Muy creativo, pero en realidad "had sung" habia cantado is not the preterite...that's the past perfect tense.

Since I happen to be a filmmaker, it was perfect for me because I have the equipment to do this. You are right. Not many people or schools have the technology to do this but it is rapidly growing!
