nose down and many people crash instantly because they launch it and go 100% throttle wich push the nose down. Tought the SkySurfer and EZ have the propeller angled up to minimize this effect, the WH, CF and HS have it more straight so they suffer more of this
Also I have asked a bunch of seasoned RC flyers (guys who fly the really big planes at the RC airfields), and when I ask about torque roll they think I am talking about a maneuver used when doing stunts that are done with the larger planes.
And they tell me a whole different answer and how to make your plane use its own torque to roll it. LOL
It took a few crashed planes to figure this out on my own, I wish I had seen this video first!
I was throwing the plane up full throttle using a 2200 KV the plane just rolled around always rolling left! Thats a hint by the way rolling left because of way motor turns!
Another thing that helps is positional motor mount as 2 degrees right angle, like if you plane was a boat and your wanting to turn right, this helped a lot and I dont crash during hand launches anymore.
Thanks for the video. I have only been in RC since Jan 08 and just last week built my first parkjet. All i was doing was crashing on take of because of the torque.
After watching your video I crashed the first time(my mistake) since then I have not crashed on takeoff once.
@sshaugen Throw it as hard as you can at full throttle at about a 30 degree angle then try to maintain level flight to build airspeed then go into a slight turn being careful of not losing speed in your turn and thus stalling. If you have any questions hit me up, I've got a 70mm F/A-18.
Great advice - I wish I'd seen this before I admitted defeat and changed the prop on my Funjet for a fan. Taxis and takeoffs are now no problem but it's not as fast as it was with a prop.. Praps I'll try again Thanks again.
I used to throw the prop jets just as if I was throwing a baseball from 3rd to 1st but aimed at the horizon - motor wide open. That worked maybe 8 out of 10 times.
THEN I SAW A DAVE POWERS VIDEO. Now I emulate Dave and all launches are flyable - most are excellent. Just DO WHAT HE SAYS, try it you'll like it. Way To Go, Dave.
I do it the easy way: full throttle, point the plane 80-90°, let go. That's it...

Us cool kids with twin counter rotating motors don't need to worry about torque roll.

Could you please make a video on how to hand launche with the propeller at the front end of the plane?
I would really appreciate it :)

i click in a bit of right trim and launch at half power i think you get more torque roll at low power
