@sooner91 Hey man not sure which one you mean: there's the high pitched noise i make when i strike the strings behind the nut, then there's the Mattias Eklundh style harmonic i strike, immediately followed by flicking the whammy bar to make a 'gargle' or really fast and narrow vibrato noise. Hope that helps brother!
Wow, great sound, I like the solo! You should send this to the band. Maybe they will have you as a guest. They like experimenting. Try the new album (google song Never Again). Probably they would like this.
I have a Parker Nitefly Mojo, but I've got some trouble by tuning to low tunings. For example, if I want to play Drop D, my 6th string becomes too loose, which screws up the intonation. I'm using 10-46 string gauge.
So... just wanted to ask you, what's the gauge of your 6th string? maybe 52?
@tooneken I'm using a set of D'addario guage 11's so the 6th string will be a .049 bro. Its tuned to drop C in the vid. The strings are still abit slack as you say but the upside is that vibrato is alot easier so you can do those dramatic pinch harmonic squeels that KsE are so known for. Not that i'm very good at them... Hope that helps.
No problem with vibrato, I'm used to play with moderate string tension. I tune my guitar to E standard with 10-46. The problem of loose 6th string at Drop D, is the intonation in the 1st-5th frets. For example, if I play the 2nd fret, which would be a low E, it sounds like +30 cents towards F. To avoid this (but not at all), I have to press less the string, which is annoying with certain chords. That's why I wanna try 52 in the 6th string.
@lalidado My pleasure bro, all i'd add is that the world has enough Fenders and Gibsons around already so i'd certainly encourage you to go for a less popular instrument like the Parker. One thing to consider strongly is the physical weight of a Les Paul compared to Fly - they really are at opposite ends of the spectrum in those terms.
@Wolfie2214 thanks bro! No offence intended with the casual genre reference, truth be told i don't know what the fuck half these bands should be referred to as lol.
@macaframa12 Really? i thought the squeals were the weakest part compared to other people's covers. I practice soloing type stuff alot but don't spend much time on heavy metal style rhythm - hence it sounds lame by comparison.
@yhonmontes Thankyou! To get the metal sound from the GE7 you need to cut the mids and boost the bass and treble so the sliders are arranged in the shape of a 'smile'.
ok I know that's a parker fly but which one? what amp? I'm a very dedicated metalcore fan, even though I'm in a deathcore band, and I want to see you play more killswitch.
@snazygitrst Hey man, its a 1995 Fly Deluxe. The amp is a Peavey JSX Joe Satriani signature head and Triple XXX 4x12 angle cab. I'm using the 'ultra' channel on the head throughout and i've got a Boss GE7 which i use to switch between the scooped heavy metal rythm sound and the lead sound for the solo, which is just the amp sound with no effects.
Thanks bro, yeah the pinch harmonic squeals really let it down don't they and after watching other people's vids i don't think i learnt a very accurate tab. I like your stereo guitar thing you've got goin on in your version - and your pinch harmonics sound spot on!
+6, -4, -9, -14, -10, +4, +12. I fine tuned it to my taste over several weeks but to be fair, it sounded meaty enough when i first started with a simple, smile shaped curve across the settings.
Yeah, i keep my JSX dialled for leads and less heavy rythms with its own controls and only bring the GE-7 in to scoop out for metal sounds - it saves me from ever having to twiddle the EQ pots on the amp which is a real bonus.
thankyou! The tremelo is a bit hit and miss with its tuning stability. Sometimes it holds tuning, sometimes not. I'm using guage 11 strings in this video and the thickest string tends to get a bit caught in the nut and often goes sharp. Its not as bad on guage 9's. My Ibanez guitars never go out of tune though and were alot cheaper too!
Thanks bro, i've got a few other vids up which feature some fiddly guitar stuff if you're interested? If its more METAL you're after then i shall see what i can do!
How the flying parker did you do that squeal at 2:05? That was flippen sweet!

you play the solos and squeels so good, but the riffs so shitty, how does that work

congrats, great demonstration, but how does the GE7 specifically help you get that particular sound?
