made this for a superbowl party and it was so good!! it was gone within a few minutes! :) the only change i made was adding breadcrumbs to give it a thicker crust.
@Nidene123 Yes, you can put the coating on, then spray a baking pan, place the chicken pieces and spray the top also (with cooking oil spray). Bake 350 degrees (F) about 20 minutes or until brown and obviously done.
o that looks more like "chick fil a" chicken than KFC. but thats not bad b,c their chicken is so good! suprised to see ur only used flour but it looks so good i have to try it! think i might add just a little sugar b,c for some random reason that sounds good even though i dont like sweet :/
@massboss93 For more crispy popcorn chicken, dip each piece in flour, then beaten egg, then your mixture of herbs and spices and finally into fine breadcrumbs. Fry, and you will have all the flavor, plus all of the crispiness!
@tvsk164 I did a previous video where I visited the original KFC, called Sander's Cafe in Corbin KY. They have a small museum and sell souvenirs, and that's where I got the shirt. I wore it, because I was making what I ordered at KFC, the popcorn chicken.
Hello there Betty, lovely recipe indeed!! Its makin my tummy all growling already... Just a quick question, you know you mentioned later in the video about putting bigger pieces in the oven. I was wondering if I could entirely roast these chicken pieces instead of frying them in the skillet? But if its in the oven I was wondering how would I make the spices and the flour coating stick? Thanks in advance Betty, cheers & Happy Easter!! :)
@taryn4080 you can dip the pieces of chicken in melted butter and then into the spices before baking them in the oven. If you want some coating, mix the spices with fine breadcrumbs or crushed Ritz cracker crumbs. I hope you have a Happy Easter!
wow... thanks for the ingredients recipe... kfc used to be a nice sunday place after the beach... they also offered fried shrimp orders... now adaze, the food is quite yucky/kept in oven... not freshly made... mexene is the best...

I've always thought "If you want KFC, then go to KFC", & this is why! My boy (14) & I get the hankerin for KFC popcorn chicken frequently. So, we made your recipe (to specs) & I must say, we have elected to make make this recipe over KFC's for over a year now. It's probably saved me $500:). Excellent & Koodo's!
Hey Betty, I wanted to ask , can I not use those spices? I really love your recipes like the red velvet cake , i'm gonna do it for my birthday on march 20th.I'm also gonna do the hot wings for my sister's party.Greetings from Malaysia. Louise Carmen =] Louise
@Louise4251 Thanks for your sweet comment! You may use any or all of the spices in this recipe. If you don't have them all, it won't make a lot of difference if you leave some of them out.
Hey Betty, I dont know where to find all of these spices so do you have any suggestions as to what else i can use? I really want to make this because i like KFC, but obviously this is a much better and healthier option! :) I love your videos and your a great inspiration to people who like to experiment with cooking and different recipes!! Your amazing! Greetings from Bristol, England!
@Chunksterrrable Hi Toby! If you can find some of the spices, that will probably be enough for you to really like the flavor. Also, if you only use flour or other light breading, it is much healthier for you!
Thankyou so much, I cant believe you replied to me! I feel like im talking to a celebrity or something! :D I will definately hunt down as many of the spices as possible as i am dying to mke this! :) I have made a few of your recipes before and i have to say me and my family were very impressed with them! The chocolate fudge was definately a big hit, especially with my nan! Thankyou again :) Toby
If I'm completely honest, all of the KFC I have eaten seems to only contain a lot of salt MSG etc. I'm not sure if its because they only use a little of each spice, but I can't taste all of these 11 spices. Home made KFC for the win!
I guess the flour is standar flour, Have you tried corn flour, that what it is called here in England.. It gives a nice crunch and prevents the chicken from burning and drying out. Great shows I ALWAYS look out for you..
I did make the coating once with salt, pepper and msg and the coating tasted identical to kfc, but the meat itself just tasted like plain chicken, so I wonder if the 11 spices & herbs they refer to are the things they use in the marinade for the chicken. Try it. Salt, pepper and msg makes an identical tasting coating. But then you bit into the meat and it's just blah chicken meat.
hi betty great video but every time i try this the flour comes off the chicken and forms into a big mess at the bottom of the pan and the chicken ends up with no coating what am i doing wrong ?
@mcpartridgeboy It sounds like the oil isn't hot enough when you put the coated chicken in. It should sizzle and immediately seal the coating to the chicken.
@love2hatedrugs I will give this some thought; I do have several dipping sauces in bettyskitchen already--like sweet and sour, blue cheese, Russian dressing, Caesar salad dressing, etc. But honey mustard sounds interesting!
Years ago I was given a recipe card by a friend that was for "knock off KFC chicken". It called for one packet of dry Italian salad dressing mix to be added to the flour coating I never tried it as I was afraid my family wouldn't like it. I think I might give it a try now It seems easier than accumulating 11 different spices
Miss Betty, I want to thank you first of all, for what you do. You have given my family, and so many others, the ability to cook good quality food at home! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I also want to say thank you to your camera man! Now for the question . I have noticed most of your list of ingredients say 1tsp, but in the video you say 1/2 tsp. PLEASE understand, I'm not trying to be nitpicky... just trying to do it right. Thanks again for what you and the hubby do!
@rasor64 I think I recall that I did not want to have a lot of the spice mixture left over, so I only made 1/2 of the recipe, but I wrote up the whole actual recipe. That's why *everything* is 1/2 as much. So, you can follow the video or follow the recipe write-up. Thanks for your lovely comment!
@rasor64 I made the recipe smaller, so that Rick and I wouldn't have too much chicken to eat, but I wrote up the full-sized recipe, because I thought most people would use more than the two of us would. You can use either set--the video to make a small amount or the written recipe to make more! It's the same recipe, just in different amounts.

I thought you were supposed to put the spices in the flour and then dip the chicken in the flower and then some egg wash.

@badcat1324 I made a lighter variety, but it would be more like KFC if you dip it in egg wash and then spiced flour.

my vegetable oil gets blackened when i put in the flour coated chicken
why??

@monimstarfox If the flour is burning, your vegetable oil is not deep enough.
