Sidenote... A few years back, spent the night at a friends place, and was asked to keep door shut for washroom for when I took shower. I figgured it was privacy issue. Left door open while running the bath, and got a coke. Came back in, found her longhair cat in the bath, attacking the water stream. She looked up at me, all guilty-like and took off. NOT a good thing for leather furniture and wall-to-wall shag carpet. My friend was REALLY pissed with me.

Cats don't need much water to survive (they get most of their liquids from their food) so they have evolved without needing to get used to it. Most cats instinctually 'fear' it because they weren't taught as kittens that it is safe. -That, and the fact that the kitten was probably quite surprised at what had happened...

Does the laughter necessarily imply meanness? I've seen plenty of people laugh at others' mishaps before, but only because 1. the mishap was ironic 2. the mishap caused no injury. Those people didn't laugh out of cruelty, and it seems that the cat's owner didn't either.

I can understand a restrained laugh, like the laughs you hear when people are hurt. Usually they sound more like "ohhhhhh hahahahha ohhhhhh."
